I am from Memphis and sort of figured about this score. Memphis has a good offense but not much of a defense. I sort of figured Penn State would kill Memphis, but Memphis kept up for awhile. Memphis has really stepped up the last few years and its really amazing. Has had two excellent coaches come and go and hopefully the team will become sort of a training ground for hungry and smart young coaches to come in the future. 12-2 and be in the Cotton Bowl is really amazing, and Memphis played well considering the stronger opponent.
Penn State fan here, Memphis played an impressive game. You were the only team all year to score more than 31 points on us (and Minnesota was the only other one to score more than 28 on us), to put up that many on such a defense is an impressive feat. Also, I think this game showed why the AAC used to be a BCS conference when it was the Big East, they can play with anybody including the Alabama and Clemson type teams.
Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons excelled in this game. He had a pair of sacks and 14 total tackles. If Micah stays at Penn St. next year, he could be a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate.
R McElhaney He’s great laterally and a blitzer but pretty bad if you run right at him. Adding some pounds in the off-season and improving his technique and he could be a top NFL pick
Fun game! Memphis fans should be proud of their offense this season. It certainly showed today. My Nittany Lions had their hands full for most of the game, but I'm proud of the offense for their will to pound the rock and the defense for doing enough to limit an explosive Memphis team to mostly field goals. Perfect performance? No, not at all, but enough for today and a good note to finish the season on. I know many PSU fans were hoping for the Rose Bowl, but this was a nice win in a great bowl over a respectable opponent. I'm thankful for that and looking forward to Firemoose and company trucking more defenders next year. WE ARE!
we shot ourselves in the foot on offense buddy...and gave you guys two opportunities at very short fields...the INTS were also bad decisions and not great plays by Penn...we could have easily made this a different ending but we beat ourselves...
@@andremiller4863 Tell yourself whatever you need to buddy. Funny thing about that argument is it works both ways: Maybe PSU shot itself in the foot on defense by allowing so so many wide open receivers downfield--those 479 pass yards were a gift, not good plays by Memphis, so the different ending should've been 4 or 5 scores lead instead of 2. Of course in reality both teams made big mistakes and big plays alike. I didn't see any of those kids yesterday trying to give anything away. With near 400 yards on the ground mostly between the tackles, PSU offense didn't need many short fields to score points, and the D while porous through the air as has been the case most of the season, did enough to force 6 kicks on 4th downs and yes took the ball away a few times and even scored once because of a huge play by Parsons. Give credit where due. By the way, Penn is an FCS school in Philly who didn't play yesterday.
Man this was a great game! Had me on edge until the last pick near the end-zone. Total props to Memphis - came out to play and left it on the field. Lots of potential for both teams next season.
I knew this game would be a tough one, AAC used to be the Big East, a conference full of teams that would often pull big surprises in major bowl games. Everyone was talking about Memphis like they were Buffalo or Troy but AAC teams remind everyone so often why the Big East was a BCS conference. As a Penn State fan, I felt good about this two-touchdown win.
Man that Memphis team was STACKED looking back at it 5 years later. 3 NFL RB’s, Patrick Taylor, Antonio Gibson, Kenneth Gainwell. An NFL WR, Calvin Austin. An NFL OL, Dylan Parham. An NFL LB, JJ Russell. An NFL DB, Chris Claybrooks. And an NFL K in Riley Patterson. Pretty good for a group of 5 school.
Memphis is in a BIG market, has some very nice facilities, and is in proximity to both the main Big 12 AND West Virginia. If I was looking to expand the conference, they would be the first school I'd call.
Wow. What a ball game. Memphis has a bright future ahead of them if they can keep improving and recruit well. As for Penn State, Franklin has done an INCREDIBLE job making a rebuilding year another NY6 bowl win. At this point, he is definitely one of top ten coaches in America.

I'm glad the offense shut things down but there were 20 missed tackles in this highlight. 8 in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd, 6 in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th. Our defense will be #1 if we can fix missed tackles.
Penn state is gonna be scary next year they have a lot of playmakers on both sides of the ball they just need to develop a little bit and they gonna be a major force
John Gucci Ball I think penn state has a chance of beating osu . Penn state fans should be happy for next year hope my team improves next year too GBO 🍊🍊🍊
To be real, what Memphis need for next year is a Defensive Coordinator who's an expert in nickel-based defenses, primarily the classic 4-2-5, the 3-3-5(which Memphis innovated under Joe Lee Dunn), and the relatively recent 1-5-5. Other than that, Memphis had a great season. UPDATE: Well, looks like there's a high chance Memphis will run a 3-4 defense this upcoming season, because they've hired Mike McIntyre as their new Defensive Coordinator.
