@@liberpolo5540 You can be spoiled and pressured. Draco's parents made sure to give him everything he needed, but he also felt pressure to live up to the family name and not taint it by having opposing views. But later he realized that thinking was wrong.
Narcissa is the type of person who keeps their public profile discreet and non threatening. She downplays her own talents while keeping herself just useful enough to avoid having her loyalties questioned.
@@maymay5600 I think Lucius knew how she is but she doesn't look like the one to share her plans even to the closed ones...Lucius too wanted the best for Draco but I think Narcissa never exactly told Lucius what she exactly plans to do...when Harry comes alive and the time span in which Lucius moves out from that place with his family shows that he wasn't really surprised that Narcissa had lied about Harry
The most dangerous person is the one who observes and waits for the right moment...Narcissa is an example of that type. She waited for the right moment to strike.
We also need to remember that Voldemort is an extremely powerful legilimens; only Snape had even been able to lie to him before this scene. So Narcissa might also be an extremely powerful occlumens who just hid her talent (never really needing it, since she never had to lie about her loyalties). Alternately/additionally, Voldemort could have sensed her excitement at learning Draco was safe, but mistaken it for excitement that Harry was dead. It would be just like him to be steered by pride alone and forget the power of love. But either way, Narcissa made a genius move in that scene.
Also considering the fact that with the Horcrux destroyed Voldemort could no longer sense Harry which could have left him to believe Narcissa's confirmation.
Nah it was because Old Voldy over here just got knocked out 5 seconds ago and just woke up plus he just really wanted to see harry dead so he probably really wanted to believe her and also Voldemort never thought much about Narcissa because Narcissa had no reason to betray him she probs just saved Harry cause she knew that they had 0% of winning so she did it to save her and her son's own skin but whatever
Harry did never become a successful occlumens. Instead he foraged on sweet memories of his parents and friends to blind voldy's mind attacks. I personally dont think Narcissa was an established occlumens, there's no record for that. She did it out of lover for her son, the same love lily had for Harry The same kind of love voldy has absolutely no idea about.
@@whytho1534 I think this too. Why would Voldemort suddenly start searching Narcissas mind when he was so excited too? he was in for the show and was over-confident. She played a good hand.
completely agree, narcissa is amazing, She's such an underrated character in my opinion, I remember the scene where she lied to Voldemort about harry's death everyone in the theatre was holding their breathes to see what would happen.
Narcissa has a sad past. Though we don't know much, you can only imagine how it felt losing both her sisters. One to insanity, the other to the one she loved. I've always felt bad for Narcissa. She has had a rough life, and honestly doesn't get as much recognition as she should.
I guess Voldemort would have never imagined that Narcissa would dare lie to him. What, from Voldemort perspective, had she as loyal deatheater(?) or at least wife of a deatheater gain from lying? Also, Voldemort wanted Harry to be dead, so deep down he wanted to believe it anyway. I think Voldemort did not use his occlemency powers in this moment.
@@xavermeier8357 Not to mention that Voldemort himself was effected by the avada kadavra he used on Harry prior to that. It temporarily incapacitated him. He might not have been 100% in the moment...and like you said, he wanted to believe that Harry was dead.
finsfan90 My thought with Voldemort knocking himself out has to do with him destroying the horcrux. Also I wonder if perhaps with each horcrux destroyed if his body became weaker. Closer to death. He just didn’t know it because he had mangled his soul so much.
@@SoumalyaHomRoy Some really good points ^^ with both his arrogance, his maimed soul and him being shaken by being hit by his own spell. So he probably didn't employ Legilimency at the instance of having Narcissa confirm Harry's death. No doubt he has used Legilimency on his Death Eaters and their family members on prior occasions, yet Narcissa passed all those tests.
Narcissa, Slughorn and Regulus Black are my 3 favourite Slytherins. I also appreciate Snape and Bellatrix as characters, but the first three actually had some amazing character development which in the end turned them into awesome people.
