I am a huge chicken. I can't even play a horror game in the daytime without headphones.... but I love Stranger Things. It made me jump a few times (in 4 seasons, it was less than 3) but the storybis gripping, the characters are well written and the actors are really good. You will love it!
Such mixed opinions in the comments! I really want to try it. Maybe I’ll watch with my husband and he can tell me what happens if I have to look away lol.
I am an amigurumi designer who works on crochet kits sometimes. The reason that the yarns don’t match the patterns is because publishers ask us to use our own materials to design the patterns and then they do their best to match the colours we use. However it is a little off to match a cotton yarn with an acrylic yarn, I always try to use an acrylic yarn for my samples if that’s what will be included in the kit. I am loving your videos, they are giving me loads of insight about what to feed back to publishers (not that I get too much say!) Also I’m a big wimp who is obsessed with stranger things. I’d say it’s more dramatic than scary. It never made me jump.
@@TfwcrochetI know!! When I work for magazines I always get sent the yarn to use so it matches, even if it’s yarn that comes as a free gift with the magazine. Not sure why the craft book and kit type publishers are different, but it is a bit of a pain.
I'm currently doing inventory on my yarns while watching. I feel really bad for the people who would buy this. Kits like these attract beginners because they come with everything you need, and you can figure out if you like it or not. But then these companies include the cheapest, most unusable materials, and people think that they're doing something wrong when it doesn't come out exactly like in the box, and maybe even give up on crochet entirely when the problem isn't them, it's the cheap yarn and hooks.
Not to mention a beginner wouldn’t know (or know how) to rewind the yarn out of the hanks to be easier to work with. I’m eight minutes in and already can see a beginner getting frustrated, heck it would probably frustrate me! Three nearly identical colors and no labels?
yay a new video :D i think its weird and a little disingenuous that they don't use the yarn in the box for the sample pictures, considering these kind of kits are the types beginners gravitate towards! they might think they are doing something wrong when it's the yarn.
and regarding the scariness of Stranger Things, it is pretty scary, imo. Although it is all fantasy so that makes it less scary for me personally, but there is a lot of tension and dark themes in general. Weirdly, it gets less scary in later seasons, cause the main bad guy is very fantasy and has that 80's silliness to it.
honestly considering how bad the pattern was and the crappy yarn, I think your Demogorgon turned out really good! I like the pose-able arms and the way the petals look ❤ definitely not worth buying the kit though 😂
Is there a disclaimer in the box that the yarns provided may be different than the yarn provided? I subscribe to a crochet box that has that on the first page of the instruction booklet
I’m knitting a hooded cowl while hanging out with you today. I have never seen an episode of Stranger Things, either, but from what I’ve seen in trailers and such, it feels like it’s giving me x-files vibes but with kids. 😂
I don’t have the kit, but based on what you said, I imagine that the larger hank was meant for the DemiGorgon and the smaller hank was meant for one of the other dolls. I also think they leave them like that because they are more squishable, which means the packaging can be thinner and there is a global push to have less packaging due to environment. I also agree that for beginners that may be very confusing if they don’t know that they need to do something with those hanks. The demigorgon looks correct to me, and you’ll probably agree once you watch the show 😉
I know you aren't the biggest fan of this kit, but I bought this kit after watching the video. I love Stranger Things, I love crochet and I love amigurumi. It's a match made in heaven 😻. I'm so excited to get it. I'm ok with my finished product not looking exactly like the photos because I don't always follow yarn recommendations anyway 🙈. The project I was working on while watching the video was washing laundry 😂
I'm working on a hooded cowl. It's been so cold and windy on the east coast, definitely needed I also picked up a similar kit (pretty sure it's the same publisher/manufacturers who put the kits together) at Costco. Mine was Disney princesses and they also had nightmare before Christmas
Thank you so much for this video! I have been struggling with this kit since i got it and when i looked online to see others experience, there weren't any! I really appreciate you giving your honest review on this kit ESPECIALLY with the instructions which is the part i was struggling the most on.
I got this very same crochet kit as a Christmas gift and I'm so glad my parents gave it to me instead of to my niece who *desperately* wants to be like her older cousin (who crochets like crazy) but has been having a rough time actually learning how to crochet. I plan on using the patterns to figure out other doll designs and just use the yarn for other things.
