Once a 'Swinger' always a "Swinger"
Enjoy the next leg of your trip Vince.
Once a swinger until you get too old! See you next time Nobby!
Great video dad! Loved going along with you and hearing your funny comments! I enjoyed the teeth chattering the most 😂.. I’ll look forward to the next one.. well done! X
Thanks Clare, glad you enjoyed it! I look forward to seeing you soon love Dad x
Please don't worry about the swing bridge stopping traffic. I regularly drive a route that includes a level crossing and it's down and stopping traffic regularly - often traffic has to wait 10 minutes or more. But it's possible to avoid - anyone choosing that route would know the risk of being made to wait (or blindly following their sat-nav - which is a lack of awareness on their part). Lovely video - thank you :-)
Cheers for the info. Hazel. Hope to see you on the next one!
The Mexican/Aztec joke made me spit my rice pudding out. My kind of humour through this video 😂👍
I am a silly old sod sometimes Joe!
Good solid down-to-earth stuff. I can't imagine you ever becoming pompous.
If I do get a bit pompous, please let me know!
I hope that you wont change your way of boating you give a relaxed style that you always have from day 1. I am very envious Vince and your family so good keep well
Thanks Peter! It's not in my nature to be false, so if you ever see me getting too big for my boots, please let me know!
Nice vlog, thanks Vince, it’s a great little pub next to the canal and fun watching the swing bridge in action. We love your channel as you keep it real and make us smile x
Cheers Sally, really glad you like the channel x
Good Onya Vince, love and look forward to each new episode.
Glad you enjoy them Mr Goodwrench!
The comment “ I’ve seen more fat on a greasy chip” on the river Stort got me interested, and I’m catching up, thanks
Wish I could say that about me John haha!
I don't think you would ever be pompous Vince. Another great video. My wife and I are hooked. I love your free and easy style of presenting too. More power to you mate!
I try not to be Greg! I'm really glad that you are both enjoying them!
Don't be so hard on yourself. You're still learning. I think you are doing great. Love your commentary.
Thanks Sandy glad you like all the old chat haha!
Great video Vince, you have an excellent outlook on life, keep going and continue to enjoy boating.
Cheers Robert I will.
Great job Vince. You would think the person in the panel truck would have offered to help so he could move on sooner. He’s probably paid by the hour! Thanks again for sharing your adventure
Thanks for that! Yes, I reckon he enjoyed the little break!

I'm glad about that Dot!

Lets hope those who get irate at having to wait a few minutes at a canal swing bridge never get caught at Tower Bridge, can't image what they would have done at the old Isle of Sheppey Kingsferry bridge before the new road bridge was built.
I really enjoy your refreshing down to earth vlogs. No sign of pomposity on your part Vince.
I remember Kingsferry Bridge, when we used to go to Leysdown when I was a kid!
Thank for another lovey trip Vince.
My pleasure!
Well done Vince with the swing bridge . Looks like a lot of work mate. You stay as you are. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers Thomas! If I don't, make sure you let me know!
What is it about you and people on your roof Vince?🤣 I can see someone is gonna get in trouble with you soon!🥊🤣 Nice looking area, enjoy the mooring!
People are strange Jeff! Hopefully a nice peaceful mooring this time!
Keep them coming Vince, just love ur Vlogs with that cutting edge humour of yours. Great stuff.

Cheers Gerry, glad you are enjoying them!
Lovely cruise. Love your honesty along the way. Brilliant.
Thanks I appreciate that!
Love these vlogs Vince, you tell it as it is.. Good, sad, idiot's along the way all mixed with a good sense of humour.. Keep them coming. X
Thanks Kath, I appreciate the nice comment! x
30 years ago that swing Bridge was notorious as it wasn't motorised and was really heavy to shift. If you were single handed the traffic was stopped for 30 minutes. Such is life. 😂
It's interesting to hear your memories of how the places that I'm going through have changed. Thanks for commenting! If you have any more, let me know!
Cheers Vince, great viewing during another Aussie lockdown.
Thanks Dave! Not more lockdowns!
A whole year wow time flys you have done well. Keep the tips coming and the jokes!
Time does fly, so we mustn't let the grass grow under our feet! See you next time!
You know, if the drivers were sitting in their cars waiting and complaining they could have closed the bridge behind you couldn't they, or do you have the key to the bridge? Love the scenery their at this mooring spot. Thanks for sharing your first swing bridge cruise with us. Will your Mom be coming aboard soon for another cruise before the weather gets too cold? That would be nice...you could moor up somewhere, fix some tea and we could fix some tea as well, and visit with your Mom. Have a Blessed day.
Hello Margaret, yes you need a key to operate the bridge! It is very nice around this mooring. I promise that next time my mum stays on the boat I will introduce her to everyone! hope to see you on the next one.
Another great video I think you make it look very easy and your naturally calm which helps
Cheers Stuart! I am quite calm (most of the time)
Well done Vince on your first swing bridge. Sorry I wasn`t there to help you (not that I would have been much help) haha! I agree with you, so cold today and you made me laugh so much when you stated your teeth were chattering!! Take care and keep them coming. xxx