Another good NY6 win for my Nittany Lions, but there are some obvious areas where they need to improve. The passing game has to get better. Some of it is the receivers dropping catchable balls, some of it is Clifford’s inconsistency. Hopefully the new OC from Minnesota should remedy that after sending Corey Davis to the NFL from Western Michigan and developing Rashod Bateman, Tyler Johnson, and Tanner Morgan at Minnesota. The secondary has to play better. I think some of that can be scheme related because Pry is very aggressive with his blitzes. However, that doesn’t excuse all the missed open field tackles. If we improve in those areas, then watch out next year. Penn State still got to 11 wins this year even with those flaws.
Penn States DBs r getting destroyed by Memphis WRs now....ik Memphis was really good this year but Penn St seriously needs to get a good DB coach or they won’t win the B1G for a long time
Perfect RB rotation. Made them chase Journey all day and gassed them. Then when we needed to put it away, we gave them a power look with a steady dose of a fresh Noah Cain.
Giving the talent gap Memphis did good, without their head coach and defensive coach, you can tell they was well coach with 2&3 •players when penn state has 4&5• . Don’t say penn state wasn’t motivated
Judging from their performance and celebration post game, Penn State was DEFINITELY motivated. Memphis put together a furious upset bid that almost won.
I have a bridge to sell you if you think that we got up for this game like we do games against a top B1G opponent or other top Power 5 opponent. Did they want to win? Sure. Did they take it more lightly than they should have? Probably. They ultimately realized that Memphis came to play and that they are good...but don't think for one second that these guys were as hyped about this game as the Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Michigan State, Wisconsin games! It doesn't take away anything from Memphis's efforts or talents, but let'skeep it real.
@@derricklanders7260 I would say in the first half of the game you are probably right but in the 2nd half they knew they were in a dogfight and better step up. As a PSU fan this was very encouraging to see because last year in the Citrus bowl they didn't. I think they also realized what an opportunity they blew loosing to Minnesota, because most likely they would have been in the playoffs.
im not from the states, to go to these college football games is it free? or do you have to pay? and if so more or less how much? (it´s just mind boggling for me that sports are so big and important there, like what!? )
This game really just shows what next year can be the lawn boys are going to be the scariest unit in the big ten pat friermuth didn’t make many catches but he was beast when he did and his blocking is off the charts next year is the best chance Clifford needs improvement if we get Clifford right this offense could be scary
Great recruiting for next year expecting a lot of young receivers to get early chances and freshman like John dunmore our weight on him he will be crazy
Good eye!! Yowww, that was on #11 Micah Parsons, get the f out! He got clobbbered to say the least, he was working the one guy and the running back put the left shoulder in and down he went with a tug from the other guy, all in 2 seconds.
@bullybuc Him not "following the play" is him staying home backside for any reverse plays. At one point, memphis tried a double reverse around penn states 20-25 yard line and Parsons stuffed it for a loss of about 10.
@bullybuc Also, he is a linebacker getting double teamed by 300 point lineman. You shouldn't expect him to. It just helps other players make plays, like gross-matos and windsor.

1:46 Journey Brown took those little boys to church and told them to sit down!
He said "Brining that smoke" 🤣 1:53
I'm glad the offense shut things down but there were 20 missed tackles in this highlight. 8 in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd, 6 in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th. Our defense will be #1 if we can fix missed tackles.
And our pass defense. Almost 500 passing yards today... doesn't look good.
Agreed but if anything we MUST fix that secondary. We can't compete with OSU next year if we don't do that
Penn state is gonna be scary next year they have a lot of playmakers on both sides of the ball they just need to develop a little bit and they gonna be a major force
OSU still a powerhouse but u guys will easily b second best in the B1G next year
John Gucci Ball psu winning big ten next year. Psu doesnt lose anybody on offense and they play all their tough games at home
John Gucci Ball I think penn state has a chance of beating osu . Penn state fans should be happy for next year hope my team improves next year too GBO 🍊🍊🍊
NoShotgun92 yup that’s what I feel penn state has future studs. It’s up to the coaching staff now to call the plays
It will be interesting to see what a good Offensive Coordinator can pull of with these guys. Rahne wasn’t cutting it.
Good Ol' Game! 👌🏾
Damonte Coxie is a beast ‼️
Great game, had a little bit of everything and then some.
Let’s go Big Ten!
@Andy Gygi LSU also looks incredibly scary right now...I know its Oklahoma's defense but still, got there work cut out for them
Brown was a good running back for penn state.
Memphis had opportunity after opportunity to win this game and blew it every time
Another good NY6 win for my Nittany Lions, but there are some obvious areas where they need to improve.
If Penn St is to win the B1G they need to get better DBs after that it’s simply getting Clifford more comfortable with his WRs
Penn States DBs r getting destroyed by Memphis WRs now....ik Memphis was really good this year but Penn St seriously needs to get a good DB coach or they won’t win the B1G for a long time
We only have one solid DB. John Reed. Rest are basically newbs.