He’s still cute! I’ve only watched one season of Stranger Things back when it first came out. I don’t know why I didn’t continue it. I’m working on a beanie. I have ripped it apart 4 times trying to get the gauge right. Grrrrr. 5th time’s the charm? lol Great video, as always! 💕
Thanks for trying out the kit. I’m intrigued by them but haven’t bought any yet. I think I’ll just pass them up. I was working on a Sophie scarf while watching.
I was noticing how much similarities there was between this kit and the nightmare before Christmas crochet kit I bought and it’s by the same company so I’m glad someone who is way more experienced than me had the same frustrations as me a beginner 😊
I have bought several of those type kits and I think if you have done even a few crochet projects you are basically just buying it for the patterns and because you like the theme. They are almost a novelty item especially when you consider where all they get sold. I almost always see a similar type crochet kit when at a warehouse store (Sam’s/BJs/Costco). Today I was working on a square for a Vivid blanket that has been a wip for who knows how long.
New Video❤! Yay! I am crocheting a long cape/cloaky Thing with a hood while watching and it's so satisfying, it's all linked double crochets and it looks so nice so far. 1/5 done 😂.
Carla Mitrani, of Crochet Iconic Women, is the designer of the patterns, so I'd expect the patterns to work. The yarn is in hanks because of the packaging and that's going to change 😔 It does suck that there isn't a standard for writing Amigurumi patterns, but because I learned to Crochet way before the internet was invented, I got into the habit of rewriting patterns before I start a project so that I can hopefully work out the difference between 2 sc and sc 2 beforehand (which I needed to do in the Crochet Café book)
I also rewrote the pattern. I am in the habit of reading patterns several times and writing them down in the way that makes sense to me. It’s just how I process.
There have been plenty of patterns where I had to make adjustments so that it turns out right. As for the kit, I would keep the book and toss the yarn. Use your own yarn. The fuzzy parts tells me that the yarn will pill easily. I agree that they should give the same yarn that was used for the examples & they need to label the yarn. I have a few instructions that are written as this kit's. The reasons you listed for why this kit is a thumbs down is why I never risk purchasing these kits.
Wasn’t working on anything today. Did play some monopoly on my iPad while I watched. Did work on two beanies and a crochet hot pad earlier today while talking to my grandson on video chat!
Yippee another video from one of my fave creators! I'm currently working on a big scarf for a friend and am having a lot of fun with the colorwork, also I'll be teaching my boyfriend how to crochet whenever he visits in April so that's super exciting!
Currently working on two hodded scarves (one wool, and one acrylic/wool blend) and both have had a bunch of the added fuzz, especially the wool, I just pick em off as I go lol
My sister bought me a crochet kit for Christmas a handful of years back, when I first started crocheting. It was a starter supply kit, so it came with 24 (my guess, I can’t actually remember how many) small skeins of yarn, plus a whole set of both ergonomic and metal hooks, stitch markers, tapestry needles, and a few other things. The yarn was probably very close to the quality of what this Stranger Things’ kit came with - it also pilled. It wasn’t the best yarn I’ve ever used or felt, but it was yarn that I was grateful to practice with all the same. I made an amigurumi Dobby with it that turned out very cute, so it did the job. I’m sure that someone who just wants to crochet something (as I did back then) would be grateful for this kit and all that it comes with, especially if they had a lack of supplies themselves. Not everyone has the luxury of a yarn stash, definitely not when they’re first getting started in crochet. Sure it’s definitely not a perfect kit by any means, but I would have loved and appreciated it.
I bought the kit months ago because Carla Mitrani wrote the patterns. She’s the author of the Crochet Iconic Women books that are beloved. So I’m surprised of your disappointment. I have not done any of them yet and did not plan on using anything in the kit, it’s never good. I buy for the book. Thanks for this review, you’re so thorough 😊
I can tell it’s designed by a talented designer. But just didn’t vibe with some of the choices. I think with a different yarn though it would have been infinitely better.
Hi Rachel, thank you so much for uploading this video, I really enjoyed watching it❤! As for the project I’m working on: I’m making a rectangular granny square blanket. Super easy and so much fun to make😍. Much love from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
I loved the series stranger lands, it is creepy but not too creepy :) more intense then scary with a good story line ;) and yes I enjoyed watching you make it while I'm making a granny square sweater for my daughter
I would say you should try watching Stranger Things. I don’t have what I call a very good “screen scraper” so am careful about what I watch but I really enjoyed watching Stranger Things. Will say there were a few moments where I watched through my hands over my eyes but it didn’t last long and didn’t stay with me. Admire your patience with the kit and would love to see you do Eleven.
