I guess I'm bitter. I do have a short temper as well. I all i wanted was love, and i was constantly denied of that. I am distrustful of women, and at one point, it grew to contempt. I hate the uncertainty of the human heart. From the rejection of my biological father, to being discarded by the love of my life, how does one struggle with the anger, the sadness, while trying with his all to not hate them?

by changing your focus on the lessons of all that. By realizing that " all that " was a stepping to a better life. You only truly know what you want by knowing what you dont want. And that is precisely what you have been doing and will do , " thas life" . As you grow you just start to understand this truth and stop to be hard on yourself.

@Faline Dahlia I'm sure it's not that easy. I'm sure s/he needs therapy, just as I do. I'm so full of bitterness for nothing too. Although mine comes from childhood bullying and a violent relationship I was in. I guard my heart a lot cause I think people are out to get me. Someone could just tell me to tuck in my shirt better or anything and I might not respond verbally but my mind will assume I am somehow being attacked

It is a blessing when someone you dont know, in conversation, detects anger you didnt know you harbored, and alerts you to it, is a lifesaver. You are made aware, and can work on it. Walls may be up, but God heals and helps in creation of healthy boundary walls. You can forgive, but healing is a must.

Bullying, disrespect, put-downs and humiliation from students and some of my teachers, lack of emotional and moral support from my parents and siblings, loneliness, many traumatic events at home and school, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression made me a very bitter person. I used to be kind and happy, but I’m now tough, merciless and unsympathetic and the comments I make can be downright scathing and hurtful enough to break someone’s spirit to the people who try to make my life hell. I don’t go around hurting people for no reason unless they treat me like shit. I hate that I’ve become such a cruel person, but I only became this way after being disgraced many times in front of people for making mistakes, even though making mistakes is part of being human. FYI, I’m only 16 and I’m working on becoming a better person. I treat people exactly how they treat me because I don’t take shit from anyone.

I'm bitter. I use to be happy, charmful, and on-going, when I got bullied around middle school, because of how different and weird I was, and it impacted my mental health and my long time happiness just faded away. Now I'm this teen that can't think straight, can't talk well because I'm constantly paranoid of what people will say about me. And always constantly think about the negatives in the past. I always try to make myself a better person everyday but fail. I always see people talk to their friends everyday while I just sit around people, not attempting to make any, because of anger and jealousy. Now I resort to social media friends to help me feel better but even I say things there I don't mean to say and just get scolled or rejected. I hate who I am today and I wish that I could go back to my happy days.

You might be surprised how talking with people who care and who you can relate to can help you overcome your own issues. Who knows maybe you’ll get to a point one day where you can help someone who is going through a situation similar to your own. Life is short, i hope you spend as much of it as you can with peace, happiness and positivity, you deserve it.

Life is a game of musical chairs with too few seats to go around. Of course you or another will be bitter. Don't listen to the rose tinted, self help pep talks, or the false hope offered on here.
Carry your burden and your truth. You know, they don't. And besides, what are you gonna do, become a happy smiling idiot like all the others who added to your stress of not living a charmed life? Forget about it. Don't shirk your wisdom and what you know so another poor soul has to be brought low when you start preaching false hope and happy tales like all the other self satisfied idiots. Don't ever be so cruel.
You have attained wisdom. You can live life in balance and truely empathize with others. It's a gift. A bitter sad gift, but still a talent most will never understand. And when tragedy strikes, you can take it like a man and let it annihilate you if it comes to that. You realize life isn't that great. You don't have to shriek and cry and beg as another tragedy unfolds. Such is life, you know it.
I think about apocalypse and natural disasters movies. The idiots are all running around with zero dignity trying to save their miserable little lives. Those with dignity and wisdom remain calm and even hit the snooze button, lol. They don't have time to pretend life is worth saving at all cost. And besides, maybe the disaster will just miss. Everybody left, so you'll have time to piss in the neighbor's pool if you want.

Overcoming bitterness and experiencing forgiveness is a very difficult task. That's why Jim video series is entitled "The Road to Forgiveness" because there isn't a quick fix or a cure all answer at the end of the road. It's a one step, and then another step, and then another type of road. It's definitely a journey, and one you should not travel alone. I strongly suggest you contact a family counselor like Jim Valez or a counselor or very trusted friend in your area and seek out the encouragement to begin this journey.