I finally caught up to your latest video. I enjoy your brief history lessons and the natural sounds of what you hear on the canal. Unfortunately there's only one working canal in the US so I have to settle with camping in my pop-up. Thanks!
Glad you enjoy the vlogs Barbara. Camping is fun too!
As usual, great video Vince, very enjoyable. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it Mike!
Your a brave man I think that it would get to me and I would start mucking thinking up
I'm quite level headed, I don't always get things right, but I don't panic much Jason!
I’ve personally never done a Swingbridge but looking at it, i think i’d run the boat up to the bridge, open it whilst holding the bow line, pop the boat through the gap, just enough to clear the swing than close it, stepping straight back onboard. I won’t know how that works until i try it.
I actually love doing locks, i’ve tried to get in on the keeper game with CRT having done Thames lock keeping.
That guy in the last video’s comments knockin you for removing your centre line, he was right up his own backside 😄
That idea with the swingbridge could be a good one! Yes I know what you mean some people have a high opinion of themselves. See you next time Vin!
Great vlog Vince, I always look forward to them and I'm interested to see how far North you are going. I remember chatting to a boater who's permanent mooring was at Berkhamstead and he said it was impossible to get anywhere in a weekend as there were so many locks both ways.
Cheers Glynn! This is definitely not the place to be if you want to cruise for a distance!
We both have a day off,,,,it is a cold autumnal day here and we are binging on videos of your journey! So relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you from Japan,,,,Oh, by the way,,,,my Japanese Mrs., believed your Aztec joke...... bless her!
Glad you're both enjoying them! Sorry about the Aztec joke I couldn't resist it!
Well done. And never rush. If you slip then it might take a whole lot longer x
Cheers Sue! Yes you are right about that!
Thanks Vince, another relaxing journey. Stay humble, it’s a skill - in my opinion - to play humble, making others feel better about their lot, instead of constantly having to demonstrate your knowledge in order to boost the ego. Well, that’s my take on life anyway. Still the channel I most look forward to updates from. All the best, Steve.
Thanks Steve, that's high praise indeed!
Loved the swing bridge fab vid agane
Thanks Robin see you next time!
Great to see u moving up rhe GU into the more rural parts away from London.... i cannot believe its been a whole year on the cut for you!! As a newbie starting out in the Spring on our narrowboat what is the one piece of advice you can offer that you wished you had been given when u started out..... we have done our first cruise but have not done a lock yet !!! It did make a big difference having 2 of us when doing the Swing Bridge!! Thank goodness you did not get a driver sounding their horn..... however you are entitled to take your time in making sure your boat is safe when mooring before going back. Well done!!! Xx
I will be a veteran soon haha! The one bit of advice is take your time, and don't let other people rush you! I know I was rushing about at the swing bridge, but I wasn't going faster than I was comfortable with, and don't panic! x
Can't believe it's been a year Vince. . . Where on earth has that time gone. This was another great vlog mate and you handled the swing bridge perfectly. I like the nifty rope work . . . Very slick 😂. Take care out there and here's to the next 12 months .
Time flies Mark! Thanks for all the encouragement in that year!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle You are very welcome Vince. . . . And it’s me that thanks YOU for all the entertainment you give.
I’d be a bit nervous on the car gate as well. I don’t like to hold people up. But you got it done quickly. 👍
I try not to upset anyone Steve!
I enjoy your vlog, nothing pompous here.
Thanks for that Karlheinz!
Really enjoyable, very relaxed vlog, Vince. I live in Colchester (alas - no canal here) and often head over to where you filmed this: my sister has lived in Hemel and subsequently Berkhamsted for some forty years or more. I’ve driven along the A41/A4251 many, many times without ever realising that that lovely pub and swing bridge is there in Bourne End, just a few yards from the main road. Next time I visit we’ll have a drive down for some lunch and a spot of gongoozling - all thanks to your video. And my fiancée and I are seriously considering a narrowboat purchase - between us we’ve had so much to contend with in our lives, the gentler life of narrow-boating might just be a lifesaver!
I used to live in Tollesbury, not far from Colchester before I started all this Jeff! Good luck with the Narrowboating!
Great stuff!