Well that's different! 🙃 Today I'm making a lovey-size baby blanket for a donation to the Ronald McDonald House. I'm using Loops & Threads' Sweet Snuggles polyester yarn and it's sooooo soft. 😊
I would definitely recommend Stranger Things to a non-horror fan; there are no really big jumpscares and overall it feels more like a more family-friendly The Thing or, like someone said in the comments, X-Files with kids. And honestly I'm Canadian and I don't know how much the kits are priced in our currency but 12$US for a pattern book and notions to make two amigurumis sounds like a steal to me 😅 Also I worked on a maple-leaf shaped shawl (I know, I'm a cliché) while watching this video!
I have been waiting for you to try out one of these kits! it was how I learned how to crochet (the stars wars one) and OMG IT SUCKED! Definitely NOT for beginners but I am so stubborn so I persevered and somehow finished the ugliest yoda ever. I have a love hate relationship with these kits because I love the fandoms and patterns but the yarn, materials, and patterns SUCK sometimes. I found mine in the childrens section too so it is very misleading lol. I literally cried so much out of pure frustration when I bought this as a beginner. I have better luck just using my own yarn with the little pattern books now.
Stranger Things *does* have scary imaging, and if monster flicks typically give you nightmares then it might bother you, but I wouldn't call it straight up horror. It's really much closer to a monster movie with just a dash of the horror elements and a little bit of mystery. It does also have some gore and gross stuff here and there.
I'm not a big horror fan and tend to be a bit chicken, but I loved Stranger Things. I'm sure part of it is I am GenX, and it brings back so many memories. It takes about 3 episodes to fully get immersed in the story.
I was working on a green stegosaurus. Since I'm finishing off a bag in my Battle of the Scrap Bags, he may end up with five different color spikes on his back! 😂
18:50 Funny enough, depending on where you are, skein and hank are synonyms. I tend to refer to the "loose loops" of yarn as skeins, and refer to the common factory put up as a "pull skein". But I definitely think that's regional. I've never watched the show, but I think the resulting creature is really cool looking. Definitely the kind of weirdo you'd expect from a show called "stranger things" lol I feel like one of the big reasons for using a hank is that they squish down a lot easier and you can fit more into a smaller box. I dunno for sure if that's why they do it, but it's definitely a factor why I store my hand spun that way if I'm not planning to use it right away. I have no idea how people are learning these days, but I learned to knit and crochet from books back in the early 00s and I feel like every learn to knit book I read back then had at least a brief description of different yarn put ups and how you usually need to wind a hank/skein into a ball. Maybe that's not as common when you learn from Internet videos though. $20 or $12 for a book of patterns isn't terrible. It's more than I'd want to spend on this kit since I'm not much of a kit person and not a stranger things fan. But I've definitely spent that much on a pattern book before. Spent the video knitting on my chaos sweater (aka all the random single balls of craft store acrylic, in an to use stuff up lol)
I am. Chicken with horror and I love stranger things. It is more fantasy thriller with some scary stuff. There is a lot of build up and atmosphere. Me and my husband have to watch it together. The first couple of episodes are always the scariest and then you focus more on the story and enjoy it.
My kids and I love stranger things. It is a bit of a thriller, but not horror. As for the price of the kit, you're getting 12 licenced character patterns. Even if it came with nothing but the pattern book, you're saving at least thirty six dollars, figuring $5 for a cheap licenced character pattern. They can go a lot higher. I'm heading to my nearest Walmart right now to find it!
I was working on a bowl of homemade Thom Kha Gai lol. Ive tried watching Stranger Things but got bored part way through episode 2. I didn’t find it scary though. If you watch it, I hope you enjoy it. Now back to knitting a crescent-shaped wrap 🙂
I cannot STAND jump scares, and was very hesitant on the show for a while, but decided to watch it and fell in love. There are very few jump scares, there's a lot more build up and suspense where you'd expect a jump where there isn't one lol I found it helps to just turn the volume a bit lower than I usually have it and use subtitles haha It DOES have a bit of gore/gross stuff, but not unbearably so. I definitely would say to give it a try, as it's written and made very well. It's a favourite of mine, I can't get enough of the 80s aesthetic lol
I might have to look into the set if it’s a similar price here in the UK. I have the Crochet Iconic Ladies books and love her pattern style, I agree with you though if the yarn isn’t great in the pack I probably wouldn’t use it. And as for projects I’m working on, I’ve just finished making a jumper for my husband. I had no pattern other than him asking for cables. Happy with how it turned out :)
I have a few of these kits, I have Nightmare before Christmas, Rudolph the Red nose Reindeer, and I still to make the characters I want to make. I’m having trouble understanding the patterns.
