This really helped but I still have notes 😧 to write I kinda wish that we didn't have to right the notes . It would be great if I could just draw the diagram 🦄
Helped pretty nicely, but i still have a question (that probably won't get answered but whatever) A question on my homework is what characteristics separates rabbits and primates from crocodiles. I don't really understand that well. My educated guess is hair, since the red line with hair is set on that branching off line and doesn't hit the other ones.
rabbits are not rodents. they are lagomorphs. the screen says "rodents and rabbits" meaning they are two different things, which is accurate. he said "rodents, such as rabbits and mice," implying they are both rodents, but mice are rodents and rabbits are not. :)
1.) In this exact cladogram, are amphibians equally related to primates and birds. If so, why or why not? 2.) Are amphibians more related to primates than ray finned fish, and if so, why or why not?
can a cladogram tell if a species is homologous or analogous or it it not possible to tell? I mean i do see the traits they share just don't know if it was from their common ancestors or from environmental changes
Its 5 in the morning, I have my final in three hours and this is really the best video I could find on this topic, considering that I am from Germany and THERE IS NOT A SINGLE FUCKING VIDEO IN MY LANGUAGE ABOUT THIS
This isn't even a cladogram this is a phylogenetic tree... while there isn't a HUGE difference, it's a big enough one that if you want to speak on the topic you should know.
So how do you know which is closer related when you compare the tuna to the shark and frog? is the frog more closely related? or how do i know which is more closely related when looking at the ancestry betwen birds and sharks, and tuna and sharks...?
You have to look at their homologs. The hallmarks of determining homologs are: 1. Same basic structure/pattern (ex. humerus, radius, ulna, etc.) 2. Same embryology (ex. pharyngeal pouches, post-anal tails etc. in embryos) 3. Same relationships to adjacent structures (ex. human hair vs spider hair) 4. Same composition - Chemical makeup (ex. insect leg is an exoskeleton and is made up of keratin, whereas vertebrates have bone (calcium phosphate). They're not compatible) Sharks are cartilaginous, fish are bony, frogs are tetrapods. Each of those characteristics are derived homologs or primitive characteristics depending on your perspective.
+Tori Bill are you sure? It looks like the hair trait is exclusively applied to primates and rodents since it branches off. I'm not sure though you are probably right.
here i am watching this video for my online bio class, falling asleep.

Why you did not talk about the “hair” section at all !!!!!
ikr?!

This video is awesome and teaches so much more in a much less difficult way. Amazing work, thanks for helping me!!
Thank you for making this video! It explained this much more clearly than my bio textbook
My teacher spends too much time explaining it in class. This man can just spend 9 minutes and I get it completely.

plz put 1.25x speed, you sound much better! thanks anyway tho, but we havent watched yet. will update after we watch
Absolutely fantastic video. Helped me greatly with upcoming exam !
Why are these so confusing, either the way my professor taught us is what’s confusing or I just don’t comprehend how this is done
Thank you so much for this! This helps a lot since it's hard to understand with just reading the modules
Thank you it helped sooooooooooooooooo much

Well, if the answer is specifically to be found in your homework, then hair is what they are after.
Im doing my BS in Pakistan and this was just awesome lecture. Zoology by Miller and Harley.

The four limbs is a bit of a misnomer, snakes are in that clade but have no legs

thankyou for uploading this! it helped so much
but shark and ra-fiined have gills so will both will have same ancestor or not ?
any 2 organisms have the same ancestor
thank you so much for this, you just saved my life I love you fr
Crocodilians is the correct term and yes he used it because it is a scientific term
and fishes is the correct plural noun
Karthik K I hope your were being sarcastic because “fish” is already in the plural form.
when you talk about the same species

Yes, wings are like arms.

Which one would be the most recent ancestor according to this diagram?
Arilertzy Gaeta birds
Cladists have the goal of finding the most parsimonious phylogeny. Parsimonious: one with the fewest evolutionary steps.
1.) In this exact cladogram, are amphibians equally related to primates and birds. If so, why or why not?
2.) Are amphibians more related to primates than ray finned fish, and if so, why or why not?
No1 because of four limbs
No2 because of the 4 limbs they have a closer ancestor
1.) the answer is do your own homework
2.) same answer as last
Thank you sooo much, thought i was gonna fail
does anybody else feel like they just cant do it lol. this video makes sense but school in general.
I hope our professor bring such this questions in the exam
Why is it just only today that i totally understood this thing? Or maybe i am not just listening to my systematics professor. Lol