Thanks 👍
Very enjoyable vlog Vince. Loved the Aztec locks 😂. Great spot to moor up,let’s hope you don’t have any more weird blokes laying on your roof at this one. Glad you didn’t get any abuse while you done the swing bridge. You seemed to do a good job to me 👍
Cheers Paul, I done my best! No more weirdos (touch wood)
mate, every day is a school day, you keep going as you do, its the best way, i wish i was there too...
You're right Jason. Never too old to learn new stuff!
After the swing bridge I would have been so tempted too nip back for a pint 🍺
Very tempting Roger! If it would have been a hot day, there would have been no contest!
Winkwell swing bridge a favourite play area as a kid it had a big wheel you turned by hand to open on the pub side then it was electrified again with the switch gear on the pub side absolutely no good for a single handed boater then finally they put the switch gear on the proper side as it is now.
I see, it took them a bit of time to work out the correct side to put the controls (not a lot of common sense then)
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle it is still one of the very few with the controls on the proper side wait until you go further north swing bridges and lift bridges nearly all have to be worked from the offside drives everyone mad
@@bigKDL I won't be looking forward to that!
Hello again Vince, another excellent episode of your travels with Aitch. As for when you stop being a new boater. When you stop think through a task and you undertake them naturally. Like that day when driving became automatic, no thinking through which gear or how hard to press the brake. On to your comment re: cold weather and summer. If you keep moving along no matter the weather you've stopped being a fair weather boater and you're half way to becoming a true boater. Looking forward to your next episode. Cheers Kevin.
Cheers Kevin, you make some good points!

Yep, same here!
I know that route by the swing bridge well. Anyone who chooses to go that road shouldn’t be in a hurry anyway 😉
Watercress ponds were to your left.
Quite a few locks on their way…. When you get to Marsworth, it’s definitely worth going along the Aylesbury Arm (watch out for the weeds though)
Great vlog as always.
Cheers Spence! So they grow the watercress in ponds and not moving water! I will see about going to Aylesbury when I get closer. See you on the next one!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle well the ponds are fed by a small river called the Bulbourne.
Aylesbury Arm is 6 miles long but has some really nice parts (especially from Marsworth to bridge 9).
Safe travels
local drivers must know the schedule, get over the bridge in time or line up and wait

Thanks Mrs Povey!
We are definitely looking into getting a narrow boat any advice?
@@1969mrspovey Keep in mind that its not all lovely views and niceness. You have to work and make plans for all your basic amenities, Its a bit like going back to the 50s and 60s which ain't a bad thing! If you think you can put up with that, you're laughing!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle sounds good to .
I always enjoy your videos and your common sense approach to boating. You’re right about dank summer we’re having, I cruised the same stretch as you in May and June and the weather was just the same, except the few days when I went to Harry Potter Studios with my youngest daughter. You should’ve topped up with diesel from Winkwell boatyard it’s the cheapest I found from Watford right up until Kingswood Junction when I joined the Stratford canal. Look forward to the next one.
Thanks Paul! I topped up with the fuel boat (Jules Fuels) a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know about the boat yard! See you on the next one.
Hi Vince. Just going through your vlogs in order. I love them because you just get on with the journey. I also like to find out filming locations for British films, and one comedy I do like is The Bargee. The link is, you went through the Winkwell Swing Bridge, and it also featured in that film. I think they filmed from Bulls Bridge in Hayes, up to the 3 Locks in Stoke Hammond, and the closing credits featured a boat going over the Wolverton/Cosgrove aqueduct. Carry on putting stuff up. Won’t take me long to get to your latest one.
Cheers Roger! I can remember a few clips from that film. I will have to look at it again now to see if I can recognise a few of them places! hope you enjoy the others!
Cracking on there Vince. Looks like you have doing it at a sensible pace. As someone else said here, rushing just increases the the risks. If the cars have to wait, then so be it. This bank holiday I had crew - all were rushing about, leaping on and off which just takes away the pleasure as you're constantly looking out for their next idiotic trick. So going solo has many advantages mate!
I know what you mean Robbie, I concentrate more on what they are doing, and not what should be done! See you next time mate.
Ah, watercress, yes lots of chalk and gravelly rivers providing good clear water to grow in.
There is a river running parallel with the Canal Brian, but the name escapes me!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle That's the River Bulbourne near Winkwell and Bourne End. Nice part of the world.
@@Brian-1948 That's the one!
Here's a question Vince apart from you doing a very good impression of Micky Flannagan with your jokes, as soon as you mentioned Mexicans I thought hello here we go 😄, what's the etiquette concerning the swing bridge if there was a queue of boats waiting how long could the road be closed for?
I'm ashamed to say I haven't got a clue Barry! Haha!
See how Harry Corbett does Winkwell swing bridge in the film “The Bargee” Ah those were the days!
I will take a look at that Tony!
Another lovely vlog Vince. Top Tip - get yourself a windlass holster on your belt? I know slinging the windlass on to the lock is 'usually' fine but I learned the hard way and it involved magnet fishing!
Cheers Bob! Yes that's a good idea mate, I do need something like that!

