    12% of a large flare hitting the earth is uncomfortably high. It seems low, but not low enough for it to be unlikely to happen in our lifetimes.

    Long story short: If the Sun shits the bed then technology shits the bed

    I'm concerned about how people would get their news about this. Now a days most people don't look at the newspaper, and it'll probably leave many confused as to what's going on with their electronics.

      by the way the story is if the 2012 CME did hit the earth and if it was ejected not on the 23rd but the 14th

    How do satellites move around in space?

    • @ElementFreakYT
      @ElementFreakYT  3 года назад +6

      In orbit, I believe they adjust their courses by either expelling quick jets gases or with small blasts from thrusters. Otherwise, their orbital motion is maintained by, no joke, constantly falling sideways around the Earth

    The last CME to hit the earth wasn't the Carrington event, in fact as I write this comment one born from a 3-4 wave "cannibal CME" spat out by a Carrington-sized sunspot is creating a powerful geomagnetic storm. Not quite Carrington powerful but as you can probably tell, civilization hasn't ended yet. Damage to orbital infrastructure would be significant but our terrestrial power grids have long been hardened against solar flares (especially after one fucked over Canada) and the fibre optic cables under the ocean aren't reliant on conductive media like telegraph wires. Wish you'd done more research for this video because it's a fascinating topic, but you have to dig through a lot of sensationalist bullshit which I think you unfortunately found yourself mired in.
