Wow, everytime I watch one of your videos I'm amazed at how close to Kurts sound and how he plays you are. I used to back in the day, and still do from time to time play Nirvana on my guitar but you really have captured him probably better than anyone I've ever heard before.
In this sound comparison i thought the joyo and the Sansamp sounded the closest, but at times I actually liked the Joyo better just because I found the Sansamp to have a little bit too much low end. However I'm mostly comparing it to the studio album. I trust that you have the in utero tour sound right down to a science.
This comment made my day, I can't thank you enough for those kind words 🙏 I learned my first songs from watching Nirvana concerts, and thought it was fun to try to recreate Kurt's little nuances. So for better or worse, his playing style became ingrained into my own while I was learning haha!
The Sansamp Classic is my favorite overall, but the Joyo surprised me and comes in a close second. I am tempted to reserve the Sansamp for Kurt tones and then use the Joyo for my band and own writing.
Guitar in behringer and Amp is so Bad ,the guy Play with Computer .the sound is realy God but with Amp and Behringer no way .Behringer is Bullshit sorry my thinking
@@sukiakazuki1281 If my memory serves me correctly, I don't believe I liked the Behringer either
Wow i think the Behringer is actually my favourite of those. It just sounds really nice. And you really can't go wrong at that price.
I know right?? I wasn't expecting much out of it but I was surprised by how well it holds up against the other 3. Definitely a lot of tone for the money
theyre known for copying pedals almost 1:1. their discontinued distortion pedal DM100 was literally a RAT pedal 1:1
it's on sale at Sweetwater for like 20 bucks, I just ordered one yesterday
I use behringers for most of my stuff. They're super good and affordable!
@@davidjameschamberlain hell yeah we literally did the same thing. Super cheap right? I wonder how the chorus pedal holds up to the small clone.
the behringer is the best imo. it perfectly outlines the slides on drain you, it has that in utero-esque fuzziness while still remaining out of beeswarm territory, it sounds great!
The behringer is definitely great, love your analysis of it!
Agreed for Drain You but I liked the Joyo for the in Utereo tone.
Id love to see this with alternatives for the EchoFlanger/PolyChorus one day!
For sure! Would love to see that info in a video.
devilfish pedal has echo/delay and chorus in 1 pedal
Fender Hammertone Delay
The Joyo seems to get a fuzz breakup and flat tone that's very close to the Sansamp Classic, and is in my opinion the closest replication. Thanks for this!
I play in a Nirvana tribute band and went with the Joyo American Sound to get these tones, and I could say it's an amazing pedal; I took out my other distortions off my pedalboard because it's extremily versatile that can get a lot of tones with the Mids and Voice knob. To anyone that reads this comment, I highly recommend get this pedal instead of the other ones because to my ears, is the one that gets closer to the SansAmp Classic tone (even better than the SansAmp GT2), and its price and versatility is a clear advantage.
Just ordered one. Thank you.
The Behringer has that fizzy tone of Nevermind's multiple guitar tracks. OG Sansamp Classic has the broken speaker tone. The Joyo has an immediacy and nails a nice in Utero tone.
Happy 31st anniversary to nevermind
Yes! Happy 31st to the album that changed everything 💵👶🏻🌊
Yes
it's my 18th today
This video is amazing. Thank you so much for putting it together. Joyo is a decent brand and I've been very happy with other pedals I've got from them. But I think I'm gonna go with the Sansamp Classic just for the overall versatility of the pedal itself. Can't what to see what videos you've got coming up!
Thank you for making this video! I felt like someone had to review that joyo and behringer pedal for nirvana tones, they sound great, great comparison!
Thank you for watching! I wasn't aware of the Joyo until recently, it's my favorite of the more affordable sansamp clones!
Extremely impressed with the Behringer! My favourite tone and at that price!! Keep the awesome videos coming!
I agree with you, the Behringer sounds really great and at that price it's a steal! Thank you 😊
wow dude thank you so much for this. keep it up!! i liked the blue one
Thank you for watching!! 😃
Thanks for making this vid! I bit the bullet and bought a DS-2 and a TM300 last night haha
Wow, Behringer is my favorite. It sounds the closest and best live. I can see situations where each pedal shines for different parts though. Reall good demo! Thanks
bruh the background music is a bop. your taste is amazing, grunge, and some heavy prog metalcore? awesome bro
Thanks for these pedal alternative showcases! Would be interesting to see one done for the PolyChorus as those go for quite a bit as well.
I went with the Joyo American Sound as I liked how close it sounded to the SansAmp Classic, and at only $40, it will get me close enough as a novice to guitar and guitar tone.
