The rubber in the hub is called a cush drive, it keeps you from cracking your hub with a chain drive on the street 👍

@@GrindHardPlumbingCo no, the rubber pieces are replaceable, there's usually 5 or 6 of them
All the talk about no experience on a street bike, followed by having no idea what a cush drive was, had me giggling.
Well in some bikes it's one piece, in some it's several separate pieces. For the most part, you really want one on street, but if you manly do offroad, like enduro and cross, the loose underground is your cushioning, so it's not needed there.

The rear wheel rubber pieces are normal as long as all the pieces were there. Its a cush drive to make take off and shifting less violent on the chain and sprockets. :)

Actual groms have the rubber inserts too. Actually most street going bikes do. It’s called a cushdrive. It lessens drivetrain shock.

That rear wheel full of bits of rubber is very similar to a Honda cush drive used on lots of small capacity bikes. The new rubber comes as 4 pieces total
Many different motorcycles use them. You can buy polyurethane versions to stiffen it up.

No just small capacity bikes, most all street bikes old and new have cush drives

The rubber in thw rear wheel is a kush drive setup. Factory on alot of bikes and big on stuntable bikes. Takes the shock away from the hub on clutch up wheelies

My 660Z Tenere had the same. You can wrap the rubber with a cut up old inner tube to keep them going longer

@@GrindHardPlumbingCo one some models yes. The oe grom has 2 pucks joined together (4 pair), my klr650 they're all joined together. Being that its a Chom I'm kinda surprised it even has a cush.

Those rubber pieces in the rear wheel are the cush drive rubbers, they come in every chain driven street bike
Also on pit bikes my klx110l and ttr110 have them also and my klx250s doesn't big dirtbike doesn't

All I did to my grom was exhaust, cam, aftermarket ecu, and a intake. Threw dirt tires on it and have just absolutely beat it since 2018, strictly off-road doing as much hard enduro as you can on a grom lol

That rubber shoved in the rear wheel is called a Lovejoy coupling. It needs to be there, hope you put it back in.

remind me of my previous dirtbike which is a kawasaki ksr 110 (very similar to the honda grom) and i change the tires to dirtbike tires change the sprockets remove some weights and it was so fun to drive until i blew the engine and sold it

My Grom has close to 1000 off road. Took it to Tillamook State Forest once, took it to Moab twice and it's been over Slick Rock and The White Rim Trail once and Hells Revenge twice

those rubber things in the wheels are supposed to take up some if the jerk when dumping the clutch, its kinder to the engine. and yes, real bikes have them too, my zx9r has them, i think even my ktm sm has them.

I always thought a grom could make a good offroad bike. Maybe if you extended the wheel base a bit it wouldn't be so wonky?