I will say in terms of scariness level of Stranger Things I did find they did increase the horror level more in the most recent season compared to the others. Not to the level of something like a full on R+ rated movie but noticeably more graphic and spooky in comparison.
Woof the yarn in this kit would be a deal breaker, not only do they not give you the yarn used in the pattern photos i find it insane that they dont even label the yarn they do give you AND the fact its in hanks?!? Even a lot of seasoned crocheters may not have a yarn ball winder or swift so what exactly does the kit expect people to do with the yarn? Does it even say how to wind it or anything?
The pattern book is by the same designer as Crochet Iconic Women, I have 3 books by her because I love how cute the dolls are. However this crochet kit is 30euros where I am, so it's a no from me, the yarn provided would go straight in the bin, because like the designer I enjoy me some Hobbii cotton yarn xD
Hobbii cotton is infinitely better! I’m curious if she went in more detail in that book? Because the designs really are cute though the tiny arms made me want to cry.
I would call it gory more than scary. Lots of graphic bloody imagery. Really interesting story set in the 80s, but if you don’t like gross bloody things you probably won’t enjoy Stranger Things. That’s not all it is but there is a LOT of it. I loved it.
This seems like a nightmare before Christmas kit my friend got. The instructions were weird with increases. And that book told you they used a different yarn AND hook size than what they provided in the kit. It was so aggravating. The kit yarn was soooo stiff and scratchy, almost crunchy
I think you’d be able for stranger things … if you want to feel transported back to the 80s and like supernatural themed stuff - actually that’s a good way to put it - if you watched supernatural the tv series youd be well able for stranger things - it’s more weird/strange than scary , great show ❤
I watched the first season of that show and honestly it was sometimes a little tense for me. I’m such a baby! Weirdly enough I can watch true crime but anything like this freaks me out lol
I cut it out for time but I did mention pliers but my husband left them out in the rain and they rusted 😫. I usually make him do this kind of thing for me lol.
Stranger things isn’t too scary. There’s some spots that are, like the demogorgon. Ive only watched until season 2, and a bit of season three but like two episodes of it.
Thank you for sharing. I not familiar with stranger things, but that is strange.😂 I am working on a shawl, “Love of my Life” pattern by Crystal of Bag o Day.
I was 9 when I went to see The Terminator with my parents. It gave me nightmares. I actually blocked out the movie because it was so traumatizing. I think that's why I liked Terminator Genisys...I couldn't remember the first one. I decided to re-watch the first one in my 40s. I saw T2 on TV, when it went to tv, because I thought it wouldn't be scary on TV. Turned out it wasn't scary, just violent. I now love the Terminator lore. But, I am a very sensitive person.
I hate jumpscares and absolutely avoid movies and shows with jumpscares (or else look up at what exact time they'll be), but I love Stranger Things! The latest season is definitely the creepiest, but everything before that is pretty tame :)
We don’t get a lot of snow here but it did a few days ago. It shuts down the town around here. So sorry about your beagle! I hope she’s healing up okay.
15:48 my husband is not a fan of scary stuff. Just talking about it can give him nightmares and he refuses to watch anything even remotely scary with me. He loves Stranger Things. We binged the first 3 seasons together.
It’s unfortunate you had a bad experience with this kit. Carla is one of my favourite crochet amigurumi designers. In fact her Vincent Van Gogh doll is my favourite crochet make ever. Sounds like the yarn is the biggest drawback with this kit. Her patterns really shine in cotton (and she is the reason for my large cotton stash 😂). These kits always seem like they have the potential to be good and then are put together with the cheapest materials. It makes for such a negative experience.
Other people are singing her praises as well. I could tell this was made by a talented designer but the yarn made it turn out so gangly and strange. I have got to try some of these patterns in cotton!