Wonder why Franklin can’t recruit good ones
@@johngucciball3751
Was focused on replacing the offense. Like Barkley and McSorley's back up who transferred out.. Godwin, Gesicky, yada yada.
Agreed, they cannot cover anybody for the whole year! The other part need to be improved is the offensive line.
Memphis is good. Hopeful it can schedule ole miss, msu, auburn, and bama and win those games.
2022 now. PSU is being whispered as a possible Cotton Bowl team for 2022, so I ended up back here to watch these old highlights.
Yo Penn State got some SPEED
Big 10 3-0 let’s show them we the best conference
@cruelCalamity except you do
@cruelCalamity its one of the if not the most competitive conferences in college football... go to bed kid lmao
right,,,, look who they were matched up to,,,,,
@@jimmyhaley727 3rd best acc, aac champion and 17th best team in the nation, and a 22 ranked power 5 team, lmao
Sec!
Perfect RB rotation. Made them chase Journey all day and gassed them. Then when we needed to put it away, we gave them a power look with a steady dose of a fresh Noah Cain.
Memphis but up a good fight
👍
William Ivery Ik they were gonna lose but really wanted them to win
@@jacksondollack6253 me to born and raised
@@derricklanders7260 I dunno, the Cotton Bowl is a pretty big deal. I'd be up for the game no matter who I was playing.
Derrick Landers I would agree that they wasn’t jack for this game like Ohio st game, but they did realize they didn’t want to get embarrassed
im not from the states, to go to these college football games is it free? or do you have to pay? and if so more or less how much? (it´s just mind boggling for me that sports are so big and important there, like what!? )
He Hit Him With Sauce 😂💯💨
Nice game Penn St.
No presentation of the trophy? The Cotton Bowl trophy is one of the cooler looking ones.
It was shown only on the ESPN app, because of the Peach Bowl's starting.
12:14 I was so hoping to hear "holy shit!". So close.
Too bad about Journey Browns heath condition because the dude was soo fast.
@5:26... first ever 2nd & 41 on the opponent's 37 yard line.
Good eye, I'm like wtf! They're at the 37, needed to get to the 22, yellow mark, 2nd and 15!
Fun game!
Journey Brown is beast mode 2.0
Best part about this comment is having Sanders in your profile pic
Anyone else see the 2&41? 5:30
Proof that Penn State deserved a higher ranking and a tougher opponent. Either way, proud of my guys
They only won by 2 touchdowns
4:56 lol at that block!
Good eye!! Yowww, that was on #11 Micah Parsons, get the f out! He got clobbbered to say the least, he was working the one guy and the running back put the left shoulder in and down he went with a tug from the other guy, all in 2 seconds.
Penn state should have played Notre dame and Memphis should have played Iowa state
That would have been better... Although Memphis put up a good fight!
memphis can play wit damn neer anybody.
the Match Makers have to make the little 10 look good,,,
I couldn't agree more. We want Notre Dame
@@jimmyhaley727 little 10...😄 yeah rite. oh, u must be SEC or sumthang like that?
6:10 "On a splendid journey. So long room service". Wtf?
Yeah I even googled “so long room service”...I have no clue what he’s talking about.
Maybe it’s a quote from a movie or song or something.
two separate thoughts: "So long! Room service."
I had to listen now, OMG, I can't believe the announcer said that, it totally means nothing, what an a hole! Good ear on your part!
Mark Jones is such a toolbag
Totally. ..I thought it was just me when I heard that live!
12:15 holy...
Cow
Nice to hear that from a Michigan fan haha
That was a real track meet.
I was in the same building that the Memphis football team was staying at for the game and I saw the busses and I think a few players
I hope the bengals get parsons in 2021. Team would be contenders for years to come
@bullybuc Hes at least going to be a first rounder. If penn state didnt have micah Parsons in this game, they would've lost or given up over 50.
@bullybuc hes a GREAT blitzer and above average run stuffer.
@bullybuc I guess...I mean a sack is better to have than a TFL.
Like most people would rather have 15 sacks than 15 TFLs
Micah Parsons is Linebacker U's latest and greatest
This game came down to turnovers and line play. Memphis was in it until the end. Still proud of my tigers.
I didn’t see either of you on the field. “We we we”
FakeAndTrolled 😘😘
ACTUALLY IT CAME DOWN TO WHO PUNCHED IT IN THE ENDZONE AND WHO DIDNT. 6 FG. THEY NEEDED LESS FG AND MORE TD.
Andy Gygi gotta love them haters! Great game though.
Andy Gygi saying “we” and “you” implies that you guys had anything to do with how the teams perform, I guess I’m not surprised hearing it from an OSU fan
Are you going to post the peach bowl and fiesta bowl
This commentator is dope😂
