  • Jason Sweet isn't like other PJ's. As a members of Air Force Special Warfare, Pararescue Specialists (PJ's) are directly responsible for the rescue and medical treatment of downed military personnel all over the world. And saving lives is only a part of his service record - Jason also spent a spell in Afghanistan, roomed with his own father while he was at boot camp, and even played on special teams for University of Arizona Football.
Nowadays he's running an elite Special Operations training program called SOCOM Athlete, merging his knowledgebase with other professionals from different arms of the military to train America's next generation of warriors. But to hear where he came from, you might be surprised to see how far he's come.

It's interesting how physicality plays such a huge role in the lives of a lot of operators post-military. It cracks me up when I hear them say that it's mostly mental...especially when they're talking about training like BUDS or numerous selection courses. No. It's mostly physical, & most of these guys are more special physically than they are special mentally. Most of these guys are within a range of pretty smart to really smart, but they're all outstanding athletes, very much including the guys that say they're just average athletes...they mean average amongst their peers, not amongst society at large. I'd love to hear more of these guys talk about this...the fact that the main requirement is physical talent.

I was a paramedic for a little over 27 years. I worked a busy system in central Texas. Your descriptions of some of your calls brought back a lot of memories. Both good and bad. My experiences changed me and not always for the better. Call me crazy but if I knew then what I know now I’d do it all over again.

We really learn very little about Mike, especially anything in-depth about his career in the SEALS. His job behind the mic is to learn about the subject of the interview, after all. I was surprised to learn he served and fought beside Glen Doherty. Maybe I missed that at some point.
Benghazi is one of those events that has stuck with me as a great tragedy of war and how every facet of our government is flawed - causing things to happen that never should have and denying any blame or involvement in those events. “What difference does it make now, anyhow.” are words I will not only never forget but never forgive, either. It was in many ways a turning point for me on realizing just how corrupt our government is.
I think of those four men often- probably too often for the fragile side of me - Doherty, Stevens, Smith and Woods. I only know them from what I have read and seen on the internet that is bold enough to tell the full story, but it’s a tragedy I can’t seem to shake. That allows me to honor them not only on September 11 along with the souls of 3,000 lost at the Twin Towers but every time I wear the tee shirt with their names and “Valor” printed in bold leaders. The ink is fading but the memory and the honor never will.

1:00:00 🤣 What is it with the Army and hands in pockets? I was AF attached to a unit at Fort Polk LA and was walking to work with my hands in my pockets. An Army SSgt literally ran 50 meters yelling at me to get my hands out. I played the AFI 36-2903 card and said airmen could have their hands in their pockets (totally bluffing). The sgt just walked away grumbling, as did I for being stationed on that s..t hole of an assignment in the first place. PS Met some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life at Fort Polk, who coincidentally casually used the n word and praised Jesus on Sunday. It was such a weird place.

I've never understood the battle between belief and non-belief. My dad killed himself in 1975, he was a believer and took his own life and his self-death left me alone and confused. For me there is no god. No creator. It's a subjective experience. I am happy to live in a society where faith is personal and subjective. I don't want 'turn' people away from religion, faith and belief. It's a personal and subjective experience and I don't make a habit of telling people that I have zero belief and zero faith in a god. At the same time I have no negative comments about people who enjoy and live with belief and faith. If it works for you then do it. Religion and faith has provided so much human goodness for humans in culture, architecture, music and literature. I embrace that cultural importance. Yet, my life, my perspective in that there is no god, no afterlife and no redeemer belongs to me is my subjective experience. I can't live a false life. Yet, I have also asked for answers just like Jason did that night when he saw the stars in the sky and asked for life and spiritual guidance. I heard nothing. No response. No voice. So I continue to live with my freedom to feel nothing in regards to any faith or belief in a god. I was a soldier in Iraq in 1991 and was close to death after an accident and when I 'died' there was nothing but the blackness of the nothingness until I woke up in Cyprus in hospital with tubes coming out of every part of my body. Also I understand that Mike produces a shown that requires advertisements to create this great show. And Jason Sweet's story is great.
