What grinds my gears the most about VH's involvement is Amara. She's a siren and literally everyone acts like she isn't there. Sirens were a central point to this game's story, and probably, amara was the strongest among them. But hey, we had to develop Ava

I agree with the cut scene even said it to my friend when scenes like Mayas death came around saying things like "what are we doing right now jerking off in the corner why don't we just shot at them or stop them from doing it" like if we are there at least give a reason why we as a character can not intervein like a perfect example of this is when the loader takes Rowland in BL2 we physically could not help him behind the bars lead us to have to chase the loader

  • @keenanrobinson4938
    @keenanrobinson4938 3 года назад

I agree that mayhem could be done better, the modifiers can be frustrating. But I definitely believe a way to scale the difficulty is so important. During playthrough 1, especially coop, you just wreck too hard and the game length just becomes tedious. Large health pools with bosses just disappear too quickly. What I love about Borderlands 3 is that the bosses do some interesting mechanics, think of Katagawa and Agonizer. But before mayhem mode the game feels to easy, especially for veteran borderlands and FPS fans like myself. Mayhem is a welcomed sight, but it would be great to add it from the start and yeah, maybe be able to disable the modifiers. Modifiers can be fun to muck around with when playing with your friends, especially those who are casual about this game.
Gunplay I still think this game nailed it compared to the other entries. Sliding and slamming and snappy aiming, I like it better. Though I am sure people would disagree.
I just think anointment detract from skills and skill trees too hard. The power should come from the vault hunter and affinity with the weapons and gear itself, not based on appointments.

I made a reddit post that a lot of people agreed about for the cutscene thing.. it really is one of the most annoying things in BL3..
Anyway, the part where Lilith loses her powers, that cutscene happens *immediately* after the garage door thing shuts on us and she gets ambushed. We are separated from her and frantically moving around the ship's building facility to get to that other side. By the time we get to her, Tyreen already summoned her followers there and left the scene, and Lilith already lost her powers.
Lilith even chokes on her last words as a siren calling out to us telepathically while we are running to save her.
So that is fairly excusable serious cutscene where we couldn't do much within. (I'm not sure why this scene is one of the biggest arguments, because its really clear we are separated from her during that scene.)
*Spoilers* (Even though you really shouldn't be here unless you've finished the game)
HOWEVER, My argument for the cutscene thing, is, right after we kill Troy, Tyreen take's his powers and goes power trip mode and lasers us and throws rocks at us. (but very confusingly, the Vault Hunter just doesn't exist in that scene despite literally just killing Troy, Tyreen pays NO MIND to the Vault Hunter who just KILLED her brother. We just, _pop out of existence._
Wouldn't she right then and there just do her absolute best out of rage/just getting us out of the way so we don't ruin her plans? Apparently not, she just forgets we are a thing, and aims for Lilith, Ava, and Patricia. Then when she does her cringy botcam sign off thing and leaves, we just _pop back into existence._
^^^^ That is what really urged the thought for me, and made me super unimmersed in the storyline.

The fundamental problem is that they created a more impactful version of prefixes, but instead of each weapon having 5-8 possible anointments there are like dozens and most of them are worthless. It’s just another source of damage, except unlike prefixes there’s zero trade off so endgame is balanced heavily around perfect anoints.

Realistically though, what would adding more vault hunters do, besides more gameplay. As stated in the video, the 4 base vault hunters are barely in the game story-wise. In borderlands 2, they at least had dlc where they mentioned the other vault hunters, I.e the Son of Crawmerax and the attempted assassinations, including unique dialogue for each character In response to their respective assassins. And all of this is in a side quest for a 3-5 hour MAX dlc, which in total ( at least as far as I can remember ) is more than what they did for the 4 main vault hunters In borderlands 3. So if they can do that in a headhunter pack, then gearbox have no excuse for what they did in bl3.

