Welcome to the Masterclass series for the Acrylic Portrait Painting Challenge, where I will be your guide, showing you the ENTIRE process to creating an acrylic portrait you can be proud of, step-by-step!
In this sixth of several lessons, you will learn how to define boundaries of skin tones on the face to make them look realistic. You will also learn two specific methods to create smooth shading. I do this using the time-tested acrylic glazing technique. It's a fantastic way to build up depth and realism!
I encourage you to watch the WHOLE video from start to finish, because I have several helpful tips hidden throughout. That way, you will know exactly how to make your sketch fantastic!

I love the way this portrait is coming along. The skin tones in the shadow area already look so lifelike! I love the nice zoomed-in camera angle and all the detailed instruction, Matt. Looking forward to the bonus videos in the course.

I'm really enjoying seeing this portrait coming to life. I had no idea just how much attention had to be paid to the smallest detail in colour changes. This course is really changing the way I look at painting. Thank you for doing it.

Thanks to you, Matt Philleo, I'm able to paint my mom's portrait, who just passed away recently. Again, thank you so much for sharing your technique.

Love it, I’m going to try and add some of the light blueish color to the background of mine and a little bit of warmer colors to the hat.

What do u mean by glazes ...sorry for my ignorance

Hi Calista, glazes are mixtures of paint with clear medium (acrylic resin with no pigment added) It makes the paint semi-transparent so you can layer it for more depth, luminosity and blending capabilities.