I think my bitterness stems from bullying when I was younger. I never had friends then and I grew up to believe that the world is always against me. Sometimes I'll feel attacked over very simple comments from family and friends. The other day I moved to a new house and my family came visiting. While hanging out and laughing, my sister tried to warn me that the location looked a little scary for someone to walk around at night cause she knows I love partying and arriving home late on the weekends. On my part, I did not view her suggestion to have been made from a place of love and care, until later. I began to attack back telling her how she sounds like she knows everything, then ended up regretting my actions later. It's really bad. But I'm happy I know my problem cause I am very self aware. I just need to figure out a way to become a better person.

The Lord has healed me of so much already, but it takes courage to work through the issues of our heart, most don't want to face "the real me", we have to be honest and that takes humility, I find bitterness and pride go hand it hand, fear too, that's been my experience anyway.

Don't let bitterness be this burden you think you must get rid of.
Forget about it, you're golden. I listen to why many people are bitter, and 98 times out of 100 it makes all the sense in the world why they're bitter. They'd be a fool not to be bitter.
You really think being a happy go lucky person makes sense? Not to me it doesn't. Sure, if I lived their charmed little lives I too would probably be an annoying moron talking about positive thinking and God 24/7 as I post my smiling mug all over Facebag. Ugh, puke, barf.
Look at me, I'm on a beach. Look at me, I'm on a cruise. Look at me, and pictures of my crotch fruit, aka my children.

Now I wanna cut anyone who tries to tear me down. My mother in law said that I was a harlot because my dress was showing my knees. She is very religious and loves to criticize me for everything. I blew up on her and caused my husband and her alot of pain. I can't help it though, like just shut the fuck up. That's what i want to tell anyone who tries to convince me that I'm not good enough😔

My life wasn't a "happy one" growing up, I grew up being mostly alone and with school being more so. I don't know when it happened, I know that sounds stupid, but one day I woke up and stopped caring about anyone. I honestly forget people exist until I head out, then all I think and feel is hatred towards everybody I see. I don't go out of my way to think this way, it's just the first thing that pops in my head. I don't want to interact with anyone, and anyone that tries, even being kind from the start, I immediately think they're just trying to pull something on me and I say or do whatever will get them to leave or get me away the fastest way possible. I just don't have any interest in anyone and I've lost all will to even try to have a family. When I was younger a part of me wanted that "wife, kids, dog, and house" type of life, but I guess life decided that I wasn't one of the people that do that. So after enough people basically acted like I didn't exist or bullied me for kicks I decided to give people a reason to hate me, so I stopped wanting friends, relationship, even a family. All I wanted, and still want, is to be utterly alone with zero contact with the world because what I got was enough to know it's the same everywhere. Nothing seems worth the effort or expense to me, I remember a time when I was happy and thought people had the ability to be amazing and good, but now, all I see is wasted potential, disappointment, and people that don't care either. If I could let all of this go I would, but I've built my walls as high as I could and now I'm too scare to let them fall

I've become bitter from being rejected by women and by my friends, despite being extremely outgoing and wanting to be by people. Nobody invites me to anything. I have to set everything up. I ask girls out and they always aren't interested. I've tried online dating and everyone just ignores me. Alcohol is the only thing that kills the pain and that only lasts for a short time. If only my friends didn't ignore me then my pain would go away

    • @ShelbyFarrow

It sounds kind of like me, but at least you have friends. I have no friends at all. Women don't want anything to do with me either in person or online. I am ignored as well. So, I just sit home alone and am bitter and I hate life. I don't drink but I eat for comfort. There is no real family contact anymore. Work was my only social network and now I have no job and my former co-workers don't want to associate with me due to the reason I left work. I wish I was not such a worthless coward because I would certainly blow my brains out.

keys to overcome bitterness. go to Jesus. you can't go there. you weren't there. Jesus knows and I will always only trust Him with my pain. so many christians don't have the wisdom to deal with things. you have to pray for them. and BELIEVE God is big enough. He knows people better than "bildad, zophar and the other guy. Jobs friends.

Emotions don’t happen for no reason. God sometimes makes people bitter so they don’t get hurt again so being bitter is god protection from getting into anymore pain. I’m bitter towards women because they broke my heart, it was more then once.

@@GentlemenJack109 Yes I know it is like a defense mechanism. But it is like a negative reinforcement.
Imagine a tiger who has been bred in a circus and hit with a whip all its life to tame. The tiger has now began to associate the whip with pain and will be scared of the whip. If a man approaches it with a whip, without any intention of harming..the tiger will still cower.
Some repeated experienes in the past wire us to believe that things will always happen the same way. But if you look at it logically there is no way to guarantee it. As a matter of fact, we bring about the same results with our own behaviour because we create what we fear.

