I really like that Claudia and Soren, not just copies of Zuko and Azula, they are villains but they don't want to do anything bad or they believe they are doing the right thing by obeying their father, but we still see a lot of doubt and they themselves feel questioning what is right

If you read the novels and some of the expanded material, they hint that he came from more humble upbringing. His title as a lord was something he earned rather than being born into power. This insecurity drives a lot of his actions, as wants to know that others recognize his intelligence and importance, and wants to know he is valued and admired.

I think Claudia is always sincere. Like, I don't think we've ever seen her not tell the truth (at least as she understands it. Since her father lies as a matter of course and he's her source for a lot of things, it gets complicated).

He's not dead. In a Netflix image at castle Katolis in the rain with Ezran, Opeli & the cannon fodder, i mean guards you can see Viren's cloak. I think in the first episode Claudia kills Sparkle Gollum to regrow her leg & with a side effect it saves Viren.

Claudia and Soren are such complex, interesting characters. They keep you guessing about what they're going to do, and yet it never feels forced or contrived. They feel like real, complicated people who are put into difficult situations.
They might be my favourite characters in this show for that exact reason, to be honest. There are a lot of great and well-written characters here but something about their messy sibling-ness has me in a choke hold.
yes, claudia did really like callum !! she even says that she feels like she would’ve betrayed him if she kissed him, even though she wanted to do that more than anything she ever wanted. in the novelisation of book 2 it’s much more clear than here tho, i get why it could seem very manipulative when watching the show

I like to imagine Elijah’s conflict about Claudia is a glimpse of the days of her sapphic awakening
I think the unique thing about Claudia is that typically when writers want you to like a character they focus on making them nice, but with Claudia they decided to focus on making her fun. Being nice is something you do with strangers just as a formality but being fun is something you usually save for friends and family so it makes it really easy to get attached to her.
9:50 let's not ignore that the elf illusionist disguised a bunch of LIVE worms as different kinds of food, if you have any argument how eating those creatures is not exactly the same as using a part of them to create food, I'd like to hear it.

So, on the subject of Claudia's relationship with Callum my theory is that she sees him less as a romantic interest and more as a little brother. She cares about him a lot even if she may not want to get with him. That's why she put up that ruse for so long but stopped short of kissing him, not wanting to lead him on. That's the thing about Claudia, she cares very deeply about her friends and family to the point where she'll go to extreme lengths for them. I won't say more because then we'd be getting into spoilers.
Also, most people might not think about this but just for the record, Callum is 14 (going on 15) and Claudia is currently 17. Now, I know there's a debate as to whether or not that age difference matters but to me, I think that gap in maturity is also a factor.
I dunno, she seems sincerely taken with him here. I don't think she was leading him on at all, but she recognized that it'd be wrong to kiss him while she's still caught up in the lie about his dad.
I think that they would be a pair where romantic feelings would develop over time as a deep affection if not a passionate romance. She likes the fact that he likes her quirky traits where others are turned away. In a medieval kingdom setting I could see them getting together in an arranged but happy marriage. She’s going to succeed her dad as high mage. Callum may not be in line for the throne but as Ezran’s brother he’ll be an important advisor to the future king.
Of course that all supposes that things between them don’t go sideways. 😳🫥🫡
Also I think that she’s actually 16 at the start of the show. Two years younger than Soren.
I don't know about males but girls were already considered full grown women at 17 unless she's "a late bloomer" in ancient times. If a woman wasn't married by like 20 she was usually shipped to a convent or nun academy.
@@MichaelJW72Her age was retconned. She's 19 in season 4 which makes her 17 in season 1. Season 4 takes place exactly 2 years later after season 1 to 3 which is 1 month.

around 17:00 is one of my favorite scenes in the series. It's kind of on the nose, but it still works - Viren is pissed off that he can't access the mirror's secrets at the same time that he's accusing himself in his reflection of not being special or important. I really like how they did that scene.
So I just finished binging all of the seasons. You are in for a rollercoaster of emotion. That is all I will say.

Yes, Claudia is meant to be a conflicting character. So is Viren. Soren is meant to be more naive. Claudia was raised to think Dark Magic is the best course of action, but also knows to treat the creatures she kills with respect. It's the least she CAN do. Over time, her viewpoint changes. Whether for the best or the worst....? Keep watching to find out. ;)

One of the best things about this show is everyone is on a spectrum. There's terrible, if you know you know, and there's paragons of goodness, Ezran. Everyone else is somewhere in the middle, while their decisions take them one way or the other.
The great strength of the show is showing how the characters deal with the hard decisions and how the circumstances and people around them influence those choices.
I'm really sick today and it sucks, but when I saw your video in my recommendeds my mood immediately brightened! I love your videos so much, you are genuinely the best reactor I've ever seen, and you always make my day :)

Soren and Claudia remind me so much of Zuko and Azula, except without the scar on his face and the fact that Claudia gets along with her brother very well.
She’s also missing Azula’s mean streak.
Claudia is almost nothing like Azula except being a "daddy's girl". Claudia loves her family & friends. Azula hates and/or uses them for personal gain.
So they don't remind you of Zuko and Azula then. The only thing they kind of have in common is the relationship dynamic between their dad

What Claudia says makes sense. Dark magic, and being human, isn't about achieving accomplishments without magic. It's about gaining magic despite a natural deficit. Humans are the lowest class of creature in this world by having no magic whatsoever. To Claudia, seizing the means of magical production IS empowering.

Plus in medieval times, nobility and royalty ate meat and dairy products nearly all the time. And Soren is Viren's son, who is a part of the noble class. Soren, soldier or not, has a privileged upbringing. Like I said, they're not one to talk

I think when Claudia is talking about humans and dark magic, her implication is that dark magic allowed humans to do things the elves and dragons can do to strengthen their civilization. There will be stuff coming up soon that shows why many humans might view dark magic as a good thing, or at least as a necessary evil.

Hi Eljiah, can you please watch jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. It's an animated show about a group of teenagers who suck in jurassic Park. It has a great plot, lots of character development, and lots of mystery! I personally am not fan of jurassic Park, but I love this. Also, a spin-off just came out, so you can watch that after.

I honestly think that, whether Claudia is evil or not I won’t give anything away, is such an interesting character. Like I love her naive wickedness, how she is too manipulated by her fathers lessons to see the immorality of certain things, I think it’s so fascinating to watch. But I’m more into characters based off their complexity, not how morally “good” they are (not to say they cant be both), so idk
I can't read Claudia's character very well, but I still like her very much. She's still one of my favorite characters.
Lujanne's advice did work, actually. The obvious untruth of it led Rayla to the correct path.
Keep in mind that Lujanne is an illusionist. She uses lies and misdirection to lead people to the truth. I especially love how her character is juxtaposed against Veren. He was the advisor to a King, so technically his job is to tell the truth, but instead he uses facts and information to lead people away from the truth.