I looove stranger things but it does have some jump scares and gore. The jumps aren’t terrible at all, maybe one every other season? I’d say it’s worth watching but don’t be embarrassed if you have to look away at some parts!
Stranger things is like tv scary. I hate horror movies because I have nightmares but stranger things is fine. It does have scary moments but they aren’t too bad and it very balanced with an interesting story. Onto the kit, I bought the nightmare before Christmas kit from this same maker and I’m so scared to try it. I was hoping this video would give me the confidence to try it and alas it did not. I mostly make wearables so figures scare the crap out of me. Good video, happy new year!
I recently did the Red Heart Advent Calendar Kit and that hook was so bendy as well. Sadly, I dont think I have ever been able to use a hook that came in a kit before because they are always so so so bendy.
I have a few of these kits but I refuse to use the yarn that comes with it. I just buy the kits for the book and stuffing. So, if you make 11 I highly suggest you use your favorite plushie yarn and use the pattern. Obviously the plushes will be bigger but it should be more enjoyable to make.
I’m working on a kitten loaf cat amigurumi by AnnieCarrawayArt! First time switching colors so it looks weird and progress is slow but somehow it still looks cute
Oh I also hate cutting wire with scissors! I hope you weren’t using your good crafting scissors, though, as cutting hard/rough materials can wear them out. I’m a professional seamster, and I always have one pair of shears for my fabric and one pair for everything else. Wire cutters are the best for wire, though! It’s in the name for a reason! 😅 Also I was working on a cross stitch project while watching this 🪡
I don't like scarey at all it has to be daylight out but I do light thriller zombie type shows/movies and I feel it's like that there is story line with some sorta scarey thing in the show there are some parts that startled me but the acting is really good and the story line is interesting and it's something me and my children can watch together my 8 year old I feel is a little young but he says he's fine and likes it I'm 13 year old and 16 year old are obsessed if this helps I would just try watching it during the day and see if u like it....this kit looks interesting but I feel it should be geared towards all levels of crocheters
I’ve never watched Stranger Things, but my oldest son (21) watched it with some of my younger kids (12 & 9), and they all liked it. But I’m with you on the Wicked obsession right now! I saw it 3 times in theaters and we bought it the day it was released on Fandango at Home. I show it to anyone who will watch it with me! Do you have a pattern (or pattern link) for your headband? ETA: I worked on a sweater (design by Briana K Designs) while I watched today.
My kids are obsessed right now. I’m having such a hard time not spoiling things from part 2. Hehe. The headband is a pattern from the blog My Poppet Makes. It’s basically 4 granny squares sewed together in such a way to create the hand and shape. I used Keche 100% cotton.
I think it's a great replica of the example pattern. And I believe amigurumi is not for beginners anyway. So any kit should start at intermediate at the least. Thanks for the video.
@LilacGeese the 2.0 is the same exact green as the 2.25, the 2.5 is the same exact yellow as the 2.75, and the 3.0 is the same exact red as the 3.25. This is the only thing that annoys me because I have all of my hooks in a roll up case I made so having duplicates of just three of the colors but not the other 7 irritates me lol
I get kits like these just for the patterns and then use the supplies I like, generally a super bulky size yarn. The supplies they come with are generally so awful to work with.
OMG thank you for this!! i’ve been looking for a video about this kit, i bought it and some of the steps of the patterns are so confusing and I thought I was just bad at reading patterns. I really don’t like the yarn or the hook and i honestly don’t think they’ve included enough for some of the colors. i’ve been working on Eleven but i’ve had to put her down so many times because it’s so frustrating. I kind of want to frog her and start over with my own yarn. ALSO: for the human characters’ heads, you have to join the yarn to the finished neck and crochet the head from there. does anyone know of a tutorial on how to do this? I feel like i’m doing something wrong each time i try and it makes me want to just make the head separately and sew it.
You mentioned vocal fry in your last video. I was watching Mia Maples yesterday- she’s a big time RUclipsr and her vocal fry is constant. I wouldn’t worry about it!
@@faithdockendorff4747 I’m sorry. Good luck around here! I obviously understand about sensory issues as evidence by this video so if you can’t stick around I get it!