I think the Pre-sequel did the whole “make your vaulthunter feel apart of the story” the best despite Jack’s arc being the main focus. I think this is purely because everything that happened in each scene was something that your character wouldn’t have been able to stop no matter which character you took. Or at the very least restrained your character. Additionally, certain story aspects had signature responses to what your character said. While in the grand scheme of things, the responses did not change anything about the story, it did make it feel like your character was actually there rather than you speaking and then the NPC replying with the same lines they would have for every character. Love or hate the Pre-sequel, you have to admit it did a lotta good things with its characters.

The main reason why BL2 felt so fluid was the lack of actual cutscenes, many of them were in game and so made us FEEL as a part of the story. You could go refill ammo, buy/sell weapons, eroding upgrades accept side quests all the while the “cutscene” is playing at the same time and doesn’t throw you out of the story. The only times cutscenes that were used was for the crucial moments; rolands death or the end of the game. I wouldn’t count the intro scenes as “crucial” but they are awesome for setting/hyping up the boss fight.
The problem with the cutscenes in BL3 is that there are wayy too many of them that it blots the game. You spend so long not actually playing the game, and the few times that they use in game cutscenes it feels worthless there is very little expression going on otherwise.
Just to add, I thought a cool way to do mayhem levels would have been to run a gauntlet in order to progress from Mayhem 1 to Mayhem 2. Ie a small wave defence/gauntlet followed by a mini boss and this would get increasingly harder until you get to Mayhem 10 and to complete the Mayhem (get to M11) you had to defeat each of the min bosses in turn to advance and “finish” a character. BL2 may have had a tedious and lengthy end game but atleast it felt SUPER worthwhile finishing it

I understand it's nature for girls around Ava's age to not listen to adults that much but imagine if she actually stayed up in Sanctuary Maya could have had a chance to fight back but we'll never know. I mean if the cutscenes were real time where were we at? The cutscene started as we exited the vault so surely we would have been there.
I would have liked it much better if Maya was still alive and they killed Lilith off and allowed Ava to have just a portion of Lilith's powers since in my opinion Ava looked up more to Lilith than she did Maya. Sure she left and shielded us from Elpis but they said they were only giving her break and that she'll be back, I for one hope that she is gone for good. Funny enough I just returned to BL3 and just started fresh with the Beastmaster class and having fun with the class. And coming back, I remember a few things that still bugged me, and one of those you have listed, the vault hunters not in the main game cutscenes. That is still one thing that still bugs me, we just stay on the sidelines and we just watch what happens. It just seems we were just incapacitated off screen and we just couldn't make it in time, the Tyreen taking Lilith's powers made sense the door closed on us but the death of Maya was the one that just didn't make sense. We just walked up to them talking and then POOF we just disappeared. I think if the cutscene played out where we're there, the death of Maya might of hit more hard for us, the fact we tried to do something, if that makes sense. I can't talk about end game too much, cause I stopped for a while after beating the main game but I remember thinking that the endgame for BL3 was better than the other games but it seems the endgame was a little limited in a way. I don't know I'll have to try and stick to the endgame content to see the flaws I missed. Kinda funny timing how we came back to BL3 at the same time. Good video by the way!

I was literally just talking about this with my friends. We made a list of our own with all the world problems we were able to think of and got to 14. Not even including the gameplay elements that feel off putting.
All the points you make are valid, ESPECIALLY Aurelia being teased as an ally only to be made cartoonishly evil. The cutscene thing is also super annoying.
The lack of previous vault hunters involving themselves in the story or even CARING about what’s happened to their friends (can’t believe Zer0 had NOTHING to say about Maya), the lack of an explanation of lore in the base game (like what lottery system chooses the next siren, what happened to Rhys & Fiona at the end of Tales, etc.) just tear this game down from being even close to a 10/10. There’s way too many inconsistent aspects both story & gameplay wise for me to turn a blind eye.

And those are just a few examples.

Heck even Bounty Hunter could maybe actually boost the kill skills that it promotes (aside from most dangerous game). The amount of points these skills get in a normal roll (1-2) doesn’t feel impactful enough to not invest in the skill anyway if you really cared for the skill in your build unlike BL2.