Let’s not get carried away. Yes, she did some things that worked for the side of good but only for her own selfish reasons. She begged Snape to kill Dumbledore so that Draco wouldn’t fail and die, but she still plotted the murder of a man she knew and didn’t care about what the consequences would be for Snape. Ultimately, she was selfish was willing To go along with evil if it meant she got what she wanted.
If Bellatrix had lived to see Snape's true loyalties revealed I'd have loved to see her reaction "I was right about you all along Snape. You've always been Dumbledore's lapdog. The Dark Lord is so much more powerful than the weak old man you serve."
True, but it would have bent her mind around to realize that Snape was willing to kill someone he truly loved and cared for. It would also have shocked her that Dumbledore knew what the plan was and he set up his own death with Snape beforehand.
Might it have been because Draco had conflicting feelings and thoughts within himself? It's hard to explain it. I leave it to you to come up with your own interpretation of these words. You are more than welcome to offer one in your own words.
@@pyramidhead8659 If I remember correctly before Hallows, there was a scene where Draco was looking at a freshly tortured victim and it was implied he didn't really enjoy it. Consider, this was a boy written to be unpleasant. It didn't surprise me the least bit he didn't give up Harry.
There is no stark good and bad in all of us.. Like life's not black and white, only shades of grey. Except for Narcissa's hair. Then it's okay to be black and white.
I feel like she probably ended up hating Lucius in the end. It was he who repeated put Draco in danger by getting so caught up in death eating. I like to think she left him directly after the battle of hogwarts
Lucius had no choice. Lucius' family was at risk due to his decision to become a death eater. I am not sure if Lucius even considered how becoming a death eater would impact his future children. Lucius loved Draco too, he was searching for him with Narcissa abandoning Voldemort to look for Draco. Lucius was done but had no way out.
Well from what we know after the battle both of them remained married to each other and were still just as in love with each other as they were when they were younger
I agree!! She's one of the most underrated characters in the series. I love rewatching that scene in the last movie, when Voldemort is marching over to Hogwarts with "dead" Harry, and Narcissa is smirking in the background the entire time XD XD
I always thought that to her, the most important thing was the well-being of her family. I don’t think she would have been at Voldemort’s meetings if Lucius was not (at least at a time) one of Voldemort’s key generals. However, I don’t think she would have ever spoken out against him either way because I don’t think she valued the conflict between pure bloods and muggle borns the way someone like Bellatrix would.
What I love about the Black Sisters is that they were all completely different. Bella- EVIL, Married someone she didn’t love Nar.- PLOT TWIST, Married for Love Adr. Good, Married for love
R.I.P Helen Mccroy and thank you for your phenomenal performance in giving HP fans everywhere an in-depth portrayal in the complex psyche of Narcissa Malfoy.
I swear to God nearly every year a phenomenal cast member from the HP is lost😢. Helen was still at her prime age 52 passing away at her home due to metastasized breast cancer.
I swear Narcissa is such an underrated character. We all know that she's an elegant lady who's also intelligent and knows what she's doing but no they didn't gave her enough screen time both in the movie and the book and they're missing out her full potential. She's my favourite Black Sisters among the others and ALSO J.K Rowling really needs to tell us more about the Malfoy family and the Black Family. I can't get enough with these Black Sisters fan short movies tbh. Also in the end she did the right choice to leave with her family(Draco and Lucius).
She didn't lied because she wanted to save Harry! The only thing she cared about was getting to Draco and the only way was the "victory march" back to Hogwarts because if she told Voldemort that Harry was alive he'd have attacked the castle again.
Fair point. But to her, Harry survived the killing curse twice. Once as a baby, and once before their very eyes. It was time to switch allegiances to the more powerful wizard.
why would he have attacked the castle again? he was only attacking it to get to harry, he thought that killing everyone there was a waste of magical blood and only did so because they refused to surrender harry to him. if narcissa told him harry was alive, voldemort would have just fired another killing curse at him since he was lying right in front of him
She lied to protect Draco and end this. Isn't it obvious? She wasn't pledged to Voldemort, she was pledged to her family. Voldemort wins - her family is in danger. Anyway, Harry survived so many times it would be stupid not to switch, and she chose the perfect moment.
