Had my black covers on since I got my Y in January as you say looks a bit more individual. Got spare red tesla stick on centre caps if you want them stay in cove. Another great video car looks great 👍
I curbed mine within a week of getting my model Y long range. Not done that for years!! But the moment I done that and saw that the covers that come don’t cover the rim of the allow I went on eBay and bought some black covers. If there’s any impact on range I haven’t noticed! Plus as you said in the video just makes the car slightly different from all the others out there!
I preferred the standard covers on my last model 3 to these silver ones on my Y. I did consider replacing with black but I went off the boil.....I might reconsider them as the black certainly looks good, especially as a contrast to the white paint.
Yesterday I was surfing the Tesla site and there where some soon to be delivered models, with matte black Gemini wheel covers. Still not the most beautiful but far better looking than the silver ones.
The silver ones get very boring very quickly. I prefer them to any diamond cut wheels (why oh why do they get fitted to any car?) but they're not great.
Added black wheel covers to our Model Y as soon as we got it almost two years and 80,000kms later, all good. Keep the box and packaging to put the old covers in to. The marks on the wheel are from the clips on the old wheel covers.
Nice looking covers. The problem I have with black is that you can see through to the silver behind. I bought a set of black turbine looking covers cheap from Temu and spray painted metallic graphite gray which looks great and for sure is nothing like anyone else’s Model Y, holding up great and cheap to fix or replace if they get damaged. Love your channel and looking forward to your next video
Thanks! I know that a perennial complaint from people with black wheels is that they scuff them and the black wears off. Hopefully I won't have the same problem with these! I assume that if I scuff them I can just sand down the scuff and paint over the scuff...
According to the EV Base website the adhesive foam fits around the circumference of the wheel to protect the original alloys and stop any rattles. The first time I took my aero covers off found the metal clips had marked the alloys on all four wheels - poor design imo. If these replacement covers prevent curb rash they are worth it - rarely see a Model 3 in particular without wheel rash!
I purchase alloy wheel insurance in addition to the gap. It doesn't cost a great deal of cash but has been well worth it on the cars I have had previous as all alloys get damaged over time. The insurance pays for 4 refurbs. I also get tyre insurance....when the tyres are getting low they seem to attract nails/screws in the sidewall, so I get a new replacement tyre(s) 😉
Top notch fella, i think i’ve found another way to spend money on our teslas 😂. Personally i quite like silver alloys, part of the old school, but by better half really loves the stealthy look and wanted the alloys on the dual motor version, here’s the simple answer. Loving your content being a late tesla adopter, keep it coming 👍
tip: use the car's wheel and tyre settings to change to 19" with the black Gemini covers that are a US option. This makes the 3d render on the screen and in the Tesla app show black wheel covers.
when I took my Gemini covers off I was surprised by how many little marks they had made in the alloys underneath after a year of being on. If i'd have known, i'd have taken them off sooner. You can actually clean up rim roadrash quite successfully with a dremel and a sanding drum type bit.
I think their appearance will grow on you. I bought a set of black covers from basenor for my model Y. I now prefer them to the Gemini covers or alloys. BTW the set from Basenor came with the centre caps, they were more expensive though. Swings and roundabouts really.
Yay a Tuesday video. Yes i prefer the black to the silver. Matches up nicely. I prefer another design on the website but that’s by the by. Tesla logo would look distinguished as well. White or red 😊
We got something similar and our long term average went from a long term average of 4.2 miles/ kWh to 4.5 on standard range Model Y. No change in driving etc.
Yes, I've read a few comments saying "will harm your range". Not so far, and they are more aerodynamic than the bare alloys I was running until I put them on...
@@justgetatesla I just wish the stock covers protected the alloys. I wanted to remain stock because everyone wasn’t and so it stuck out, but 2 kerbings later…
G'Day Ian. I'm on my 3rd and a half set of 'AliExpress' wheel covers for my White 22 MY. I have curbed them all I'm afraid (the Y is a lot wider and I'm no good at judging where the wheels are). All 4 sets are BRITTLE (unlike the OEM Tesla ones) so when you do curb them, large chunks can go flying off (oops again). I'm currently running a set of CYBERTRUCK covers, which appear to be rather unique - I have not seen another Tesla with these covers (apart from the CT). My rims are also damaged from the metal clips, but it isn't a big deal to me, because I can't see them. It's a shame I can't post a picture here or I would show you... Next, now that you have 'stealthified' your white beast, maybe look at getting some stick-on BLACK Tesla logos for the front and back (like I have). The badges I have stick on OVER the existing chrome ones, so you don't have to remove the old badges with fishing line and a hair dryer. Regards, Greg. (from Australia)
For £171, I'd expect the centre caps to be included. They do look nice, but they seem to be made of rigid material. Most OEM trims are flexible. Having had both in the past, I honestly wouldn't have the rigid type again. But then, I didn't pay £171/£187.
@@Tullyez Good idea. It didn't even occur to me to glue them on, as they already have a sticky backing, but it's not very good... Super Glue to the rescue !
They look much better Ian. Interested to hear about any difference in range. I curbed my 1st alloy in Aviemore a couple weeks ago. Luckily I have cover and it’s been repaired already
These aren't cheap - I know that. But I've seen so many Temu / Ali Express covers and the negative comments that go with them. You get what you pay for,
I do on some shots! But my shooting style is handheld as its more natural and organic. There are channels out there with a fixed camera and a presenter talking in dull monotone into it, but that isn't me. I will try to reduce movements though! Feedback is always a gift so I will try
Do you think that these covers are more likely to get stolen? I see plenty of non alloy wheel cars with missing covers. Do you think that the camera security system would put people off doing this?
Can’t you buy tires with rim protection built into the side walls of the tyre? One bump up the curb and those are going to break as sound to be made of cheap brittle plastic? I can’t see them stopping on if you were to ride the curb?
You can! But not the tyres that I need. The only downside of these CrossClimate tyres is the lack of rim protection - otherwise they are absolutely imperious.
Silly question. Does this count as a modification that you have to inform your insurance company? I imported some remetrix Tesla covers (Medusa black) but haven’t put them on just yet
They probably don’t come with logos as one package due to copyright, I have black ones on mine as they look awesome on a white car, I got mine from somewhere else 😉 and they came with logos even though the pictures didn’t show them. It’s weird the original Tesla ones don’t cover/protect the edge of the wheel maybe they get 0.0001%more efficiency that way??
Interesting how different people see the same thing in different ways. Honestly i think the black covers make the wheels look bigger, not smaller 👀. The joy of wheel covers is that we all have the freedom to choose
These are more expensive compared to better looking ones on Ebay, some of which are as aerodynamic as the originals. These look likely to have a range penalty of c. 5%. based on numerous efficiency tests on RUclips.
Sure! But you do know there is a world of difference between one product and another! China make some great stuff - including my car and the Macbook I am typing on. They also make some cheap tat - whatever the market wants. If these were cheap I'd have said so.

I went with the 20" induction wheels. I have a white y with the black wheels. I think thats the best looking combo.
Having had 20s on a previous car I wanted to avoid it here. The ride is firm enough as it is! But each to their own
Nice that they have the full protection for the alloy, Being crazy you could add a black tesla logo.

Time to get white wall tyres. You know it makes sense.
An alternative I have seen is white rim protectors fitted to black wheel covers. It's almost as good as whitewalls IMO.

Those marks on The centre of the wheel would be wear marks from the original trims rubbing on the wheel rim over time.
