Indeed, it's sounds like Master of Puppets and also the main riff of the Painkiller by Judas Priest. And the outro has some influences from the Hall of the Mountain King by Savatage.
That’s because it basically is. The development team for the original game were all big metal fans so they asked the composer, Bobby Prince, to try and do stuff similar to what they were listening to at the time. He pretty shamelessly ripped off a number of metal songs for the soundtracks to the first two Doom games. For this one, I’ve heard that it’s a riff from “No Remorse” by Metallica but also heard that it’s supposed to be a DRI song too (can’t remember the name.) There’s a bunch of videos on RUclips that show side-by-side comparisons.