As for your other point. What I meant by different playstyles is that I would find a COM in BL2 and specifically go back to sanctuary to respec so I can try it out. Or at least CONSIDER it. I wouldn’t even have to fully investing in the skills, since one point is more than enough to feel the impact of all the amazing skills since your COM grants them +4 to +6. I've always felt that way about the vault hunters, that in the games you play them, they're just avatars and not characters, only for the next game to flesh them out, and that's a frustrating way to tell stories especially when YOUR FUCKING MAIN is killed just a few hours into Borderlands 3. At least Roland's death had some meaning, and you got to know him through more than half the game. I have no problem with writers killing off characters, but she barely had time to be one. Maya was shortchanged as a character in favor of shoehorning in some siren lore, and that turned me off on the game. And to the point of playable vault hunters meaning nothing to the stories, I mained Amara (I've always mained the sirens in the series), and I kept waiting for Tyreen to go after her and try to suck out her powers or to at least explain why she doesn't, but (I assume, as I gave up halfway through) she never does. That's bad storytelling--maybe, with the plot focused on sucking out the powers of sirens, we shouldn't have been able to play as one, but then again, why not give Amara some unique sequences where she has to fight off Tyreen while the other vault hunters have to protect her. Would that have been so hard to do?

While i do love some of the characters
Clay, Wainright, The B-Team, Rhys, Lorelei (Though she could still use some work), and a few others
How they handled the main plot ruined a good part of the game for me
I still love playing the game, it's fun as hell, but All 4 Main DLCs have better stories then the Main Game's!
There was so much they could have done with each planet, with the story, with making the Villains actually likeable and not just annoying dickbags who are overly "Hip & Young"
But it feels like that whoever was in charge of the Story, didn't give a shit, while the person in charge of Gameplay did

The nerfing of legendary drop rates, you already mentioned that the anointments need to be either rerolled or refarmed, but the weapon has to drop before you can even consider those options.
RNG aside, it's incredibly difficult to get a legendary drop in some cases, particularly in Arms Race.

I'm specifically going after the Plasma Coil, I grabbed pretty much everything before the nerf.
It's not only there, I've been refarming instead of rerolling anointments and having to try over 50 times for an item, only to an non anointed version when it does drop, multiple times!
I feel that the real reason for lowering the drop rates is because they want us to keep playing until the Tina content drops, I started 3 months ago, but I'd assume most people started last year and have mostly moved on.

    The parts I don't like about BL3:
    - How frequently legendaries drop compared to BL2
    - How they handle the story in general. (Maya, Ava, no mention of the guardian from P-S)
    - A lot of things from BL2 I thought would transition into BL3, haven't yet. (Pearls, UVHM)
    - (Bit nit-picky but...) I wasn't a big fan of Moze's Green tree.

    • @maksymisaiev1828
      @maksymisaiev1828 3 года назад

While pearls I can understand (raid boss unique loot), the UVHM part has no place in BL3. You don't have slag anymore and radioactivity is about spreading and damage ignorance, not damage increase. We have cryo, but it should be for explosions, while in BL3 explosions is not element, but the effect. UVHM will not give anything to the game, really. Unless radiation would just be strong melt point dealing like true damage (counting that enemies can have 3 life levels), UVHM would just have no space.

@@toddhammond1953 there are builds, who can do the same in borderlands 2 on OP10. UVHM does not solve this problem. But even compared to BL2, there are more frequent immune phases for bosses in BL3 (in BL2 I remember like 5-10 bosses with DLCs where immune phase had a place). What made UVHM as a new playground for BL2 and TPS:
Increased Slag\Cryo damage. While cryo is useful all over the TPS game, slag in BL2 just good debuff before UVHM. You literally don't need slag until you reach UVHM.
Reduce usage of fire weapon. While non-element\explosive still may be useful and didn't receive big changes, fire weapon was substituted by slag in UVHM, because most monster or shielded, or armored or both.
More choices for weapons. While pearl weapons can be received in TVHM, not all of them are reachable because of pearl drop rate. So UVHM has a fix for its complexity by proposing annoints.
What of this can be used in the term of the BL3:
BL3 has literally no element which provides benefits for enemy killing (Cryo is not big one deal, as we are not in space anymore, so not everything is easy freezable and no explosion for mega damage as well)
All elements are balanced, as there are no profit to use only one element in general (there are exceptions, but they mostly builds specific). We still need shock, corrosive and fire to kill all staff, as simple guys are mostly flesh, but tough guys have many layers of defense for different elements.
Annoints partially solve the issue with pearl-like weapons.
So UVHM doesn't give any benefits from the current game perspective.