I always assumed Narcissa manipulated Bellatrix into coming to the meeting with Snape. She needed him to help Draco but she herself hadn't the relationship to entice him or neccesarily force him but Bellatrix could.
in the book the 6 th book started with bella chasing after 'cissy' to not got to snape and ask him to keep draco safe and also i think snape was very independent and bellatrix wasnt very close to him so she couldnt necessarily force him to do it. She knew that she mightve not been VOLDEMORTS FAVE as snape killed dumbledore etc. and bella didnt want to do anything to offend snape as she doesnt want voldemort to see less of her because snape reported her and she is also related to the malfoys mainly lucius who at that point have made many mistakes. bella was just basically a mad but strong dark witch or one of my friends sister in law to snape so i dont think she could entice snape.😊 cant believe i acc just wrote all this for harry potter. what can i say?[angel]
her love for draco was stronger than her devotion to voldemort, and dare i say stronger than her love for lucius. although she was raised to believe in pureblood supremacy, i can tell that she cared more about protecting her family rather than following the dark lord's orders.
@Just Amelia she asks if draco is alive so they can go into hogwarts and she can be with him. If draco was dead she wouldn't care about going. Thats what I think anyway, could be wrong
@@Rose-fq8wf that's what she meant...she knew Draco is involved in the Battle of Hogwarts and many had died that's why she asked him so that she can make further plans...if Draco had died I don't think she would have cared about Voldemort's life or death (she knew leaving Harry alive means Voldemort will die bcz everyone knew he was the chosen one)
Just Amelia she asked harry if draco was still alive. when he nodded she knew that if harry was sure he was alive, she could trust him. and the fact that harry even trusted nacrissa enough to risk letting a death eater know he was alive should be enough to lie for him
I think she truly was friend with Severus. That the raison she asked him (and not another one) to protect Draco. Secondly, if you look on the movie, she noticed Draco recognized Harry Potter and didn't say anything besides when he told he didn't recognized Harry and Lucius tried to push Draco, Narcissa just asked her usband to stay away from Draco. In the end, she saved Harry's life not because of him but because of Draco, the only one, who she was truly loyal : her son.
Um... I had a thought... maybe it has been addressed... but where did fluffy go after his job was over guarding the entrance to the philosopher’s stone
it surprises me really. even though she seems okay and obviously, she cares about draco more than voldemort, (although she’s not a death eater) but it really surprised me. wouldn’t she gain justice for her family after the order of the phoenix?
She didn't care about politics and justice. She just wanted her son to be alright amid of this bullshit. Voldemort put her son in danger multiple times, it's normal she wants him to die.
My theory is just that she was very skilled at oclimensy and injelimemcy and no one realy knew about it But this is probably wrong cause I do not really know

RIP Helen McCrory :/ As you said rightly Narcissa Malfoy is one of the most underrated characters in the Harry Potter books/films, and followed up by the perfect performances that Helen McCrory gave.
Literally my favourite scene is when Narcissa told Voldemort that Harry is dead. It's just so...dang I can't even find the right word when talking about this scene it felt so powerful
The look on Narcissa & Severus' faces at the moment of the unbreakable spell makes me think that maybe one or both of the actors decided that either the spell revealed to Narcissa, or that she just figured out, that he was a double agent. It may just be as suggested that she kinda confirmed to herself that that Draco was being set up for the slaughter, but they both look as if they're sharing a secret that Bellatrix doesn't know about.
They definitely formed a secret alliance there. Snape obviously never wanted to kill Harry and Narcissa just following his husband's will. Theyre both in an odd situation
@@gamaliel5584😂 nope. You think Lucius Malfoy wanted his son dead? It was Voldemort's will, and punishment for Lucius losing the prophecy. Narcissa is secretly a master occlumens. Books. Read them.
Just as you stated, Narcissa played her role exquisitely!!! She’s knew exactly what to do, and played her role to the best of her ability. She saw the dark lords motive and stayed one or two steps ahead so that what she valued most,,, her son,,,,would stay out of harms way. Bravo 👏🏻 Narcissa!!