Omg I needed this video thank you so much🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
You're very welcome, I hope it is helpful! Thanks for watching 😃
I like all of these, I’d really have to hear these in the mix to decide
Excellent video! Your channel is amazing, been a long fan (;
Dude could you please do a tone episode on “I hate myself”? It’s one of Kurts more brutal tones and I’ve found it really hard to replicate. Great videos dude.
very cool video!!! Helped me with the Beringer tone. Please make a video comparing choruses) It's gonna be very cool)
Thank you so much for this video. Just bought the behringer one 😅
Excellent video man. Love your windows that shows settings ect.
After the SansAmp Classic my personal choice would be the Joyo!! I think it did a fantastic job and sounded far better than the Behringer AND GT2
Oh new pedals congratulations on your new purchase!
It's all for the channel 😉
Happy 13k Congrats
Thank you so much 😀
Damn!! Sweet tone!!
Thanks! Can't take credit for it though, this is Kurt's best tone imo 😉
Joyo is the winner for me. Powerful, fuzzy sound.
I absolutely love this video since now I found alternatives rather than expensive stuff and I was wondering if you could also one day make a video for bleach and nevermind tones?
Would be cool to see these distortions compared to the DS-1 and/or DS-2 since he used those at times also
gracias por este video excelente
Wow the Behringer steals the show. I just ordered one !
Literally just got a Behringer TM300, it sounds so good
I'm doing a grunge fiction series while I'm on a tight budget. I really needed this video to figure out what pedal I could afford. I think I am deciding on the Behringer TM300. Thanks, Eric! :)
That behringer is surprisingly nice!
Finally you uploaded hahahahaha I've been waiting I thought you upload Fridays not Saturdays my bad
I do usually upload Fridays, but had my hands full this week with my newborn and 2 year old 😅 sorry for the delay!
YEAH I LOVE THE TONES AND GEAR
Me too Brain 😎
Do the dive tone next
I just purchased the behringer thanks to this video
You made a great purchase!! A lot of tone for the money
Thanks for this video. I own a 90’s SansAmp Classic and I was curious to hear your comparison, in my opinion the American Sound is the closest! Thank you again for sharing🙏🏻
Thank you for watching and for the support! I agree with you, I think the Joyo is the one that comes closest to the Sansamp Classic
@@NirvanaGuitars 💪🏻🙌🏻
Glad behringer pedals finally getting the love they deserve, people always think the becuase they’re cheap and plastic they suck but in so many cases they’re just as good if not better then the competition
So around 2018, I bought the Behringer. It heard it was a pretty spot on clone of the SansAmp G2. At the time the original Tech 21 pedal was out of production, and insanely expensive used, so I got the Behringer. It nails the sound of “In Utero”, especially the live tones.
Really happy that I got to help in the process of making this video your fucking amazing man
I meant to give you a shoutout when showing the Joyo and I am so mad at myself rn for slipping up on that 😭 Can't thank you enough for introducing me to that pedal! I really love it, I'm thinking about reserving the Sansamp Classic for Kurt tones and using the Joyo for my band and own writing
Sick!
Thank you!
Behringer! is sick hey, 30 bucks, Kurt would be happy with that! might have to get that one. Thanks for your demo
The Behringer sounds great
For £22 pounds in the uk might have to purchase
Love the channel by the way !👍🏻big nirvana fan keep it up !🎸
It's definitely a steal at that price! Thank you so much 😊 I like Nirvana too 😉
Quick comment about the TM300: it's basically Behringer's clone of the Sansamp GT2 (which I'm assuming you knew, but I don't recall you mentioning it in the video). However, according to a comment I found and quoted below, there is one important distinction between the two. The quote below was taken from a video comparing the TM300 to the GT2. I'm thinking this might be partly responsible for why the two pedals sound so different in your video (and why the TM300 sounds so much better than the GT2 here). I don't have either pedal to confirm, but thought it might be worth messing around with if you were so inclined.
"The center point for the tone controls on the GT2 is where the little arrows are, not at 12:00 like it is for the TM300. "
This is awesome! you should do one where you compare different alternative to the poly chorus next. keep up the good work!
Great suggestion! I'm not familiar with any Polychorus clones but am definitely going to research that now
@@NirvanaGuitars I mean since you did the Behringer TM300 in this video, the FX600 i think has some of the features that the Polychorus has maybe start from there?
@@itstcj thanks for the lead! Looking that up right now 👀
Here is one I built. (Dandy Horse).
Skip the video a little to get to some Nirvana sounds: ruclips.net/video/SEmdyqh5xpI/видео.html
Our lord has done it again , cheers buddy , from Alberta Canada 🍁
😂 😂 😂 I'm just an obsessed fan making content for fellow obsessives!
