- In this video, How to Light a Gas Grill that Won't Ignite, home renovation brothers Dave and Rich show you 4 solutions to this problem.
1) First, check the burners to see if they are clogged. Insects, especially spiders, can build nests all through them. Also, debris and grill food can block the holes. You can clean them out with a toothpick which will restore the gas flow.
2) If your grill has a battery operated igniter, replace the battery and see if that is the problem. My Char-broil igniter stopped working. I replaced the battery and all is well. One of the easiest DIY repairs ever!
3) Make sure the connections to the battery are clean, that nothing is interfering. If you have replaced the battery and cleaned the connections and the igniter still isn't working, replace the igniter.

4) In none of that works, you can light the grill manually with a match or a long lighter. Char-broil grills have a cool match holder feature. This is a metal holder on a chain on the side of the grill. Open the grill. Put a match in the holder. Light the match. Turn on the burner closest to the hole by the match holder. Insert the match holder through the hole and toward the burner. The burner should then light.

Here are a couple of tips that make assembly slightly easier ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . 1) One person can assemble, but if you have a buddy to help, it will make it go faster - especially steps 1-3 and 8 (the legs aren't heavy but can be difficult to hold while screwing things in). Step 8, 1st part will take some time unless you have two more hands OR are really lucky. 2) Use a socket wrench! 3) Step 7, 3rd part - the flame carry over tube has an open side, MAKE SURE THE OPEN SIDE IS FACING THE FRONT. If it's facing the back, the tube won't work. 4) Step 10, 3rd part - if you don't have small hands (I don't, they're gigantic) getting the nut on is really difficult (but not impossible). It took me about 4 hours to assemble, but I took a "union break" every 60-90 minutes and ate a quick lunch. Also, I'm really OCD so I took my time, looked at the instructions carefully, and cleaned up as I went.

Video was awesome. When you lit the one up with the long lighter. Do you have to do that for the other burners to turn on as well?
No, once that first burner is lit, turn on the "adjacent burner" and it will self ignite. Continue this for the two other burners.

I just bought my Weber Spirit with 3 burners and the first time using this worked (I’ve only used it once) but just now I followed instructions to turn gas on, turned burner knob to ignite and pushed the ignition button and nothing. I could hear the clicking but couldn’t smell the gas and no flames. I changed the battery, nothing again but clicking and no gas smell so finally I tried undoing the gas connection and then connecting again and suddenly everything worked. Bizarre
My igniter is not even making the clicking sound when I press the button. Is this a sign I may need to replace the igniter? I’ll have to look and see if it has a battery but I don’t know if it does. I replaced the propane tank maybe spring or early summer so I know it’s not empty yet.

What is wrong if 1st burner lights but. Next three light an go out right away.
The 2nd burner from the left for some reason won't light and stay lit. All other burners work fine. I did the first step here and cleaned each burner hole. Any idea?

Maybe take that burner out and look into it and see if there are any clogs/ spider webs etc. Maybe swap burners and that way you can see if it’s the burner or the input.

My grill is brand new and won’t ignite. No spark or anything when button is pushed. First thing I thought of was to replace the battery. Still nothing. Is this normal on a BRAND NEW GRILL??

Have you looked at the bottom of the grill - maybe it is different for different grills,
See if you can look up you exact model online for a user manual. Seems like a manual way to light the grill would be basic to most grills.
Charbroils also gone with a metal “match holder” to reach into the grill ( from the top?) .

I think my mine might be the first one because I don't smell the gas
No point in going thru the hole. Simply open up the grill and light each burner manually with a long grill lighter as you would with a charcoal grill. I do this for now with my grill until I get around to replacing the ignitor. But good video.

Why not just use the bbq lighter from the top instead of trying to maneuver it through the small light hole.