When I was reading Deathly Hallows and I was at that moment when she lied to Voldemort i was speechless. At some points i really likes Malfoys but with that moment I love her even more. Like she have so much courage and power to do this. So yes, that's the power of mother love
A Mother’s love knows no bounds, despite her outward behavior toward anyone not of pure blood status Narcissa was indeed an incredible Mother. There are a lot of incredible devoted Mothers in Harry Potter. Though some who’s actions resulted in some of the worst human beings, like Merope Gaunt and Mrs. Crouch. I’ve read the series since I was 11(coincidence) and as I became a Mother my perspective shifted from being one of Harry’s friends to being a concerned Mother. I felt like I was watching things unfold for Harry through Lilly’s eyes, and it changed the series tremendously for me!
She was beautifully written, and brilliantly acted by the late Helen Mccroy. Mothers are a strong theme in Harry Potter, as well as Narcisssa, other important Mums are Lily Potter and Molly Weasley, and to varying degrees; Voldemorts Mum (Merope I think), Neville Longbottoms Mum (and his Dad), Kendra Dumbledore, Mrs Lovegood, Mrs Crouch and Nymphadora Tonks.
Such a nice surprise to see this video! a great analysis of Narcissa's character and her development. I loved exploring her cunning complexities too... She really did fool everyone.
I remember seeing her say “he’s dead” in the movie and immediately knowing she was lying, and that the malfoy family (evil as some of them may be) were really just great witches and wizards acting out of fear.
She’s always fascinated me, don’t get me wrong I love a lot of the more popular characters but hers just hits exactly where you want a character like hers to, everything she did was to protect Draco she even has the famous line “he’s just a kid” when Draco is being told he’s going to be a death eater she doesn’t want him to, but she let it happen because of the loyalty and love she had for her husband, but through it all her whole life after Draco was him and solely keeping him safe no matter the cost
Voldemort put her child in danger time and again and she didn't have any loyalty to him anymore.

Narcissa is the type of person who keeps their public profile discreet and non threatening. She downplays her own talents while keeping herself just useful enough to avoid having her loyalties questioned.
Yes
you think her husband knew this as well? because she played her part very well indeed

Yet again, Harry saved by a mother’s love.
So true
I like to imagine Harry’s time as a Horcrux as a circle. It starts and ends with a mother who loves her son; Lily and Harry, Narcissa and Draco.
underrated comment
This is what jk Rowling said
You know how there are bad good guys, she''s like a good bad guy
Agreed
You mean the neutral good / lawful evil / chaotic good / true neutral table? Or the antivillain / antihero?
*a lesser evil than might have otherwise had been expected...but still rather dangerous if crossed or deeply annoyed*
Good Bad guys are always my favorites. That's why I love snape, narcissa and draco so much. Lucius was just a coward though.
I don't't think she's bad, luckily she didn't kill anyone.
Exactly this.
She did it out of lover for her son, the same love lily had for Harry
The same kind of love voldy has absolutely no idea about.
@@whytho1534 I think this too. Why would Voldemort suddenly start searching Narcissas mind when he was so excited too? he was in for the show and was over-confident. She played a good hand.
Has anyone else noticed how Narcissa’s hair is dark and light?? People!, am I crazy or is that just the most beautiful symbol ever!
Yes I like that detail
A true Slytherin. Much like Snape. they both slyly betrayed Voldemort out of love.
narcissa’s reaction when Harry ‘came back to life’
“Wow gasp he’s alive I’m shook sister”
And then just left with her family like a boss
completely agree, narcissa is amazing, She's such an underrated character in my opinion, I remember the scene where she lied to Voldemort about harry's death everyone in the theatre was holding their breathes to see what would happen.
narcissi pulled the greatest uno reverse card in all of the wizarding world
Did you see how calm draco got when Narcissa put her arm around him.
narcissa was brilliant like imagine having to think so quickly yet thoroughly and carefully like that is incredible
Narcissa has a sad past. Though we don't know much, you can only imagine how it felt losing both her sisters. One to insanity, the other to the one she loved. I've always felt bad for Narcissa. She has had a rough life, and honestly doesn't get as much recognition as she should.
