Dude...this is probably the best DIY PPF video I've seen. I know it's not nearly as easy as you make it look, since clearly you've been doing this a hot minute, but yeah, really just outstanding. There's no pretentious BS going on here like this is curing cancer. It's putting plastic on a car.
I really appreciate the kind words. Thats the aim of this channel - Teach people how to install PPF with no sugar coating anything.
Out…flipping…standing. This is one of the most comprehensive videos I’ve seen on anything! Amazing job!
Thank you so much!
Most installers want to make you believe this IS ROCKET SCIENCE. It's not, ANYONE can do this, take your time for perfection.
You got that right!
Thank you for saying this, I'm starting to think I might be able to do it. What's the worst case scenario if I screw up? Can I just rip it off?
The issue is most high end PPF will not warranty your work and will only warranty the ones done by a shop.
@KubanKevin PPF manufacturers only warranty the film from yellowing. Shops should warranty their work quality.
You're totally right... same as car detailers...
Beautiful !! 👏🏽 I really like how you showed mistakes and the solution to them! Thank you. I’m a detailer (5 years) and this new year I’m going to be implementing ppf into my services
Good luck! Shoot me an email at eric@reflectionautomotive.ca if you need any help!
What about the jump cut lmao
hey bro how did it go a year later you doing PPF ??
Any update? I just started doing PPF and it’s hard 😂
You make it look so easy but clearly it takes some talent to do this...and patience.
🙏🙏🙏 patience is important with PPF!
Your patience is incredible. I would have freaked the hell out and broken something.
Best PPF vids out there...straight to the point and provides the need to know details for DIYers. Been corresponding with Eric on a pre-cut set for new Tacoma and he has been unbelievably helpful. Support the channel and business.
Thanks for the kind words and the support! Greatly appreciated!
Extremely interesting and educational for a DIY'er. Thank you for explaining everything in such detail.
Thank you for the kind words and the support. Greatly appreciated!
What's in the tac solution
Made this look so easy.. people have no idea!!
Haha! Thanks!
By far the clearest demonstration I've seen! Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words!
been looking for this kind of video
I am getting my truck and will do it my self.
This video gave me the confidence to do this myself, thank you!!
You’re welcome! If you ever have any questions, shoot me an email at eric@driveprotected.com
Nice video - I liked how you went through the couple of issues that can crop up and how to solve them!
Thank you! Glad you found value in them!
He makes me feel confident I could do it just as well lol he explained it so well
Insane attention to detail.
Thank you!!
What brand of ppf do you use ??
Absolutely awesome video! Huge help for a beginner.
🙏🙏🙏
That tack stuff is crazy. So cool 😎
Awesome job brotha whats in the slip how much per quart
Very good video, not often that mistakes and corrections are shown in videos
Sir, you got a protection on a very great bond. Thank you very much.
Awesome video and thanks for being transparent
Excellent video! I can’t even make my bed without wrinkles in it. So nope, I’m not going to wrap my car!!
Thanks for sharing brother! Great job. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching!! Very much appreciated!!
Amazing video! Took a 3 day class few weeks ago and haven’t been able to get it down. Amazing job explaining the process. Ready to get to practice tomorrow!
Let me know if you need any help! eric@reflectionautomotive.ca
appreciate the video! I just got a new car and am planning on doing this asap. but i have literally zero idea what i'm doing.
Shoot me an email at eric@driveprotected.com
Great video! Thanks!
Excellent video
Thank you!!
Great video! Thanks.
Brilliant. Thanks. What's tack solution and slip solution, please?
Being 5'4" this hood is my most hated that I've done in the 3 years of ppf experience. I'm too damn short to comfortably work around it 😂
I hear ya man! I feel the same way when I get trucks with lift kits in! Lol
you the man! very nicely done and explained
🙏🙏🙏
Outstanding video brother!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!!
Good job nice result
Thank you!!
Amazing video. Really great job....
Great video !!!!
Excellent instruction! I am going to attempt this on a new Bronco with removable hardtop panels. Wrapping around the edge is not possible due to the weather seals. What do you recommend to leave an edge of film exposed near the edge of the panel? How to cut without damage, and ensure the bond will last?
Thank you for the kind words! If the edge of the PPF is near the edge of the panel and properly post heated and sealed off, you shouldn't have anything to worry about with the film potentially lifting.
another great video. I really like them. I am getting ready to do my first PPF install and I am going to order some items from you. I want to support you for making good teaching videos.
Hey man! That’s awesome. Before you order, reach out to me at info@driveprotected.shop and I’ll set you up with a coupon code so you can save some $$
@@DriveProtected Im looking to attempt myself on my 21 sierra. Any tips or discounts?
Hey man, shoot me a email, eric@reflectionautomotive.ca and go over everything you need to know to protect your 21 Sierra. Plus I’ll get you a discount as well!
Really great job ! How much does it cost roughly to do a hood of a Silverado like that ?