Thank you! It’s from my poppet makes blog. But it’s basically 4 granny squares you sew together into a headband. Super easy and I’m obsessed with it! The yarn is Keche 100% cotton if you’re wondering as well
I love Stranger Things, but it is definitely nightmare fuel. I wish I could say otherwise because it is brilliantly written/created/acted; however imho it is a story about a living nightmare. I’ve had my fair share of uncomfortable dreams after binge watching it. The jump scares are fairly limited.
My preference for horror is on the campy side, like goosebumps or hocus pocus. I definitely don't watch anything with gore. I watched the first 2 seasons of stranger things but then lost interest. I would like to see a video that explains how to size up amigurumi patterns. I started a kit, but it's in timeout because there are like 6 sc for a leg. It felt really tight to me.
Honestly it’s just vibes for me lol. I play with promotions all the time when designing but just adding some increases in there won’t usually effect the shape unless it’s more complex
season 1 and 2 of stranger things is so good but i kinda fell off after that cos they were taking so long to put the eps out and i hear the series kinda went down after that. but definitely season 1 is a very good watch! *edit: i don't like horror or gore either but i liked stranger things so i personally don't think it's scary or gross. it's more just supernatural for the most part. also, the CEO of squishmallows is an adamant supporter of the genocide in Gaza. buying from them is providing them more funds to send towards the terrorism of the Gazan people. the same person who made this kit also made a kit of dragons that me and my partner found at barnes and noble when i visited! i've been working on one of the cute dragons from it. if u need to find more kits to test (cos i love seeing all the different ones u've been able to find) barnes and noble had a TON in their like kit section. *edit: i will say, since this is the same person that i'm using a dragon pattern from, they really do like to elongate things WAY more than they need to be. i cut out like 5 rows from the dragon head/body cos it was just excessive so the criticism of it being too long it very valid. there were a few other parts i took out rows from cos i just didn't like how it was looking so it makes me wonder how human made this was or if they just didn't care enough to refine the pattern. also also, i think they put them in hanks or blobs (not workable balls or skeins/cakes) is bc they're either lazy and don't wanna take that extra time to make it easier on the customer or they don't know that hanks aren't workable while crocheting.
So personally I would not recommend watching the show only because the controversies of the main actor (he plays the character of will) promoting vandalism and violence after the release of the latest season which is unrelated to the show but still goes against morals for me. But the show i think is pretty scary and as the years go on and the kids grow up the show progressively gets more intense and pretty gorey and shows more violent things but other than that the first season is still intense but more scary in the sense of the unknown. Hopefully this helps because I personally relate to the nightmares and so I had to watch the show outside in broad daylight or else I would have the same problem of nightmares lol
I feel like the potential of this kit is wasted on it being a kit instead of just a book, if nothing else bc I feel intermediate crocheters (with their own hooks and yarn stashes) are less likely to pick up a kit. This is made even worse by the fact they didn't even make the samples out of the kit yarn, so there are no doubt going to be people upset their project doesn't 'look right'. Plus, if they'd done just a book, they could take the money they saved NOT making a kit to add a few more pages to the patterns that needed more detailed explanations. Just overall very poor decisions made by this company. EDIT: Oh yeah I was working on a cowl during this video. Nearly halfway done, then need to get back to amigurumi.
It might be a bit scary for you. I love the whole 80’s aspect to it, but it got to be a little bit scary to me. I had to take a break. I will continue it later. The show is worth it.
Also, Stranger Things is not scary. It does have its moments of intensity, but overall, not scary. I’m not a fan of scary stuff either, so if it had been, I wouldn’t have continued to watch it.
Feels kind of disingenuous to have the pictures made with a yarn that is not included in the kit. Acrylic and cotton are both great fibers for amigurumi but the look of the stitches is so different with the cotton being a 'cleaner' stitch because the yarn doesn't fuzz as much as acrylic can.

I am loving your videos, they are giving me loads of insight about what to feed back to publishers (not that I get too much say!)
Also I’m a big wimp who is obsessed with stranger things. I’d say it’s more dramatic than scary. It never made me jump.
I’m glad my videos are helpful. I wish that they had you use the same yarn that’s in the kits. It just always turns out differently otherwise 😫
@@TfwcrochetI know!! When I work for magazines I always get sent the yarn to use so it matches, even if it’s yarn that comes as a free gift with the magazine. Not sure why the craft book and kit type publishers are different, but it is a bit of a pain.