Like a fire weapon flamethrower with a fire grenade and a firmens suit shield that makes fire damage with this set fun and very unique. You would(nt)* be able to kill robots or heavily shielded things with it but flesh burns fast. It is unique, powerful, fun, rare. The possibilities are abound.

Like all the non legendary class mods are completely useless for end game and most of the legendary class mods are medicore and require specific anointments to be good. Borderlands 3 is a lot more flawed than people realize.

Whoever wrote aurelia into this mess of a story didn't have the slightest clue what she was.
Wanting to patch things up with her brother held back by pride became just wanting to mess with him.
Leaving the luxury of riches for danger and hunting a vault became obsession over money and calling vault hunters whores.
"Piss off jack" became allying with the twins. And becoming almost a lackey for them whilst being a "master" before.
She doesn't even use a sniper, its almost as if they confused her with nisha.
In fact, believing that she took a page out of jacks book and made a doppelganger to dodge the heat of tps events (she is rich enough to afford it) probably yvette from tales, makes much much more sense than this version actually being her.
The double got screwed over in the deal or wants out explains the hate towards vault hunters, hammerlocks and many other things. That is my personal head cannon and i don't care what GBX intended.

    @squidcaps4308 Год назад +2

By far the most awful thing about BL3 are the extraordinarily long expositions, listening someone talk so we can advance. The best example is early in the game. You are waiting for Lilith to stop watching TV so she can open the door for you. You have NOTHING else to do but to wait.. for a SIREN to stop watching TV.. That is insane game design decision.. You can't go anywhere, there is nothing to loot.. you just stand there and at 2nd play thru you are running against the door saying "let me out, let me out, let me out!".
The unskippable dialogue that prevents you from progressing is by far the worst thing, it is special how much it makes you HATE THE STORY, cause the story is in your way, constantly stopping you. The day i learned how to remove dialogue changed everything. I was ready to move on and stop playing before i had used all the characters. When i removed the dialogue: the game has excellent pacing. It is amazing to play like that, of course, you are not linked to the story at all but at least the game is fun.
Some of the dialogue scenes are MINUTES long and if you haven't yet learned the whole game, you can't progress. Several times you have to wait for a long time, only to be told to drive to the other side of the map: bitch, i would already be there if you had just given me the map marker.
Really weird that this is not #1 complaint in this list, i seriously was going to give up on the WHOLE FRANCHISE because of it.
edit: another example of this is when you navigate to new planet the first time.. and have to wait to say something to Lilith. Why? Why can't i talk to her while the ship is moving? SHE IS RIGHT THERE. You can't run downstairs to the drop pod like you can for the rest of the game... You have to.. wait, then say fucking one word and then are free to progress. Who makes decisions like that? I want to meet that man or woman.

There were missions where she expressed a love for her younger brother even if she kept her distance and despite his loathing of her. And she expressed moral discomfort with the killing of the scientists
So she wasn’t HEARTLESS or EVIL she just didn’t let her feelings influence her business decisions
They could have kept everything the same but in the moment of her defeat she could have dropped her loot and ran or given up!

    3. Where is Vladof and DAHL in this conflict, they are both like the largest corporations in the game.
    4. Planet exploration seems hollow, why give us planets to look at if there is nothing to really see. Hell Pandora doesnt have the Helios crash site on it and Helios was 1/5th the size of Elpis. Necrotefao (butchered) has no explanation or shock value that 1/4 of the planet has exploded.