Gt-2 is awesome you just had to set it with less brightness, its tone is pretty similar to the SansAmp classic. In the other hand, I got really impressed by the TM300 such a nice pedal (and cheaper) Awesome vid! ❤
I think the Behringer has a great Nevermind Studio tone
The Joyo has a great Nevermind Live DS-2 sound
The Tech21 GT2 I think was just too bright
And the SansAmp Classic nailed the In Utero tone of course haha
Love the breakdown!
That SansAmpClassic sounds like tinny ass. ....and that Behringer f'n SLAPS!!! Gonna grab myself a TM300 after watching this vid. Thanks!
Thanks to you, i have my first pedal, de Behringer, i wanted a economic pedal that was like te ds 2 or Sans Amp, Thank you!!!
I saw Kurt inside you ! thanks man ! love this video.. love skystang and the pedal.. and love heart shaped box !
Behringer really really rocks :O
Loved the video man, I really enjoy listening these comparations. Btw, I love the old sansamp sound, It has a lot of low end and that fuzzy greasy sound, and I think that is kinda difficult to nail that sound without one. In my opinion, the joyo is the only one that can try to nail that tone. Love your videos man, peace.
I've got the tube amp modeler and it can get pretty close. First time I hit the distortion part of Heart Shaped Box on it, I blushed, haha.
I totally get that! The behringer really surprised me, a lot of tone for the money
I closed my eyes for a few moments, repeated the video many times and came to the conclusion that it was for my ears and without any type of judgment by the brand. The Behringer for me was the best of all!!!!! I was surprised and the best part is that it only cost 30 dollars haha
I like the Sansamp GT2 and the Joyo American the best.
In some examples I prefer one over the other, each one sounds pretty great
I'm actually impressed with the Behringer TM-300
The tube amp modeler seems to add a little extra low-mid to it and has a little extra boom to it but the saturation on the distortion seems in line with the two sans amps. The joyo hits the tonal range better but has a little less saturation in the distortion. They all sound great. And really, if you're looking to be a creator, sometimes it's better to be close but a little off because you'll wind up creating your own sound that keeps the spirit of what you were going for. After all, inspiration is just mimicry with some wrinkles.
really well put!
The Behringer TM300 is a smaller version of the older Behringer GD21, which is a direct copy of the Sansamp GT2 and even has the same button/knob layout. I have both and use them when I play with headphones in my living room at night and sometimes even on recordings.
Ordered a Behringer becuz of this :)
Nice!! Enjoy your new pedal 😃
Joyo sounds amazing
I got a Behringer GDI21, it’s similar to the TM 300, a pretty good alternative for getting the In Utero tone if you can’t afford a sansamp pedal
The Behringer sounds really good
You should listen to Butterfinger (Malaysian Grunge Band) and maybe do some cover from them:) btw nice video tone review really appreciated👍
Damn…the TM300 is the obvious choice…very close to the Classic Tech 21 and for $30? Insane!
Nah man the tm300 sounds more like a boss ds2 or something for the nevermind era if ur going for in utero go for the Joyo only £10 increase
I think the American sound by JOYO sounds the closest to the sansamp classic however I really like the tone the GT2 gives. While the GT2 isnt that close to the live performances, I think its pretty close to their studio tone.
I love that gt2.
Could you do a tone demo on the smart studio sessions? I really like tone on here she comes now
*PERSONAL OPINION:*
Behringer sounds great, kinda bright like an Boss pedal
Joyo one sounds slightly darker
yet the classic SansAmp sounds a bit oversaturated
BTW it would be interesting knowing if there's any PolyChorus alternatives as well, here those MFs are like $1M Colombian pesos lmao
Amazing video as always mate
not sure if you made any alternative purchases, but EHX has made reissues of the echoflange and polychorus that are significantly less expensive than a vintage analogue one. they have very similar circuits, with the only (more convenient) difference being a center negative polarity power input, as opposed to the obnoxious center positive inputs old pedals had lol.
Great video. I owned the Sansamp Classic and loved it but i broke it. Now i got the GT2 but i am not really happy with my Nirvana tone. In which position are the switches? Thanks and keep those awesome videos coming. You really set a new standard. Love from Austria
@@niniomigrania_was talking about the GT2
@@niniomigrania_ i dont regret it but i liked the classic a lot more.
The TM300 is so sick for its price.
10:23 is absolute gold lmao
wow.. so surprising! The GT2 and the Behringer sounded the best and out of the 2 I preferred the behringer. the GT2 sounded a little more kurt though
can you do a tone video on return of the rat? i feel like more people need to hear this song
I bought the Beringer from Sweetwater after this video. 22 dollars. What a steal.
Sans Amp GT2 hands down best Nirvana sound. TM 300 wasn't bad and was close. Joyo sounded good but was to flat in my opinion and the Sans amp classic was just not as vibrant as the GT2 in my humble opinion. Great video and presentation! Love the amp setting knobs shown as well. Great guitar work! Thank you!
