Back in the day, we eagerly waited in all of those queues!!!
Wow!
I rode this for the first time last month. I’m always leery of older woodies and will get my first ride near the front to keep from getting beaten up. There was no reason to be worried and it rode well near the back too. What a great, classic coaster.
The refurb really helped.
I was pleasantly surprised by Great American Scream Machine. It was rough, but I didn’t find it unbearable.
It's tolerable now.
Thank you for mentioning the records it held, i have watched countless rollercoaster record videos that just skip this beautiful rollercoaster. I rode on it the first time 20 years ago. Its a masterpiece.
It's a historic ride for sure.
Your reviews are really useful! Based of your review I think this coaster is feasable
Thank you!
Great review man! I’ve Been riding this thing since I was a little kid in the late 90s. I love it. Still get multiple rides every time I visit the park. The brake run is so much more bearable now haha. This is a top 4 coaster in the park for me.
I'm glad the brakes were adjusted.
ahh can’t wait to ride this someday/visit Over Georgia! love a classic woodie! thinking of randomly remaking this in one of my parks on RCT3 😆🤷🏻♂️
Nice!
It’s true, the airtime isn’t quite what it used to be but it still is a fun time. I got to ride a lap in the row ahead of you and it was nice to chat for a minute.
Nice to meet you too!

I've seen riders get to choose their rows. Other times, they are funneled to a specific car to the operator's description. In the main queue, you are free to select any row that you'd like. I would recommend avoiding a wheel seat or the back car. For years, I heard this coaster was notoriously...

I recently re-rode Blue Streak at Cedar Point, I gotta admit, up front, that first hill after the drop gave some floatjector airtime. Actually, now thinking it about, the ride has great floater airtime on each hill.
Finally, someone who agrees.
Blue Streak has great airtime. Pretty fun wood coaster
@@blathersb it sure is
Blue Streak has good airtime.
Wow, I haven’t been on that coaster since 1978! It was horribly rough way back then, but still fun. I didn’t know the station had moved. I like the idea of the new trains.
I suspect the entrance moved since the ramp at the start of the queue now is sort of awkward, but I'd need a local to confirm.
I've been going to the park since 68. I had stopped riding the SM because it was so rough on my back. I may try it again now. So the entrance and station hasn't changed. It used to be that every row in the que filled and you waited on the down slope. I've got several videos from there but I haven't been this year. Thanks
Those last few hills were amazing with the buzz bars
I just remember it being rough when I rode it in the buzz bar trains.
I rode it in 2020 before the retrack, it was rough, but the ride itself was pretty fun! I got a nice amount of bouncy airtime on some of the speed hills.
It's smoother now, but the airtime has been lessened.
The GA cyclone trains only lasted one season and the park had two new lighter trains built since the Ga Cyclone trains were too heavy, the new trains allowed for the trim on the bunny hop to be completely removed
Thanks for clarifying.
4:26 - The trim brake's been removed after it's 2022 refurbishment. This coaster to me is the roughest coaster I've experienced. With it's re-track, it now is bareable and I can feel a little bit of it's airtime. Decent ride and it's the 4th wood coaster I've ridden.
The trim brake removal was mentioned at 6:59
Yes it was removed.
This was a little rough when I rode it many years ago..
It's Beautiful ..
BUZZ bars were great!
Wish they still had them.
I can’t wait to ride GASM after the refurb. This was my favorite back in the day and when it ran backwards late ‘80s/early ‘90s (can’t remember when) that was a unique experience
P.S. I wish they would bring back the old trains as well. Buzz bars rule!!!
Yeah I wish the buzz bars remained.
I first rode the Scream Machine when it opened in 1973. I remember it being a beast! The first two drops lifting me out of my seat.
I rode it again in, 2000. I immediately noticed right away, how terribly rough, painful, brutal, and torturous it had become! After I got off of it, my back hurt for 5 days! I had a headache for a full day etc.
I wanted to write Six Flags a Letter. I’m telling you, it was in bad shape. I can only imagine how much worse shape it was in before they finally retracted it.
Yes, if they have smoothed it out, I’ll try it again.
You have to for guys like me. Jeez, I’m 60 now! I first rode that thing when I was 11 ! 😂
I'm glad the park invested in it to fix it.
I rode it before its retrack and man was it rough I need to ride it again soon
It's riding better now in terms of smoothness.
I'll just have to hold on to my fond memories of the intensity of the old version. The new trains are a major downer for me. My first ride was back in 1995. I waited in those switchbacks many times growing up because the scream machine was always a top coaster in the park. The breaks at the end really were not a thing. You came in hard and fast and got crazy laterals when hitting the turn
I wish I could have ridden the ride in its heyday.
