David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do and he makes it look so damn easy! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! David is an awesome talent. Loved your reaction and your takeonit. You should really see their live performance on Conan!

50+ year old song re-envisioned by a (HEAVY METAL BAND?) 5+ years ago!! What an awesome cover! Disturbed killed it... especially in their live Conan version, FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE

Something to know about David Draman: he is classically vocal trained artist.
About this song: it was written by Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel following a dream he had about 10K people bowing to a "neon" god, aka TV, ("talking without speaking- hearing withoutlistening"). It originally was not set for release but was used in a movie starring Dustin Hoffmann, called "The Graduate." It hit the airways soon after and became an anthem song for S&G and subsequently one of their top hits. The song was written as a warning to not let technology become your "god," forsaking those we love in the process.
Now, fast forward 50-plus years to 2015 when it was recorded by David and Disturbed. Their cover takes the song one step further from the "warning" of the original recording to the "admonition and anger" of "the why did you not listen???!!?" David does a phenomenal job vocally expressing this without changing a single word.
His cover is said to be the only S&G cover that Paul Simon ever downloaded, and one of his favorites.

David Draiman was raised as an Orthodox Jew and his amazing voice is due to the fact that not only was he born with it, but he is also a trained Cantor.

When Paul Simon actually heard this he linked it to his own website, saying this performance was as he wanted it to be performed.
Also, you HAVE to see the Conan live version!

You definitely need to watch the live version on Conan. Absolutely amazing, the best live performance EVER!!!! The fact that he was sick when he performed it makes it all the more impressive.

This has become a standard for the band, always expected at their live gigs!
David and his brother were classically trained singers. He turned to metal and his brother is an opera singer.
Paul Simon said he wrote this after a dream and the meaning is still argued about.
The video I feel talks of the rediscovery of lost music. One island find the sheet music, the other find the instruments and travel to them...
Paul Simon saw THIS very performance on Conan and loved it.
Poor David was really poorly with a bad cold when he sung it on Conan, so I urge you to watch the official video to hear David in top form and the visuals really add to the music.

you are correct. He sings heavy metal. This performance is a rare thing he did. But he is vocally trained so he can do anything he wants.

Great reaction. To me Simon and Garfunkel the original writers and performers of this song were telling us back in the 60’s when I first heard the song to get our shit together or the future won’t be pretty and this version is saying oh well the shit has now hit the fan!!!!! Just saying.

My following comments are from watching the original B&W 4K Cover video: OMG, the tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed performing their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" which was phenomenal 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". NOTE: For those interested, here's some history on Paul Simon, who wrote the song in 1964. Watch their video from back then. It's a whole different vibes. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sound_of_Silence I'm 75 and was 15 when they released one of the most popular, iconic classical songs of our time during the 60's. It's amazing how relevant it is today. Actually, I feel it is even more relevant now more than ever, by how we're so attached to our electronics and don't actually share our thoughts and feelings with each other. Because of that, it actually becomes more difficult to do so. We are losing our ability to really be able to communicate with each other. No wonder we've become so divided. I've spent days listening and seeing the many Reactional channel hosts and each of your reactions and hearing all of your comments, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I still 😢 almost every time I watch and listen to it. I've also noticed that more males have shown more emotion and gotten teary-eyed than the females, just an observation. Thanks, from Diane😊❤

The bible warns against the beast from the sea,the beast from the land and the beast coming up from the underground. These are 3 different alien nation living in our oceans, underneath the surface of our earth and in our volcanoes or caves. The bible warns that humans will make a image of the beast from the sea, then the beast from the land will give a spirit to this Image humans have made.Compare this image with the neon god we are warned against in this song,The sound of silence, where humans make, bow to and pray to this neon god they have made and you find yourselves in Revelation. So what can we do,there are only one thing we can do and that is to seek the God of the Bible like never before. The bible warns that christians during the judgment say to Jesus,We performed many miracles in your name,we casted out demons in your name, etcetera,Then he say to them,Go away from,I have never known you.So remember what God needs and wants from me may not be the same things God needs and wants from you so be sure to seek this real God from the bible and get to know him,ask him to help you to get to know him in prayer and allow God to get to know you, then do his will for your life.2 Witness alien nations who will be righteous christian aliens will fight against 3 beast alien nations or races.I have asked from God and was told that the ghost of the president of America,JFK Kennedy was the person who was inspired in his sleep of death to bring this massage of warning to Paul Simon,to inspire Simon to wrote it down.