Thank you very much for this video, I wanted to ask this question, is there an alternative to the polychorus pedal?
For Smells like Teen Spirit, Kurt used a boss distortion pedal. Even while on the in Utero tour. That's what I've heard.
I have the American sound and I've used it for its intended purpose and couldn't be happier with how it sounds. I have a keyboard amp so I definitely needed an amp sim
I wasn't aware of the Joyo until recently, that one is my favorite of the 3 Sansamp Classic alternatives!
@@NirvanaGuitars for 40 dollars it is insane what you can get out of it. After seeing this video I might stop using my crappy 20 dollar distortion pedal and just use this thing
Okay, so I think i’d like to share my observations.
Have 3/4 out of these - except sansamp classic.
First of all - gt2. Quality, versatility and overall an amazing pedal. Yes, you can easily dial 93’-94’ tour sounds but for me the most important thing is that gt2 can deliver much much more. For example, I play more of a industrial music so my focus is - highs and less mids. An opposite sound from in utero tour. But that’a the point - it’s so damn versatile that you can dwelve basically into anything. + the build quality, footswitch is amazing. Absolutely a go to for me.
Ok, so further - tm300. Many said that this pedal is a copy of gt2. From my experience - I’d use a term “a take on gt2”. Yes, the outlet looks like a gt2 but here’s the thing - it doesnt sound like gt2. very bland tones, has a lot of muddy overtones, really noisy, build quality is just… everytime you step on it looks like it won’t take the pressure. Has many flaws but the price is good. If u want a cheapest alternative - this is an option.
But a better option is american sound. Got mine for like 20 euros slightly used. Now this is a bargain. And a true alternative for a sansamp classic. Has that fuzzy fizziness around, very very mid-rangy and lacks clear highs. The build quality is also not comparable with tm300. It’s the same size as gt2.
So, overall - my fav is gt2 for its versatility and quality.
If you’ll look for in utero tour tone - american sound. A couple of minutes and you’re there. Or just go with the classic.
Tm300 - shame but I suggest to avoid it.
Would the tube amp modeler be closer to distortion or overdrive? Because for Lounge Act I wanna know if I should get an overdrive and the modeler, or the modeler and distortion. Thanks!
This is the best day of the year, my birthday and Nevermind’s birthday
Happy birthday!! 🎉 🎈
Thanks
Where do you have the bottom 3 switches set on the TM-300? Definitely sold me on it but it's hard to see where the switches r set at.
The joyo american classic sounded closest to the sansamp classic imo.
the behringer sounded almost closer to a DS-1 or DS-2
10:24 😂😂😂 i was not expecting that
That’s Chad!
ca ca co co coo coo, that’s čhãd 👹
The Behringer is a clone of the sandamp GT2, so I'd also check use cases for that if you are keen. For the price, it's well worth it. , ( It kills on the In Utero Tour Tone ) But can also do the DS1 and DS2 quite well .
In my opinion, the Joyo American Sound killed it. IT PERFECTLY REMADE RADIO FRIENDLY UNIT SHIFTER.
joyo ftw
My ranking: 1.) Joyo 2.) Sansamp classic 3.) Behringer 4.) Sansamp GT2
Cheap doesn’t always mean it’s bad quality!
Great rating! Mine would be the same but the first two switched 😉
Have you considered trying the same settings for the gt2 and the Behringer it might achieve a better result from it. You have the Behringer on hi gain but the Gt2 on hot
gt2 is my favorite!
Can i get the in utero tone with a Boss DS-1???
How much money would a squier version of the sky stang 1 cost, and how much money would it cost to mod to the sky stang?
The three band eq sans amp is by far the best
Awesome video as usual!!! Have you gotten rid of the scammer yet?
Thank you! As of now, nope 🙄 I'm still blocking accounts they make here on RUclips, they're still mass spam commenting every now and then
@@NirvanaGuitars oh that sucks hope you get him soon!
bro make a video talking about cheap pedals that imitate the POLY CHORUS EHX
Hey, what happens if you turn up the treble on the Joyo American? I noticed it sounded a bit more muted than the others, less of the high end fizz - but the treble is also turned down quite low.
Like others, I think the Behringer does a great job. Also possible that the Joyo British Sound might be a good fit, given that it's emulating a high gain Marshall sound.
It gets a little fuzzier and starts to sound more like the GT2 but doesn't really loose any of it's definition in low mids. I probably should've given it more high end, I just personally prefer low end heavy distorted tones so I think I unconsciously gravitated towards those settings haha! I also felt like those settings got really close to Kurt's Sansamp Classic sound
