      Binks is a manufacturer of spray coatings equipment (spray guns, cups, pots, etc..) but apparently that is not a Binks. I don't even know if there are still around.

    No need to pull the lights. Grill comes off with just a tug. We swapped a friend's grill with mine in under 30 seconds. No really, we were timed to do it under a minute, LOL. Loos good though.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  10 лет назад

      The grill was already broken by I am guessing someone just ripping the grill off without taking the headlights out. I will take a little more time and pull the headlights, to get the grill out to save breaking the grill more.

    In between when your changing colors do you have to clean out the spray gun? I'm not that experienced at painting but i did buy a spray gun i have yet to use. Also have you have repainted the frame on any of your trucks if so what do you suggest doing? In a few weeks ill be taking the bed off my truck, replacing some cross members and want to repaint the frame to help prevent rust and give it a better look thats why i ask, Thanks for any info! and the grill looks great!

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  10 лет назад

      Yes you have to clean the gun completely between primer/color/clear. I use paint thinner and spray it until it is clean.
      For my frames I usually use the industrial rustoleum. I have heard people using por15 and others paint over rust products and they seem to like them. I have never used them. With the rustoleum I usually have to touch it up every year if the surface was really rusty but if you can get it clean it is very good paint. I used it to paint my gooseneck trailer. My dad just stumbled onto some marine grade paint that I am going to try. You can get it at Sherwin Williams I guess. You can roll it on and it will self level I guess. And if it is marine grade so you know it is tuff. When I try some I will do a video.

    • @dieselguy5145
      @dieselguy5145 10 лет назад

      mossman381 Ohh ok ill make sure i do that when i use it. yea i have heard of por15 too but my friends uncle who is a painter has also said that primer and a couple coats of black would be the best to do. Yea the marine grade i would assume hold up pretty good against the elements

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  10 лет назад

      The bowtie turned out pretty good. It looks black until you get up close. Then you can see some of the gold bowtie shine through. I think it will look awesome in the sun.

    What kind of paint do you use? Does it have a sheen to it? What kind of sand paper did you use? Also what brand of cleaner or degreaser do you recommend?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  9 лет назад

      Don Davis I get all my supplies from the local Car-Quest. I use Duponts off brand paint. It is a little cheaper than Dupont branded stuff. The paint shines just like the factory paint if you lay it down right. Again my cleaner and degreaser is from Car-Quest. If you go to your local autobody supply place I am sure they will help you get started.

    Very nice work!! You putting led headlights and taillights on? On the same note, what are the brand name of the ones your put on the dually?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  10 лет назад

      I am getting black headlights and led parking lights. Just like Darth Dually has. If I remember back when I got my headlights and parking lights for the dually the box was unmarked. So I am guess they were cheap china built.

    • @billd5211
      @billd5211 10 лет назад

      You are correct of the cheep china built stuff!! I was looking around and saw the ANZO lights to be the biggest company.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  10 лет назад

      Anzo is still probably foreign made. Some of the companies try to sell them for a lot more than you can get them on ebay for. Eagle Eyes is a good light maker. I believe they make a lot of oem lights. I have bought them before.

    so you are using etching primer on plastic?.. im going to attempt to do this on my 07 silverado. i also have to paint the bumper end caps and also the bumper face bar. the end caps are new black plastic.. the grille is plastic chrome and the face bar is chrome plated steel.. do you have any tips so i dont screw this up... im going to be using spray can paint and primer.. the end goal is to black everything out.. i know the more attention to prep the better it will come out. should i clear coat these.. i want a matte finish?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  8 лет назад

      Yes, an old painter told me about using etching primer on chrome. I have had pretty good success doing that. Spray cans won't come out like this video. Real paint and a professional paint gun is the only way to get results like this. If you are looking for a matte finish the spray cans might work out for you. I would suggest doing a test piece and see if you can get the results you are looking for before you try it on your truck.

    Good video I have a question if I get a plastic grill instead of a chrome one do I still use the etching primer before painting?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  7 лет назад

      You can just use a regular primer if you don't have chrome.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  10 лет назад

      I have done this many times with good results. If you don't feel comfortable doing it this way then don't. I am just showing everybody the way I do it.

  • @Feosnake
    @Feosnake 9 лет назад

    Was thinking about trying this to my s10.. will the edging primercover up the chrome good enough to paint over it?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  9 лет назад

      Greg Gracia It is etching primer. Etching primer is suppose to be used on bare metal. It will etch its self right into bare metal and is an expensive primer. Similar to what auto manufactures use. This is the way I paint chrome. Painting chrome is a last resort. I didn't want to buy a new grill so I just painted mine. It will not be as durable as if you painted on a black grill. Most body shops won't even paint chrome. The paint has held up good on this grill. Still looks good.

    what if i have a brand new 98 silverado grill? same process or just straight to etching primer?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  8 лет назад

      You need to scuff up the grill really well before the etching primer. Then the same.

    I tried taking my car to a shop to have all the chrome bits painted, they told me that they wouldn't do it because it would eventually come off. Apparently they don't think it was worth the money, so I have to ask, has anyone who has painted their chrome grill etc had any issues with peeling shortly afterwards?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  9 лет назад

      +DoomsdayMelody91 I have since sold this truck but the paint was still on the grill last time I saw it. Not sure when I made this video. I have painted chrome and it has held up pretty good using the same technique. You aren't going to find a body shop willing to do it unless you sign off on any warranty.

  • @NateWrabel
    @NateWrabel 9 лет назад

    How has it held up? I'm thinking about doing it but I live in upstate NY and an auto body guy told me that it will just flake off eventually from the salt and snow.

    What are you using to sand and scuff

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  8 лет назад

      Just a scuffing pad. If you have areas that need to me smoothed out more you can get more aggressive with sand paper. You will also probably have to use fill in primer then sand that to get a smooth surface for paint.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  3 года назад

      Back then I used Dupont. The important steps are scuffing and etching primer. You can use any automotive grade paint you like. If you use spray cans don't expect these kinds of results.