$5-600 ish
Nice video
I see slip and tac solution, when are you using either of them, you initially used slip and sometimes you used tac. Got one from you for model y full front.
Slip solution is used to glide the film into place, Tack solution is used lock the film into place. Thank you so much for your support!
For me, DIY stands for " Destroy it yourself"
😂😂😂
Well done !!! 😎👏🏽
Thank you!!
thanks for the tutorial brotha
Outstanding
🙏
i was thinking to use magnet to hold it down for small slipery part
A magnet may work out well
What an amazing video...
So where do you purchase the film for DIY? Most I see is only 12" wide.
Email me at info@driveprotected.shop with what you need and we can get you a price.
What a fantastic video, so well done. Wish you were in my area, I’d pay you to install PPF on my new ride.
🙏🙏🙏
Great work.
I'm looking to ppf my car but there is no one around me domingo that service so have to do it my self or at leat I will tey
Best of luck!!
Great video man thank you!🙏
you should put a link up to where we can get ppf
www.driveprotected.shop
What size is that ppf film and were did you buy it good job thanks for explaining
This would be roughly 60”wide by 75”long. Email me at eric@reflectionautomotive.ca and I can hook you up with the film!
I’ll probably attempt this myself as the shop quoted me nearly 9 grand 🤬.
For how much of the vehicle?
@@DriveProtected For a full body PPF of a 24 ford ranger
That seems a bit excessive.
good job
Thank you!
So when you slammed the squeegee on the hood is that an advanced technique?
Yup. Advanced technique.
Amazing
🙏🙏🙏
What are you spraying below the film?
Slip solution.
Tac solution? Enlighten us please
Solution used to lock the film into place.
I contacted a company in my area that does that and they quoted me $1200 ?????
How much are they protecting for $1,200? The full front end? or just the hood? Cause if its jus the hood, that's crazy!!
I got a quote for F-150 $6,500
Is there an ideal temperature inside your shop for installs? It seems that if it’s too hot the film will set too quickly so what is too hot for an install?
Well I just did an install in a garage in 100 degree weather and we were able to do a successful install. The key is using a TON of slip solution. Ideal temperatures would be 70-85 degrees in my opinion.
How would you deal with existing rock chips in the bumper cover?
Add a tiny bit of touch up paint to it, and wrap over top. Not much you can do once you have some chips on the bumper.
you mention slip solution and tack solution several times... is there a specific mixture you use to make this or is this something you purchase? How do you make if it, if that's the case, or what brand do you use if it is a purchased product? thanks
Slip Solution is 1.5 cc of Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo to 32oz of purified drinking water. Tack Solution is just warm water.
What dies "tack" solution mean
Its the liquid used to tack the film in place.
Thank you for the informative video. I want to do it myself because it’s so expensive at a shop. My question is can you mess it up ? How long did it take to to do this?
Yes you can totally mess it up. My recommendation is that you would find some smaller pieces of film and practice with prior to starting your installation.
@@DriveProtected thank you for quick input.
Any Tips on Snail Trails? I for some reason get them. I must be using to much soap or not enough idk.
Snail trails?
Did this once by myself and left so many air bubbles behind with 3M scotch guard.
I’m planning to try one more time as my front end was repainted
If you need film, let us know at info@driveprotected.shop
Hello, may I ask that no need to use heat gun? btw great vid.
Heat gun was used on edges of the film once done the install. I just don’t always show it in the videos.
What is the tack solution? Alcohol and water?
Yes alcohol and water!
Thanks for the video. Whats in the tack solution exactly?
Just hot water
Your tack solutions, do you use 100% 70 to 90 % rubbing alcohol or do you mix water with it? Thx
Mixed with water and I prefer to use the strongest alcohol I can find. In my case more often than not it’s 90+%
Thank you for this. Trying to do it on my 2022 BMW, you mentioned you preped it already with isopropyl alcohol, what is the dilation rate for it?
I use it straight at 90% to prep the surface!
Hello, I’m looking to do this myself. Where can I purchase the PPF film?
Email me at eric@driveprotected.com and I will hook you up.
what are you using for the slip solution ?
The solution liquid what it is? Water and soap?
Correct. Baby shampoo and water.
Thanks for the video, I live in Iraq and I want to buy roll of film for my 2020 f150 super crew truck,I want to know what size of film I need to buy? For whole truck
Thanks for the kind words! Id guess you'd need 100' of 60" wide film to pull off that full truck wrap successfully.
@@DriveProtected thank you so much
Can you tack down the hood bulk on a fender that has PPF already?
Sure can!
so what should you charge for a bulk Hood 8
Hood like this, $5-600
What’s in the bottle soapy water?
That’s our slip solution.
I’m reading mixed information about how soon you can put “PPF” on fresh paint. Just spraymax 2k Clear, not baked been 70-80 degrees since done. What’s the risks of early application?
