If this was later season Sheldon there's NO WAY he would've grabbed that chicken out of the bin at the end. Early season madness.
He could wash his hands the moment he reaches the apartment after setting down the bag (NOT at the table), then wash his hands, take out the take-out containers, wash his hands again for good measure, then sit down to eat.
Sure he could just go but more food, he has the money for it, but his schedule would have been ruined. And we know how punctual Sheldon likes to be.
Never throw away good food

Her being a bad singer is why she never had a musical number

Two big errors in this scene
-Sheldon grabbing the chicken out of the trash
-Leonard saying "throw away some chicken", he just could say "we went to buy some chicken food".

Penny's not the worst singer in the world. I've heard far worse than her. She just doesn't really have a great singing voice.
Sheldon went to all that effort to avoid hearing Penny sing, including fabricating a fictional cousin, yet he willingly asks her to sing him "Soft Kitty" when he's sick, in the very next episode.
Her singing voice could be weaponized against those monsters in "A Quiet Place."

Leonard's reasoning for throwing away food doesn't make sense.
In his own way, he is also very bad at lying. Because deep down he is a honest person.
Why did they throw out the chicken? What was it supposed to confirm? It's been baffling me for nearly 20 years
I think it's so that Penny won't follow them back for dinner because of the chicken. No chicken, no dinner, no penny folding then back for dinner.
It's just my theory tho

How exactly do you tell a friend that they can’t sing without hurting their feelings?
Just tell them they can't sing, better to tell them 1 on 1 than let them sing in a group setting or audition where they'll be completely humiliated
You just tell them. If they’re your friend, they deserve the truth. Their feelings will be hurt regardless but at least they won’t embarrass themselves in front of a big group of people

Leonard should've just been honest and told Penny upfront she's not a great singer, Leonard talked about not hurting her feelings but how does he think she'd feel being humiliated at an audition?
A good singer can fake it and make themselves sound bad however a bad singer cannot fake it and make themself sound good
