    I got the bracket and was dumbfounded that EVGA wouldn't provide a list or any further info on how this bracket is actually used in a case for support. Makes them look stupid IMO

    • @ThisBytesForYou

      I was too, even worse when I called support and they didn't even know or have a list... not sure why they even included it, but it is what it is I guess.

    That bracket is intended for more off-the-shelf workstation type cases (think Dell/HP/etc). Brackets like that come pre-installed or integrated into the design of most workstation-class graphics cards and the chassis generally has a way to mount it in-place.
    If you notice, the bracket has a very enterprise/industrial look to it, much like the inside of a server or workstation where aesthetics is not a concideration.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  3 года назад +5

      Yeah that's what support had told me, but he did not have a list of what cases had it, kind of frustrating.

  • @FFE-js2zp
    @FFE-js2zp 3 года назад +17

    Its cheaper and mostly invisble to tie a knot in some clear fishing line after threading it through a gfx card screw hole and tie it off at the top of the case. It won't fall off, like the MSVDSGF.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  3 года назад +3

      You are right but it won't be as functional is you need to move around a lot in your PC, the stand works great and doesn't fall, unless you are moving around a lot in your PC, which you can just move it for the time being.

  • @e2rqey

    Yeah I got this card today and also have that case and it just dawned on my how tight of a fit it was going to be! Glad to see you can still manage to get it in there.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  3 года назад +1

      yeah, after a little while, like now for me, the cables have been trained and it slides in a lot easier. Now, I can literally slide the side panel on and off without having to force it in.

  • @esau817
    @esau817 Год назад +2

    Great content, but I feel like this video was for everything but the EVGA bracket lol, is it safe to bend any PCIE cable from other PSU brands? Been thinking to put my GPU vertically instead, that way the PCIE would be less forced.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  Год назад +1

      The entire "Safe to bend" thing started with the 16 pin cable, it never existed before, I've been building for over 25 years (it was my job for over 10 years), its never been an issue.
      Vertical cards potentially get hotter, they are pushed VERY close to the glass unless of course, you remove the panel, like you have to do with the Y60, then you have to worry about the riser being subpar, which causes a TON of issues.
      As for the everything but, I guess you didn't watch it, because I showed you how you could use it, but as I mentioned in the video, EVGA themselves told me that it was made for a VERY small segment of people since it would fit a VERY small niche of cases, the MHQJRH bracket takes care of it.

    If you know someone with a 3d printer, have them design an upper case letter L for you. You will be drilling holes in the bottom of the L to match the anti-sag bracket (or 2 screw holes already on other cards). The L will sit in your case at the end of the card but rotated 180 degrees so that the thin part extends to the bottom of your case near the motherboard and 2 screws will go into the bracket holes. Bonus points if you have a countersink bit. It will be near invisible and with proper measurements... extremely effective.
    Edit: BTW, if you do go with the $15 support (which I do have one that has to be sent back now)... take a look at the ones with magnetic bases. Moving the case can cause the gpu to bounce a little and the non-magnetic stand will just fall over onto/into stuff.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  3 года назад +1

      Sadly I don't have a 3D Printer, and not many do but with that even if I did I wanted to provide a solution best for all, this $13 solution in this video is adjustable, black anodized aluminum, has soft rubberized pads for your card and the base to sit on to not scratch the card or your case and also has a magnetized base, everything you could ask for, cheaper than what you mentioned too ;)
      But yeah, life would be easier if we all had 3DPrinter. I am trying to get one to review, have been approached by 3 different companies, but after I give them my address to ship.... they disappear... awesome aint it ;)

    • @easyperl

      @@ThisBytesForYou Just an fyi, many libraries have 3d printers available for public use. They are also prevalent at the middle school through college level institutions for those with kids or attending themselves. For those that fit the availability above, it is all free including the used filament. Like anything, it generally takes more work to DIY than just to pay amazon. Just offering more solutions... which shouldn't be a bad thing.

      @@easyperl no, not taken bad at all, and I love the input, though it may sound like I did not. Thank you my friend for your kind words and I am so very happy I could help you. I wish I knew why, but it is what it is I guess. The bracket I used afterwards is from Amazon and is in the link. One thing is that these guys, EVGA, Asus, MSI, etc make VERY little on the sale, maybe $30. NVIDIA charges a lot of the GPU, then in this case EVGA has to put in all their things, so they don't make very much. Putting in an additional cooler, the price would go up. Since everyone has their thing, many people would probably throw out the bracket, even if it were better for a different type.

      Oh btw so the RGB on the EVGA 3080s/3090s FTW3 can only be accessible via a 4-pin connector? That's strange, I never had any cards that required extra pin to light up.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  4 года назад +1

      Can't blame NVIDIA, they have to make their money, AMD does the same though they do it with more, since they sell the chipsets for motherboards and Intel as well with their Chipset's, nothing in life is free. This is why NVIDA/AMD say during their videos, MSRP, because they sell it for a few dollars below that price to give AIB's room to charge something reasonable.
      No, the 4Pin connector is for additional power, you don't need to use that, unless the unit you have for RGB requires that.