Risks of early applications are paint gassing out under film causing bubbles, peeling clear coat and discolouration
If the paint hasn't been baked to cure, go by the clear coat manufacturers recommendations for time before waxing. On my personal vehicles I wait 90 days just to be safe before waxing. Similar will apply to ppf application. You want all the solvents to fully leave the paint before covering it
Hey. What’s a good size roll to buy to do a full frontal ?
60"x50' would be what I would suggest. You would be able to get a couple full fronts out of it.
What are you using for tac solution.
Isopropyl alcohol and water
It seems like a great solution but it sucks on lighter paints. I paid 1200 dollars extra for my pearl white n the dealer charged 400 for this add on. Within a year I started noticing dark areas along the edges...3years later the outline of the film is obvious n looks horrible. Nothing cleans it.
How often are you washing? and how thorough are you with cleaning the edges?
@@DriveProtected there's no hope of cleaning it. The dirt has bonded to the adhesive along the edges and in many spots has made its way under the edge of the film.
Id probably just trim the affected area off.
When you pull and tack down the front corners do you pull straight down or at an angle, if theres 2 people doing a hood do we pull and tack at the same time?
I like to pull in a triangle shape and downwards. If you have an extra set of hands that would be a massive help when pulling/tacking
How much for applying this to a Corolla hood ?
I’d charge around $5-600
What are you using for your tack solution? Isopropyl Alcohol?
How do you avoid getting small trapped air bubbles in the film?
It all comes down to squeegee techniques and ensuring your always overlapping your squeegee strokes. That being said, there is almost always moisture left behind. In those cases we use a diabetics needle to pop them.
@@DriveProtected Should I give it a couple days to clear first or use the needle right after the piece of film is installed?
Do it right after install. It will avoid any bubble lines in the film
Great job but i am just shocked how dirty that motor is considering he's getting the protection done ??
Most country driven vehicles have extremely dirty engine bays around here.
@@DriveProtected Thats fine, i would at least have a weekly little hose down.
Do you have to remove all coating or wax off of the vehicle before install?
Yes you do.
what do you use for tacking solution the 4 corners?
Isopropyl alcohol mixed 70/30 with water
pre-cut better or not ?
On a hood like this bulk is easier in my opinion
What’s the soap to water ratio? (Solution)?
1.5 CC of baby shampoo to 32oz purified water
I spent like 6 hours on my 24 Tacoma hood and screwed it up bad. About shot myself
Does your Tacoma have the hood scoop in the middle? Please don’t shoot yourself.
@@DriveProtected no it's the TRD off-road but the humps on it are really difficult. The humps leave huge air pockets on both side that required me to use a heat gun to stretch the film. This is from a precut kit.
Where can I order the film?
www.DriveProtected.shop
What is that 2 different liquid spray used ?
Slip and tack solution.
Slip solution inner surface of ppf
Tack solution outer surface of ppf
- is it right ?
Slip solution is for inner surface and
Tack solution is for outer surface of ppf
- is it right ?
@version911 watch the video. I go over it into detail in there.
How long do you let the ppf dry before you attempt rolling the edges?
Usually an hour or so.
@@DriveProtected Any tips when doing the full hood of a 2021 Sienna van using bulk ppf? Is the front curve going to present any issues?
Yes. That hood will present issues but if you do the four corner tack and stretch you should be fine. With that hood, a big stretch across the front is going to be needed. Reach out to me at eric@refectionautomotive.ca if you need more direct help
Slip solution = ?
Check out our video on How To Mix PPF Solutions + Tools Needed For PPF Install
What's a tac versus slip solution?
Slip solution is used to glide the film in place whereas tack solution is used to lock the film in place. Hope this helps!
@@DriveProtected What makes up both solutions? And at what mixure?
Slip solution is a mixture of J&J shampoo and water whereas tack solution is isopropyl alcohol mixed with water. Ratios are all dependant on temperature and humidity
@@DriveProtected Thank you for your reply! Great job! Looking at doing the film protection on the bottom third of my suburban! And this looks like the best way of doing that! Protecting from rocks and chips!
I actually just had my car PPF'd. Is it normal to have a finder print under the film or maybe a small piece of dirt? Obviously you want a clean area but can that stuff be prevented? Is it something worth having them fix?
If you’re doing it yourself, yes that may be expected. If it’s done professionally, the fingerprint shouldn’t be there. The spec of dirt isn’t uncommon unless it’s really big
@@DriveProtected Yes, it was done professionally. I think its a finger print but not certain. It's on the hood on the crease. It's not noticeable unless you're looking for it.
All in all it looks like the shop did a good job. They did my last car a couple of years ago but I'm new to PPF and don't know what is normal or if it needed to be redone.
If it were to be redone I also hear it can damage the paint when removing.
If the hoods been repainted, they’re may be potential for damage. Maybe. All depends on how they remove the film.
@@DriveProtected In my case its a brand new car. So I guess it was recently painted from factory. Thank you for the info!
Only wondering as I need to take it back to have the side fender probably redone as it peeled up where the fender goes around the wheel. It wasn't like that for the first few days after and it suddenly was.
Appreciate it!
I think you’ll be fine bringing it back
