OH MY GOD! this proves that you are the greatest Harmonica player ever lived! I have many of your albums Lee also with your group WAR. I grew up listening to you in high school. Before the Rain I play endlessly. You still got it Lee! Make a comeback with WAR! Please!!
My friend Robert Hale got to see Lee Oskar last weekend (Oct 2015) and says he is as always great to listen to. As a harp player I am in awe of his vocabulary and skills, as a musician I just love his grooves.
This is the only man in the WORLD that could hang with Stevie Wonder on the Harmonica ! The only reason i give Stevie the edge is NOT ONLY IS STEVIE BLIND, He's written 1000's of song's & Has 100's that went certified GOLD/PLATINUM. But Lee Oskar is Truly AMAZING !
Right - while you're playing the harp, you can't see it anyway. AND, what about Magic Dick from J. Giles Band? He's done some pretty good stuff with and without that band. I think he could hang with both Stevie Wonder and Lee Oskar.
You can"t compare Stevie Wonder to anyone,he is in a leage of his own. This is not the best Lee Oscar that I"ve heard, but the best pure Harmonica gay"s are still,Little Walther,Little Sonny, old Sonny the second, and Sonny Terry, not much happend on record, but put him on a stage, and he blew your head clean of.And way back in the day, there was a gay named Larry Adler,he could play anything on a cromatic Harmonica,in style, very classy fellow,he was.
I like the people you mentioned as harmionica players of renown, but you missed many who are as good or better harmonica technical and soulful players. John Sebastian Sr., Toots Thielemans, Lee Oskar, Kim Wilson, Jason Ricci, Sonny Boy Williamson I & II Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Paul Butterfield, Norton Buffalo, Jerry Portnoy, Corky Siegel, Buddy Green, Charlie McCoy, Howard Levy, Annie Raines, Hans Olson, Chris Michalek, Robert Bonfiglio, and so many more young and upcoming players. I skipped some because a lot is taste and yours and mine are not the same so nobody's list is complete or right. Give any of these a listen and you will hear excellence in harmonica and music. I have had some off your list but only still have Stevie Wonder because of his versatility and musicality. Others are as good or please me more.
+lennyharp Ive been playing harp for over 40yrs now and man you metioned alot of the greats and Charlie McCoys live ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL! wow! i heard Charlie McCoy live at Fairfax High School in Va for $7 thats the very first time i heard a harmonica played that fast
He is a great composer and musician, but not at all in a league of his own with harmonica. I like his sound and style using the harmonica but prefer many others who have specialized in the harmonica. I love music not just published stuff.
Okay I agree with a lot of what you said but I can't stop laughing because you keep calling everyone gays. lol Sophmoric I know but thought the typo was funny.
Lee never, and I mean NEVER sounds like Little Walter...and that's a good thing. Nothing against Walter, but every white middle aged harp player who can afford a hat and a Hawaiian shirt seems to want to sound like Walter....I play harp and don't want a Green Bullet Mic ...sadly it seems to be overdone. Rock on Mr. O
hey Mickey you just described me to the T. LOL but I always loved Lee. I just wasn't good enough to sound like him and there are zero bands playing his music in the local venues so.. I chose blues. but.... I'm beginning to think.. jazz jams... that is where you take this style and you'd probably rule the set!
MY LATE HUSBAND AND I WENT TO SEE WAR IN THE 70TH I LOVE WAR WHEN MR OSKAR STARTED TO PLAY THAT HARP IT TOOK ME TO ANOTHER PLACE AND TIME PLAY ON AND ON LEE OSKAR MAY GOD BLESS WAR AND MR OSKAR THE MUSIC THAT THE GROUP'S PLAYED BACK IN THE 60 70TH I LOVE IT MUSIC NOW I DO NOT LIKE WELL I AM FROM OLD SCHOOL GROUND FOLKS MUSIC WELL TO EACH IT'S ON KEEPING ON KEEPING ON OLD SCHOOL MUSIC JAMM THANK YOU
Fabulous harpist but much prefer chromatics, playing or listening. It doesn't matter what piece Lee - or any other diatonic user - plays, it sounds like any other 'Sesame Street' tune to my ear* Search Sesame Street kids, you'll never be comfy listening to these harps. That should bring out a few haters, ha! *only one of mine works.

castortroykrb How does Stevie being blind factor into a harmonica rating at all?
Right - while you're playing the harp, you can't see it anyway. AND, what about Magic Dick from J. Giles Band? He's done some pretty good stuff with and without that band. I think he could hang with both Stevie Wonder and Lee Oskar.

try taking it apart and cleaning with rubbing alcohol. or just blow super hard. the reeds may be just stuck
What was the song
Danish Pastry, check that out...
Preceded by Mr Charlie! The first I heard of War and Lee! I've been stuck ever since...
Jeez !
Who came up with the tuning, Carlos Del Junco or Lee?
guess its richter tuning, otherwise it would be MelodyMaker tuning, so it was Oskars invention.
carlos once mentioned that the B-Thing- tuning is from lee, ❤
"i gotta pee" dance
WOW! ive been playing harp for over 30yrs and i consider myself average. Didnt know Lee Oskar was so awesome