    • @TheSlimmshadyy

@@GentlemenJack109 I would suggest you to read "The laws of human nature" by Robert Green. The book goes into detail about all this. Specially the chapter about self sabotage and types of attitude.
Also bitterness stops us from moving on and enjoying life. We project our own past experiences onto people who dont deserve it and that is not fair. It is better to let go of bitterness.

I know someone like this. She opened up to me about how her husband was cheating on her and never helped her financially with their daughter. But she also compares her pain to others…. Like what she has gone through is so much worse than others. If you are upset about something then she will just say “suck it up!” But literally talks about everyone as soon as they leave the room. If someone makes more money than her she hates them for it especially if they have a spouse who also makes good money.

A true saying I heard once was "A bitter person is not born they are made" I use to get hurt over and over again by people until I learned not to care. I am not attractive in the least and have went up and down with my weight my whole life. When I gain weight people go out of their way to let me know "your putting on weight arn't you? (like I am too stupid to know that and thanks for pointing that out to me) when I loose weight - "your getting ugly, loosing weight doesn't help your looks at all" lol can't win for loosing. I have received FAR more insults through out my life than complements to the point when someone does complement me I wonder if its not them just making fun behind my back. I never trust a complement - they are either making light of you or they are trying to butter you up because they want something. People truly are amazing.

what happened to the last 4 character traits? Came here thinking of my grandmother. Shes can be hard to be around, i believe due to her bitterness. A conversation cannot go more than a couple of minutes, im speaking quite literally, without circling back to how someone hurt her, ripped her off, lied to her, etc etc. the list goes on. Shes an educated woman, in psychology i believe, which makes it a little tough to show her certain things about her own character traits. Most of the family avoids her to a degree and some avoid completely, even two of her children. The thing is she believes they avoid her because she is smarter, or better in some way, or that she caught them in a lie. Shes tough to visit and remain positive, especially when she turns her focus to you

I think you forgot JEALOUSY. They’re jealous of anyone and everyone they seem to have something they don’t. And they lash out at them over it. Sometimes trying to make them feel bad for their fortune.
It doesn’t work & drives a wedge between the two.
    You both buy lottery tickets.
If your friend wins the lottery and you don’t, criticizing their random luck only shows how ugly and weak you are as a person. Your wealthy friend could have been an alley, but you push them away and out of your life. You fight them instead of your own internal turmoil. You project onto them.

I was told this story about a guy
His family was the type who force their kids into arranged marriages
He did protested but did nothing to stop it
He knew he would be angry from this and went through with it anyway
He cussed everybody out before during and after the wedding and would explode violently everytime he was reminded about his situation
Nobody cared because they thought he was throwing a tantrum and would later adapt to his situation but he did not
He cussed his family everytime he saw them and never spoke a word to his spouse without assaulting her
Still everyone including her had faith that he would come around
But 3 years passed and he did not
He never ate her cooking always opting to cook for himself
his bitter hatred any sexual interest they may have had causing them to remain childless virgins and this resulted in rumours and jokes about him being gay
he spent his days learning to craft and shooting guns and perfecting that as his trade going so far as to build a hidden dwelling isolating himself from them in an attempt tos put as much distance between himself and his family
They watched with a strong faith that things might turn around but as time passed it did not and so with the disastrous results in full view they rejected the practice altogether
And so his sister came of the same age to be married off and he saw first hand that she was not forced into it like he was
Out of sheer jealousy he flew into a rage battering her to near death
His brothers and father ganged up on him and gave him the same
As he recovered they all told him that his misery and anger was his own fault and he should man up and be a husband to his wife
That woman hated him and would routinely torture him as he recovered
But recover he did and when he did he loaded the guns he spent his life learning how to craft and shoot and killed them all

Your lived experiences of life are probably very different.
Give them space and understanding to be a grumpy curmudgeon. That's what they need the most from you anyways. You're not going to make them happy or see the light if they lived a life full of burden and hardships and they lacked the ability to adequetly cope.
Recall a time you felt frustrated and overwhelmed. For whatever reason, that's how they probably experience much of life. The anxiety and despair this causes can be torture for them. And most likely they're aware. They can sense they're not at ease while most people in the world seem pretty relaxed.
