Cow Roast is a funny old place. Nice from the canal but from the road, it’s basically just a car showroom and a main road from Berko to Tring.
I noticed that! Plus a petrol garage that's closed haha!

Lovely area, the colourful painted bridges of Berkhamsted are beautiful. Luckily the prop obstruction was fairly simple to fix, phew!

Good work Vince. Ten locks are daunting but there is usually somebody to share with and other boaters’ & gongoozlers’ who help out. I did an overnight at Cowroast but unfortunately the pub was closed!

Hi Vince. You were quite lucky to meet up with other boaters to help you out at the locks this time. What a lovely area and what nice people. Shame about the mess around the prop but when you think of all the rubbish and weeds it happens. Nice to see you still enjoying yourself. I liked the bridges too……very compatible with canal art. I like seeing more of the county I live in along with Aitch.
How are you doing mate, you commented on liking the colour of the wide beam but I did like the green and edging of the barge at 7:57 near Waitrose.
I was going to comment on opening the gate at Gas lock 1. But the assistant had read my mind. On another canal boat channel a young lad with a bike worked the locks for a boater by setting and closing each lock and riding ahead. The boater offered him a tip but he wouldn't take it, what a great young lad.
You weren't rude not stopping for a chat with the other boater, just in a hurry to get to the Crapper.
That was a busy day, luckily you had some help. Boating reminds me of motoring back in the 60s & 70s. When other motorist would stop and help and the AA man on his motorcycle and side car would salute members.

I'm fine thanks, hope you are well! I liked that boat too (Exchaliber) I saw that vid, the boy took a pair of trainers off of Will the boater, but wouldn't take money! I did get plenty of exercise the day of this video! There are a still few numpties on the cut, but on the whole people are friendly and helpful! See you next time!

Hello Vince, this episode made for a nice cruise through some beautiful scenery. That was always the best part for me, finding a nice stretch of the cut out in the countryside. A few minor problems but you'd get them whatever your choice of transport. The thing is never to let them spoil the day. Oh! and one last thing, please don't step from the roof directly onto the lock side, one person we had with us missed her footing and went down the side between the boat and the wall. Thankfully two of us grabbed an arm each just before someone who didn't know what all the yelling was about and opened a sluice. She came up like a cork out of a bottle just before the boat moved into the wall. Lesson learnt for us. Tring next time? Cheers.

Great commentary, interesting scenery and boats!! Glad u unwrapped that fender rope off your prop...... could have been much worse, do you have a good hacksaw to aid with nasty things that can wrap round?? Looks like you are heading into a more rural setting ahead soon. Xx

I was told once you should look at the locks as a challenge...so when you do like the Huddersfield narrow canal in two days 42 locks😤 with little or no chance to get to the lock morrings and low water you feel good that you've done them... I must admit I've done them twice now and really don't look forward to doing them again but nobody uses the canal so they're not going to get fixed if nobody uses them catch 22 really
I will have to remember not to go there on my own. Don't think I would enjoy that!

Hi Vince, it’s Jeff from Colchester again. Thanks for another really enjoyable vlog, showing what’s to be found along the GUC. Visiting my sister in Berko (Berkhamsted) back in late May we watched a large team of CRT engineers setting up a floating pontoon to paint that footbridge you commented on (nice colour!) It certainly looks loads better than it did a few months ago. Now they just need someone in to weed some of those lock gates - not to mention dredging some of those very shallow pounds! Keep safe, hope the weather holds a bit longer for you.

You should have stayed in the lock.. walked up to the next lock filled it ..then emptied it.. then preceded on... you would have had enough water it's just like a boat was coming down..
