New Painting! Lion and the Soldier: establishing contrast with first glaze using acrylic

I'm EXCITED to be working on a new painting called, "He Goes Ahead Of Us." It's a commissioned 16" x 20" acrylic on canvas portrait of a Lion and a soldier, symbolic of Jesus who fights our battles, as we follow His lead. We can go through any trial, dangerous and fiery as it may be, with confidence, because He is our shield and strengthens us during our fight of faith!
In this video tutorial, I will show you how I begin. I have a precise method, but each painting is unique and requires a slightly different approach, based on the imagery.
I have decided to launch right onto the sketch with a glaze, using a mixture of approx. 90% matte medium, 6% ultramarine blue, and 4% raw umber dark.
Next, I will be following that up with a glaze of approximately 90% matte medium/ 10% organic orange. (upcoming video) The goal is to primarily establish the value structure of the painting, and secondarily to establish the color structure, dividing between light and dark, cool and warm. I want to keep things very simple in the beginning stages.
