I’m 32, my grandmother used to play this in her truck every day when she picked me and my sister up from school when we were 5 and 6 years old. We sang it so much my grandmother took us to a recording studio and had us sing over this song and a couple others and she had it recorded onto cassette tapes and eventually put onto a cd. She had the cd played during her funeral and now every time I think of this song I miss my grandma.
Last night I had to take my dad to the ER at 12:30 a.m. After getting checked in, at about 2 a.m. his nurse Emily started singing this song outside of our room, quite well I might add. I was surprised that a young lady who appeared to be in her twenties knew this song by heart. Dad and I both just listened and laughed and forgot why we were there for just a little bit. Thank you Emily and all the nurses who try to put a smile on your face despite what you or even themselves may be going through.
I my mama used to play this when I was a tiny child, preschool. I would dance and drum my hands, it was so happy. I grew up to be a drummer, and I think this beautiful song was part of it
No drums in the backtrack. Actually, Paul came up with the backtrack first and wrote the song afterwards it was so good. Paul found a glitch in a Nabra that pops on recording slapping sounds. So Paul, Art and a few others recording themselves beating the hell out of guitar cases and came up with this.
The song isn't actually about anybody's unfaithful lover. St. Cecelia is the patron saint of music and musicians. Paul Simon composed this around 1970 after coming out of a creative slump he was having.
