That is an absurd comparison. That is speaking of someone trying to actually help. Try having a gapping open slash and me poking my finger in it then playing the victim when you scream. Why is it the victims responsibility to make you feel better? Why are you so weak? Some of us just want to be left alone because there are too many demons in the world....

When he talks about how bitter people critisise and put others down, it reminds me of my father, and numerous other people who have made my life difficult when I was growing up. They made me bitter, and I feel no sympathy towards them. Being abusive doesn't cure bitterness, it just passes it on.

Wow!! This describes a guy I used to know! He experienced many disappointments in life and got rid of everyone in his life who tried to encourage or help him-he saw it as insulting that we’d try to encourage him. I was the last person to remain, and I lovingly told him things he needed to hear to help pull him out of his bitterness, and he became irate with me and has hated me ever since. He has even admitted that he doesn’t believe in forgiveness. He has truly hardened his heart, and he believes everyone is out to get him-even those who genuinely care, and there is nothing you can do or say to convince him otherwise. He’s also very cold and harsh-even threatening. He’ll do everything he can to insult you. What’s really sad is that he used to be a good guy with integrity. Over the years, I slowly saw him become bitter. :( Thank you for this excellent video! It’s helps explain my friend’s very irrational, angry and unhinged behavior.

Can anyone help me? I've been learning that most emotions serve a purpose. What purpose does bitterness serve? All I can find is info on "How to get rid of bitterness". But why is it there in the first place?

It is a blessing when someone you dont know, in conversation, detects anger you didnt know you harbored, and alerts you to it, is a lifesaver. You are made aware, and can work on it. Walls may be up, but God heals and helps in creation of healthy boundary walls. You can forgive, but healing is a must.

I'm thirty-five and I'd become the most bitter person I ever have been. Every body that I see that is happy makes me pissed off because I'm not happy.

A true saying I heard once was "A bitter person is not born they are made" I use to get hurt over and over again by people until I learned not to care. I am not attractive in the least and have went up and down with my weight my whole life. When I gain weight people go out of their way to let me know "your putting on weight arn't you? (like I am too stupid to know that and thanks for pointing that out to me) when I loose weight - "your getting ugly, loosing weight doesn't help your looks at all" lol can't win for loosing. I have received FAR more insults through out my life than complements to the point when someone does complement me I wonder if its not them just making fun behind my back. I never trust a complement - they are either making light of you or they are trying to butter you up because they want something. People truly are amazing.

I cannot remove bitterness with high school life till now even in my 30s and still have dreams going back through my teens. Even nowadays I do a lot of photographs I still dont like those people in my past. Even one of least favorite teacher died I still feel cold because he was angry for me for no reason.
