Falling in love in the 19th century: A complicated procedure for some. Dynasties, betrothals, and lovers' quarrels on the eve of marriages. All these conspired to make the 19th century an interesting time in which to fall (deeply) in love. With someone. So much depended on the person. In this story, we have two people, just sitting, but so much more is going on in their various psychological states. The man, in the painting, is looking at the woman with a mixture of scrutiny and vague interest. He can't decide for himself whether she is pretty or not, like Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice, he has high standards. Shall this threaten his chances for love? The woman, on the other hand, looks like a much more practical, down-to-earth soul; she is busy making something beautiful with her hands. She likes to work with her hands because they have long been used to this type of labor on behalf of others. Shall she consider the man worthy of her? Who knows...
We'd probably all be workers and we wouldn't have been able to listen to any of this at that time. But that's OK. New suggestion: A playlist for British child workers in a factory in the 19th century.
I’m trying to make playlists of my own (just for fun) and it won’t let me make chapters in the description. I’ve googled it and some people say it has to do with using copyrighted music, others say it’s totally random. If someone could help me out I’d really appreciate it 🙏