The place this mount is installed looks like it takes the place of the bottom right fan. Oh wait, we may have been on a different page. I was thinking about your case as being the one I'm building with, the Lian Li Dynamic o11. Alternatively, prior to installing the support bracket, simply place it against the support rod platform, lengthwise. Mark the area where the holes on the bracket are, and simply drill some small hole, affix the support bracket to the bar platform using the screws, then install. It looks like there are spare cables on the inside all tied up and tucked away, but doesn't appear to be a part of the group that they put for the GPU. I have a 1080ti currently and want to upgrade. Just not experienced with building my own or messing with the PSU/cables.

      @@justinb6790 No worries my friend, I am always happy to help. You might want to pull those cables out and see what is there to use, you might get lucky. Now, Cyberpower is a decent Boutique shop, but they do a lot of budget things, so there is a chance it does not have it.
      If they dont have it included, there is a chance it is a semi-modular power supply, which means it migth have sockets for additional connections, but it might mean you need to pull the power supply out. Check the cables first, make sure there are 3 seperate cables that are either 8Pin completely, but it is Ok to use 6+2Pin cables as well, it is not OK to daisy chain the cables though.
      What i mean by that, is if 1 cable has an 8Pin, then it has a hook off of it that has another 8 or a 6+2, dont use both of those, only use one of those 2. If you can't find them, and the power supply is not semi-modular, you may need to buy a new one, but here is a video I made on installing the card, very easy to follow: ruclips.net/video/A2aqpr05-WA/видео.html
      If you are looking for a power supply, you can check in the description of that video, I have my Amazon affiliate link to a 1000Watt power supply I use in this video. I hope I have helped you my friend.

    Thank you for making this video. I have been wondering about this ever since I saw it. I already know my case won't have anything for it. I have seen a different method using just a single case screw mounted from the back of the case where the video card tabs are installed. The screw is installed in the top above the top tab preventing the video card from sagging.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  4 года назад +2

      anytime my friend, but in this case, where I had an E-ATX case, that wouldn't work for me and anyone else with an E-ATX board so the additional bracket I bought, pretty cheap too, fit's the bill perfectly. Thanks so much for stopping by and your kind words, it means a ton to me.

    • @FSDraconis
      @FSDraconis 4 года назад +1

      @@ThisBytesForYou I am confused. I am not terribly familiar with e-atx cases. Shouldn't the plate at the rear of the video card (where the display ports are) have tabs that extend into the internal backing plate that the motherboard attaches to?
      When I was watching your video I briefly considered the idea of using fishing line to that EVGA support. But then considered it would look even worse.
      I don't dislike the price or the look of the black anodized metal support.

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  4 года назад +2

      @@FSDraconis E-ATX is a motherboard standard, it's a longer board, so it requires a longer case,... which requires more stand-offs and posts. So screwing the support bracket they included in the box to a standoff hole, would not work. In order for an E-ATX motherboard to fit into a case, the case needs to support an E-ATX motherboard, so it's kind of a 2 part process. Yes the video card has a top that extends to the IO of the case, where you screw the card into, but then the rear of the card has all it's weight dependant on the PCIE slot, and this card is heavy, that is why the support bracket here makes sense.
      I hope that helps?

    • @FSDraconis
      @FSDraconis 4 года назад +1

      @@ThisBytesForYou Gotcha. In the first post I was not suggesting using the bracket. I was referring to the tabs from the rear plate of the video card. Usually (but not always) the case has slots for those tabs that have too much slop. It isn't designed to, but I have seen the results of installing a screw from the rear of that slot above the tab to help push that corner down.
      I don't know if that will be enough for the heft of the 3080. So this could all be moot.
      My Corsair Graphite Series 780T won't be able to use the support bracket. So I will probably find a similar solution like you did.

      Nice dude, congrats. I don't think the bracket it comes with will work for you, but in the description I have a link for an inexpensive bracket which I still use today and it works great. let me know how it goes for you and if you have any questions.

      Nah, it's always great to have you video card and system looking great and added stress to your pcie slot is not good, anti sag is pretty awesome.

    It's kind of unfortunate that this is an issue in the first place and that the MB manufacturers haven't devised a better way of installations that are still ATX standard. I've seen some strange standoff board addons that sort of make it different, but they're not a standardized fix either.

      Supporting the weight is more for the job off the case, but the 3090 is very large and requires an actual steel case

      Even still I have had cards sag , these gpu support brackets do the job perfectly

      @@ThisBytesForYou I fortunately don't need mine for my evga 3080ti, but my evga 3090ti in the mail seems to be coming with an e-leash, if it has the retention bracket ill just use that instead because my case has plenty strength but we shall see

      @@Jakevoss96 I am curious as to that e-leash, kinda funny/sad feature, but at least it comes with the card, so that's cool. Sadly since I am a small reviewer, that card is too much for EVGA to send it to me, hopefully one day I will get there, but I have had to buy all my cards to review.
