  • In this video, Eric goes over how to install a rear bumper on a 2022 Tesla Model Y using a bulk PPF Installation method. Bulk is an easier but harder method of installing PPF. Easier in the sense that you instantly have full coverage, harder in the fact that you have trim off all of the excess PPF and any time you use a knife on PPF, you run the risk of cutting paint.

    You are one of the best installers and you also explain it correctly, I learn a lot watching your videos, I took my trainings with 3M but you only learn a little about the basics and it is difficult to get out of the training and doing all this type of work takes too much time, more techniques are needed advanced like this that you do thanks, a question I don't know if I heard correctly but see that your solution is only hot water, is that correct? they regularly teach you that you need alcohol to activate the glue

    • @DriveProtected
      @DriveProtected  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words! There’s lots of hype in the industry of needing some special cocktail of alcohol/vinegar/magic potion and 10 parts distilled water etc for tack solution.
      You don’t. Just use HOT water. Nothing added. Does the exact same thing and it doesn’t run the risk of burning any adhesive.

    Hey man. Thanks for your videos and effort! One small comment about the relief cut you made on the inside portion of the bumper. It actually isn't necessary. If you actually do start from the middle, lock the film down in the middle with no stretch, and then slightly stretch the film towards the wheels (not enough strength to cause a glueline, but just enough to get rid of the fingers) you'll have enough film to feed into that area without the need for a relief cut. Use a bit of hot water or steam and feed the film in there before squeegeeing it down. We have done over 50 Model Ys all bulk in our shop, and we haven't had a failure in that part yet after choosing this method. Give it a try, you'll have a much cleaner install that way and if you feed the film correctly, you can cover it all the way in there right before the bumper goes up 😊 cheers, and good luck!

    Hi Erick, is it possible to make your one pre-cut pattern? Ofc not a perfect one, but for example durging this instal you have to cut whole trunk section. Can we cut this before instal to save meterial? Or making this cut will only make a problem with stretching (or any other issue)

    Hi Eric, thanks for your videos, It helps me a lot in my new business. One question : when i apply a PPF, even if i’m very careful, claybar, squeegee with soapy water 2 Times,…i always leave some debris underneath the film, that i notice when it’s too late…Is It the same for you ? What is acceptable?

    • @DriveProtected
      @DriveProtected  Год назад

      Yeah it happens. I think when prepping, you need to prep the areas around where you are working too. Like if you are doing your bumper, you should be prepping your hood, fenders, headlights, grill etc.

    Hi man whats the diff between alcohol mix and hot water as tack solution? When do you recommend use one over the other? Thanks for the content ❤

    • @DriveProtected
      @DriveProtected  Год назад +2

      They both do the same, except the alcohol if not mixed properly can burn the adhesive. This is why I recommend just using the hot water tack as it does the same thing without running the risk of damaging the PPF adhesive.

  • @NicooRico

    Can I ask why didn't you put PPF all the way to cover the inside lip of the trunk? You mentioned that dragging things in and out of a trunk might potentially scratch the vehicle. Just curious to know why not place extra coverage along the inside to minimize any future damage.

    • @DriveProtected
      @DriveProtected  Год назад

      The coverage on the inside of this area was sufficient.

    Sorry I called you Chris. Just wanted to share my experience with the heat gun on matte clear. If left on a spot just a little to long it will make the spot shiny. That’s a bummer when this happens.
