- In this intermediate banjo lesson, Will teaches how to play simple vocal songs in the keys of G, C, and D. And by learning to play in these three keys, with a capo you'll be able to play in any key. This is especially helpful if you need to play in a different key to fit your lead vocalist's range. It's also just great practice and a way to learn more about your instrument.
And here's a handy table of how to play in each of most common keys:
G - Open in G position
A - G position capo 2nd fret
Bb - G position capo 3rd fret
B - G position capo 4th fret
C - G position capo 5th fret OR C position no capo
D - C position capo 2nd fret OR D position no capo
E - C position capo 4th fret OR D position capo 2nd fret
F - D position capo 3rd fret
And for D position remember to spike your 5th fret appropriately. For open D, use the 5th string spike to tune to A.
I have been a banjo teacher for many years. This is an excellently explained video and provides essential knowledge and tools that will help banjo players of any level.
Well done!
Thanks!
