However, there must be more to it, since the software could be patched such that it always sends the same number and/or accepts any value returned. Also, ebay has $20 dongles , yet they can't all be interchangeable for different software. I'd love to emulate a dongle for a 20-year old WinXP program that I use under a virtual machine. The company is out of business, and the dongle is flakey. I try not to unnecessarily remove or insert it, and just always keep it plugged in, however, even still it often loses the connection. I'm sure it's a matter of time before it will stop working!