Three nearly identical colors and no labels?
yay a new video :D
i think its weird and a little disingenuous that they don't use the yarn in the box for the sample pictures, considering these kind of kits are the types beginners gravitate towards! they might think they are doing something wrong when it's the yarn.

honestly considering how bad the pattern was and the crappy yarn, I think your Demogorgon turned out really good! I like the pose-able arms and the way the petals look ❤ definitely not worth buying the kit though 😂
I feel like he looks better on camera than in person but still much more gangly than the sample.
Is there a disclaimer in the box that the yarns provided may be different than the yarn provided? I subscribe to a crochet box that has that on the first page of the instruction booklet
Usually hanks put a lot less pressure on the yarn so it can last longer, since the manufacturer doesn't know how long it will remain on the shelves.
I love your Wicked headband. So precious!
He came out super cute in the end
I did find Stranger Things scary but it is my favorite show of all time. It’s amazing. I cry, I laugh, all the things, best show ever. ❤❤❤❤
Hey that’s why I wanted to start adding a “who do I recommend this to” section because I know some people will enjoy it.
I'm working on a hooded cowl. It's been so cold and windy on the east coast, definitely needed
I also picked up a similar kit (pretty sure it's the same publisher/manufacturers who put the kits together) at Costco.
Sorry you’ve been struggling! Yeah they’re not the most detailed. 😫
He turned out so cute
I got this very same crochet kit as a Christmas gift and I'm so glad my parents gave it to me instead of to my niece who *desperately* wants to be like her older cousin (who crochets like crazy) but has been having a rough time actually learning how to crochet. I plan on using the patterns to figure out other doll designs and just use the yarn for other things.
He’s still cute! I’ve only watched one season of Stranger Things back when it first came out. I don’t know why I didn’t continue it.
I’m working on a beanie. I have ripped it apart 4 times trying to get the gauge right. Grrrrr. 5th time’s the charm? lol
Great video, as always!
That one was right next to this one at the store! Definitely not just you!
1/5 done 😂.
Ooo sounds nice! I want to make something hooded eventually.
Rewriting the patterns does make sense. I feel like it takes me a minute for my brain to transfer over but then it clicks.
I also rewrote the pattern. I am in the habit of reading patterns several times and writing them down in the way that makes sense to me. It’s just how I process.
Hate the yarn but love the patterns included. My husband got me a star wars one!
I started on the marvel one and I am so surprised I stuck with it. I like angrily finished my first project because it was so complicated haha
I have also never watched Stranger Things. I do like the dolls, though. I was working on a baby axolotl while I watched.
I love the setting! That’s a huge reason I want to watch it.
i don't like scary stuff either, but stranger things is pretty good, def best to listen to tbh cuz there are alot of jump scares!
Definitely the kind of weirdo you'd expect from a show called "stranger things" lol
I feel like one of the big reasons for using a hank is that they squish down a lot easier and you can fit more into a smaller box.
I would be more okay with it if they did have an explanation of how to roll up the hank but since they don’t I KNOW people are getting frustrated.
I made a scrunchie while watching!
I cannot STAND jump scares, and was very hesitant on the show for a while, but decided to watch it and fell in love. There are very few jump scares, there's a lot more build up and suspense where you'd expect a jump where there isn't one lol I found it helps to just turn the volume a bit lower than I usually have it and use subtitles haha
It DOES have a bit of gore/gross stuff, but not unbearably so.
Oh no I’m sorry! I do think they’re written a little funky.
Nothing about that at all. I just work it into a ball. I have a yarn winder but not a swift (which I probably need to get)
The pattern book is by the same designer as Crochet Iconic Women, I have 3 books by her because I love how cute the dolls are.
I think you'd like Stranger Things. Personally, I don't think it's scary at all, just suspenseful. The demogorgon turned out pretty good!
I think you’d be able for stranger things … if you want to feel transported back to the 80s and like supernatural themed stuff - actually that’s a good way to put it - if you watched supernatural the tv series youd be well able for stranger things - it’s more weird/strange than scary , great show ❤
Disclaimer though if you like it you might end up going on a few day binge watch 😬
I watched the first season of that show and honestly it was sometimes a little tense for me. I’m such a baby! Weirdly enough I can watch true crime but anything like this freaks me out lol
Pliers for wire cutting are so much better for cutting wire if you can get them. It just makes a normal snapping sound, no awful metal on metal noise
I not familiar with stranger things, but that is strange.😂
I am working on a shawl, “Love of my Life” pattern by Crystal of Bag o Day.