Actually she and Bellatrix together cut off ties with Andromeda. At that point her pure blood mania would have overridden any sentimentality of sorts.
She must rival Snape in her Occlumency prowess to have pulled this off.
@@xavermeier8357
Not to mention that Voldemort himself was effected by the avada kadavra he used on Harry prior to that. It temporarily incapacitated him. He might not have been 100% in the moment...and like you said, he wanted to believe that Harry was dead.
Voldemort is arrogant. He believes everyone fears him so much that no one will lie. In the end his arrogance caused his downfall.
finsfan90 My thought with Voldemort knocking himself out has to do with him destroying the horcrux.
She's a typical Slytherin. She looked out for herself and her interests.
Not really bc she looked out for her son whenever she could and put her life on the line she was smart
She was equally brave to do what she did

Okay but she literally started a trend with her hair. BOSS BTCH
Okay but... no she didnt.
Lady gaga, Kelly Osbourne and a couple others started that trend.
Narcissa, Slughorn and Regulus Black are my 3 favourite Slytherins. I also appreciate Snape and Bellatrix as characters, but the first three actually had some amazing character development which in the end turned them into awesome people.
She is a grand counterpoint to the sainted Lily Potter, who also gave her all, doing questionable magic ahead of time to save her son.
I think narcissa Malloy is in the middle of the dark and the light
Just like Snape :)
In other words gray
Lol
hence her hair? jk
I would love to see that happen
OK.
True, but it would have bent her mind around to realize that Snape was willing to kill someone he truly loved and cared for. It would also have shocked her that Dumbledore knew what the plan was and he set up his own death with Snape beforehand.
Helen McCroy did a wonderful performance. It’s so sad that we lost this great actress 😪
Drago Malfoy did the same thing when he refused to identify Harry to Bellatrix in the Malfoy Manor.
Might it have been because Draco had conflicting feelings and thoughts within himself?
It's hard to explain it.
I leave it to you to come up with your own interpretation of these words.
You are more than welcome to offer one in your own words.
Draco and Harry are frenemies.
Draco is the character that represents the saying "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

R.I.P. Helen McCrory, you may be gone but you will never be forgotten.
Bella- EVIL, Married someone she didn’t love

It was time to switch allegiances to the more powerful wizard.
why would he have attacked the castle again? he was only attacking it to get to harry, he thought that killing everyone there was a waste of magical blood and only did so because they refused to surrender harry to him. if narcissa told him harry was alive, voldemort would have just fired another killing curse at him since he was lying right in front of him
@@jhibbitt2896 yep that's 100% right!!
Hogwarts was her, Lucius and dracos home..of course she didn't want it to be attacked again.
She lied to protect Draco and end this. Isn't it obvious? She wasn't pledged to Voldemort, she was pledged to her family. Voldemort wins - her family is in danger. Anyway, Harry survived so many times it would be stupid not to switch, and she chose the perfect moment.
Severus Snape deserves an entire video devoted to the complexity and importance of his character to the entire Harry Potter series🐍
“A mother’s love is a mother’s love no matter what side you’re on.”
It’s true that Draco was saved by his mother’s love just as much as Harry was.

Just Amelia she asked harry if draco was still alive. when he nodded she knew that if harry was sure he was alive, she could trust him. and the fact that harry even trusted nacrissa enough to risk letting a death eater know he was alive should be enough to lie for him
@@sritanvi2548 Narcissa was never a death eater.
Harry: Yes Aunt Petunia.
Neville: Yes Grandma.

The look on Narcissa & Severus' faces at the moment of the unbreakable spell makes me think that maybe one or both of the actors decided that either the spell revealed to Narcissa, or that she just figured out, that he was a double agent. Wow a post from 11 seconds ago? What a pleasure