I didn't think of it like that Jilly!
From when I first started watching your vids, you've come on leaps and bounds, such as flipping a turn over a bollard to slow Aitch and bring her in to the side. I'd written this before you spoke about boating skills.
The bridge was no problem and you got into the SWING of it, if the motorist's are in such a hurry they could jump out and close the bridge as you pass through. The operation could be speeded up a bit if you didn.t need to keep a finger on the button all the time, it would be good if it was one push and nip back and get the boat while the bridge is swinging.
Also bollards instead of rings would be quicker on the second landing. I'm surprised you didn't nip into the boozer to celebrate being a swinger!!!!
Teef chattering, yer on yer bike.
My dad taught me, If you can't help a person, do them no harm. We can all share our experiences and mistakes, and pass on where we went wrong, hopefully they won't do the same.
Stay safe mate and keep swinging, maybe add a bit of jitterbug music at the next bridge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All good pointers, full of common sense as usual! Look after yourself and see you next time!
I've been wondering why everyone is wearing jackets and light fires on their boats. In their last videos, they were saying how hot and humid it was. Here in Pennsylvania, the temperature has been in the 90s, with high humidity, throughout the whole month of August. We've also had a lot of rain this summer. Right now we are expecting a lot of rain from the Storm, Ida. In the Valley, they have put up the Flood Gate on the river. I have a gut feeling that we are going to have a bad snowy winter this year. And when we get snow, we get a lot of snow here in the Pocono Mountains. Thanks for sharing your experience with me and the lovely scenery in your vlog..... Till next time stay safe.
Thanks Jessiah! Yes I'm afraid to say the weather over here this summer has been a bit of a let down! Would love plenty of snow this winter.

Nice vid again Cuz. With the swing bridge and you being solo, is there anything to stop the drivers or gongooglers offering to help you open and close the bridge to speed things up for everyone?
Cheers Rees! No there's nothing to stop them helping, you just have to trust that they have the good sense to be able to operate the controls!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle ah yes, the not so common anymore, common sense 😜
@@reesjordan3093 More like uncommon sense I'd say! haha!
talking about stress how stressful was it to navigate from the LEE through London on the regent and beyond or is going through London relative easy going ? thanks for another great vlog.
The hardest bit about it Elliott is there are no moorings!
Sir, I've been subscribed for a bit now and I like your content. If you ever get a pompous ass, we'll call you out - though I don't think that that will ever be needed.
One thought concerning the swing bridge: Would it be possible to just wait on the bridge mooring until another boat comes along intending to pass through so that you can team up? If they are 2 or more they can do the bridge and you profit, and if you both are single boaters you, for example, open the bridge while they're hovering in front of it, then they moor up and close the bridge behind you as you pass through.
Thanks for subbing! That would make it easier going through the swing bridge, but sometimes I might have to wait a while for someone to come along Christian!
It was actually the Mayans ... ;-) lol not the Mexicans :-D You are so funny! Love your humor :)
I do try, but not always right haha!

The mid-month heatwave has helped the UK to its joint fifth warmest July on record according to provisional Met Office figures, with Scotland and Northern Ireland recording their third warmest July, in a month where Northern Ireland also broke its all-time high temperature record, exceeding 31C multiple times.
The mean temperature for July 2021 in the UK was 16.6°C, which put it level with July 1995’s figure, although still some way short of the record figure of 17.8C in 2006. Northern Ireland (16.4° C) and Scotland (15.1°C) saw their third warmest Julys, Wales (16.5°C) its ninth warmest and England (17.5°C) its eleventh warmest.