I working on the 6 day star blanket
The latest season is definitely the creepiest, but everything before that is pretty tame :)
so jealous of your dog walk lol. im from Canada and we have so much snow 😭 and ice!!! my poor beagle slipped and hurt her leg
Good to know! I think I might convince my husband to watch with me.
maybe you could try the Grimm series :) it has an interesting spin on nursery tales and some folktales like Krampus and La Lorna.
Oh no I’m sorry! Maybe just use the pattern and make them with yarn you already know you like?
if you have not tried toys yet, it might be a better idea to find a free jack or sally pattern on Ravelry and try it with really cheap yarn.
I’m making the Stranger Things pillow kit from Lion Brand.
I recently did the Red Heart Advent Calendar Kit and that hook was so bendy as well. Sadly, I dont think I have ever been able to use a hook that came in a kit before because they are always so so so bendy.
I get scared easily to but I actually do love stranger things. You should try it and see how it goes..
🖤 beanieeee
Oh I also hate cutting wire with scissors! I hope you weren’t using your good crafting scissors, though, as cutting hard/rough materials can wear them out. I’m a professional seamster, and I always have one pair of shears for my fabric and one pair for everything else. Wire cutters are the best for wire, though! It’s in the name for a reason! 😅
Also I was working on a cross stitch project while watching this 🪡
I don't like scarey at all it has to be daylight out but I do light thriller zombie type shows/movies and I feel it's like that there is story line with some sorta scarey thing in the show there are some parts that startled me but the acting is really good and the story line is interesting and it's something me and my children can watch together my 8 year old I feel is a little young but he says he's fine and likes it I'm 13 year old and 16 year old are obsessed if this helps I would just try watching it during the day and see if u like it....this kit looks interesting but I feel it should be geared towards all levels of crocheters
I don’t like horror films, but I enjoyed Stranger Things. My granddaughter loves it.
It looks better on camera which is frustrating. Mostly just more gangly which I don’t like.
It looks very similar to a Harry Potter kit I got last Christmas.
Just so you know Clover does make a 2mm, 2.5mm, and a 3mm they just don’t come in the normal set
Can confirm. The 2.0 is a nice green colour and the 3mm is red. I don''t think I own the 2.5mm.
I watch her videos and never thought once about her voice. I guess it’s just not something I think about! But I know some people are sensitive to it.
Vocal fry is my fingers down the chalkboard .
@@faithdockendorff4747 I’m sorry. Good luck around here! I obviously understand about sensory issues as evidence by this video so if you can’t stick around I get it!
@@TfwcrochetI love your videos! It’s a ME problem!
I suspect having the yarn like that is to save space.
It looks very compact.
I didn’t think of that! That could be a reason.
Is there a pattern for that pink & green headband? It’s gorg!
Thank you! It’s from my poppet makes blog. But it’s basically 4 granny squares you sew together into a headband. Super easy and I’m obsessed with it! The yarn is Keche 100% cotton if you’re wondering as well
nooooo dont call him ugly, pigeon toed demigorgon is cute, lookit his lil hands!
Lol the hands are cute and I think he looks better on camera honestly. In person he looks gangly and off 😫
I worked on an amigurumi: thomas the Tiger from Jess Huffs free pattern site :3
HELLOOOOO :D have a good day or nighttt!!!
Omg was this what i recommended??? I started learning to crochet on the marvel kit and it was a nightmare
I can’t imagine learning with one of these!
I don’t like scary things so it is a bit scary but I managed it. Defo not jump scary more psychologically if that makes sense?
season 1 and 2 of stranger things is so good but i kinda fell off after that cos they were taking so long to put the eps out and i hear the series kinda went down after that. but definitely season 1 is a very good watch!
It’s not SUPER scary it has a couple moments but really it’s just a bit creepy lol.
I despise HANKS 😭😭 they’re so hard to unwind especially if you don’t have those tools to unwind it
I feel like the potential of this kit is wasted on it being a kit instead of just a book, if nothing else bc I feel intermediate crocheters (with their own hooks and yarn stashes) are less likely to pick up a kit.
Hanks are cheaper for the manufacturer. It's absolutely about profits.
Makes sense 😫