Canobie Coaster would say:
So what would I rate Great American Scream Machine? I would give this classic woodie a 5 out of 10. This is a fine coaster. I love its look and history, but objectively there are better woodies out there nowadays. That being said, the recent work made this ride tolerable in many rows. And there is still some airtime to be had, even if it may be a bit less than before because of the restraint change and the smoothed-out hills. Then I also love this ride's location along the water and water park.
Purely looking at the ride experience, I sort of wish Scream Machine had been RMCed instead of...
Georgia Cyclone.
I had so much fun in the back on this coaster although the brake at the end was abrupt to say the least
Did you ride before they modified the final brake?
@@CanobieCoaster Yes I have not been on it in the last 2 years
How many other coasters at Six Flags Over Georgia (both operating and defunct) did have reputations as rough rides? What do you think?
Blue Hawk in the Ninja days and Georgia Cyclone also had rough reputations.
What did most people and enthusiasts prefer at Six Flags Over Georgia, Great American Scream Machine or Georgia Scorcher, in terms of smoothness and roughness?
Georgia Scorcher
I didn't figure out the rows until now. Yeah I noticed 2nd to back was a lot better than 3rd! Airtime was enough better the very back might be worth it the wheel seat, needs all the help it can get.
Avoiding wheel seats helps a lot with woodies.
@@CanobieCoaster I must have already been deep into heat exhaustion by then to be fooled by the 3 row queues.
In 2010, 2011, 2012, whereas Ninja, Great American Scream Machine, and Georgia Cyclone were considered by many as rough, Georgia Scorcher, Batman the Ride, and Goliath...
Smooth
Six Flags has always claimed that this held records but that simply wasn’t true
At the time it opened Montaña Rusa at La Feria Chapultepec opened in 1964 and was 4550’ longer Giant Coaster at Fuji Q Highland was 26’ taller and opened in 1966 and Cyclone at Luna park is 3 mph faster and opened in 1927
I don't think that the Cyclone goes that fast since it's only 75 ft tall, probably goes 45-50 at most.
@@Mattman0627 I would tend to agree with you, but I think that GASM’s speed is overestimated to
@@stephenboshears4832 That could also be the case but the GASM's drop is bigger than the Cyclone as a whole so I think it would be safe to say that the Cyclone doesn't have a way of being faster.
Entirely fair. Just like how they claimed Mind Bender has 3 inversions when that inclined loop/helix doesn't come close to inverting you.
Cyclone is probably better because speed isn't everything but Thunderbolt at Kenneywood had (and still has) a 90' drop; 1' bigger.
Got 10 rides on Rampage today. The difference is almost like night and day.
Nice!
At Six Flags Over Georgia, what would you rate, Great American Scream Machine, Georgia Scorcher, Mind Bender, and Goliath?
I have reviews answering that.
When they smooth out the hill they should also lower the hill so you go over it quicker.
I wish.
I know the airtime isn't the strongest, but there is something special about this ride that makes me love it. My 2016 ride almost ruined me. I didn't pay attention to restraints at that time, but maybe the buzz bars caused my body to be painfully shaken and thrown all over the place. But every ride from 2019 on has been very enjoyable. I've had a couple rides on wheel seats, even the very back, and I loved it. Maybe it's the redemption story that makes me like it so much.
I'm glad they did trackwork to improve the experience.
"which means no airtime for anyone."
a thoosie died inside when you said that
Pretty much.
I feel like it goes slower with the retracking
It's possible, hence the trim removal.
When I’m king of the world, first thing I do is RMC 90% of the wood coasters out there. GASM is one of the few I’d keep. Such a beautiful and historic ride. Glad to hear you can smooth out a coaster without going full RMC. But I’m nervous how long it will last.
I think it's safe, but not sure how long until it gets rough again.
I went on this In 2022 July
Is not Rough
It’s Not That Bad
Only Coasters I Think is Rough is Candy Cane Coasters and Matterhorn
I need Re-Ride to get Me To Review
Yeah it's tolerable now.
I assume it’s a pretty lack luster woodie now
It's fine.
Is this a ROUGH ride?
Not too bad as of now.
A pretty short Woodie length wise with how big it is
I think the length is fine.
I liked it more when it was rough ngl the airtime was way better now its just a smooth but boring woodie
I do remember it having more airtime in the past.
I was asking you, did you ever come off something at Six Flags Over Georgia with a headache?
Canobie Coaster would say: Great American Scream Machine could cause one...
A) pre-retrack.
B) post-retrack.
Did you notice that when you rode it in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, or 2021?
