Hi Kelly, I have just found your channel. In the UK we have a similar cake called a boiled fruit cake. It’s the same ingredients but the method is slightly different. We boil the fruit in the butter, sugar and alcohol first, allow to cool then add the eggs and the dry ingredients last. The alcohol can be brandy or rum or both, if you prefer. Really enjoy your videos thank you 😊
I didn’t realize it was so easy to make great cake. My great gran used to bake them. Looks very good. Question: Instead of browning, would I be able to use brown food dye?
I don't understand why people say rum cake, rum cake is like usual plain yellow cake with rum added for the rum flavour. This dark fruit does not have rum alone, it is a mix of rum, wine and falernum in Barbados. It can be done with out alcohol too, use grape juice or malt or stout like Guiness. I have done it with the malt or stout and I have steamed it. Steaming was the original way of doing that cake.
Hi Looks really delicious Did you leave the fruits soaking on the counter top,or did you put them in the refrigerator? Thanks for taking your time to share this 'must do' recipe
Hi. Can you pour some grapejuice over the cake when it's finished, much like some people do if it was alcohol. Wouldn't pouring grapejuice over it add to making the cake more moist? Thanks again for your time Much appreciated
