I enlisted in the Navy yesterday. If I get stationed at a command that wears leather boots I'll be sure to have the best looking boots thanks to your videos.
If you’re ever in San Diego let me know
Not just your boots but your low quarter ( shoes ) as well
Portuguese craftsmanship 🇵🇹💪🏻👍
Now those boots were made for walking, Nice!
Carlos santos is a phenomenal shoe maker such high quality. I treated myself to the carlos santos for pediwear wyer boot! I absolutely love them.
Awesome! I love mine
I own 4 pairs of Carlos Santos shoes (loafers, Oxford, derby) and they are getting immediate compliments from everyone. They are by far much better looking shoes than my Allen Edmonds. Once I have to CS, and Spanish shoes, I cannot go back to Allen Edmonds.
khairkhana3 wow this is interesting to know that they beat allen edmonds! But yes the patina choice they have is incredible for their range of shoes!
We want to see them on!!
Agreed! Please show these boots to us on your feet.
How cool are those boots? I love how you took a brand new boot to a higher level. You’re amazing!
Btw, I thought the music complimented that particular boot perfectly.
Thanks! I’m so excited to wear these today!
My honor to be featured in your channel Preston. Thank you 🙏
Thank you, Kostas!
Good looking boots. Always a joy watching you shine. Thanks for sharing Preston.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching
Excellence as always!
Thanks for the inspiration for me to put in that extra time to make the difference between good enough and great shine job on my shoes.
Thanks for watching
Keep at it,you won’t regret it.
Another fantastic video
Definitely a nice and unique boot. I like that it’s not too on the fancy side. A boot should be a boot at the end of the day. I’m sure you’ll keep them nice and shined but I think with just some basic care (conditioning) and letting a more natural patina take effect they would look great as well.
You are a true Master and an Artist at what you do and I watch your work with great interest.
I appreciate that
Awesome boots!! I loved how you tended to new shoes. It shows how much you care for shoes, old or new.
Thanks for watching!
Those are beautiful boots and great job on the Shine
Thanks, Shaun
Wow! I can never afford something like that. One can only dream. It's beautiful.
These are definitely less expensive than the Galway which is $1200
Don’t say I can’t afford them, say how can I afford them. Change your way of thinking, you’re closing the door went u say I can’t afford something but went u say how can I afford it, your brain starts to work on how can you obtain that particular thing it works like magic trust me.
To be honest, these CS boots are very very reasonably priced compared to the shoe they’re based after (The Edward Green Galways)
One of your best videos yet. Love this channel.
Thanks! I’m glad you liked it
Love your boots and as usual they look 10 times better after you finished with them!😎
Thanks 🙏
Beautiful dress boots man. I’m from SD also. Really nice
Wow! Nice boots! Nice shine!
Thanks!
Thanks for introducing a different approach to the mirror shine.
Great video. This brand needs more exposure.
100% agree
beautiful boots, thank you for sharing the tips and insights. That is very generous of you.
My pleasure!
ASMR. Excellent.
i really love your videos very professional
Killer shine brother! The finger application of the wax is the way to go👌
You’re right bro. Learn something everyday
Recently I've been speaking to you about this subject. Thank you so much for this tutorial
Yes! Good to see you here on RUclips
It’s awesome that you’ve optimized your mirror shine time compared to an hour+ like in the past
This method is much faster
Fantastic looking boots. I'm with you, love the combo of suede and calfskin
Thanks for watching!
I will try this alternative mirror shine next time. Sounds faster than the usual way.
It is!
Beautiful presentation! Great job! Love your channel.
Thanks, Hector!
love the tip of using an ice cube to get cold water to harden the waxes... Thanks.
Thanks for watching
Very nice work
Thank you!!!
Outstanding!
Thank you!
My brother those boots are killers wend you put your touch the look great thanks for sharing 🤙
Thanks, David!
Liked!
While these boots are not to my personal taste I do appreciate the craftsmanship and skill that have gone into making - and shining - them, so thank you for sharing this experience
Thanks for watching, Mike
Hi Preston! In addition to the way you polish all these fine shoes, I love your watches! That’s a lovely vintage Seiko Turtle 🐢! I’m a big Seiko fan myself, snagged me a skx013 before the discontinuation announcement.
Thanks, David. This seiko divers was my uncles. It’s from 79 I think. Love wearing it. I’m glad you snagged one! Great choice!
You should show the reactions when the owners pick up there shoes
They unfortunately don’t pick them up most of the time as most videos are mail orders.
that’s too bad you do amazing work it’s a shame your don’t see there reactions that’s the best part of a job well done us seeing there reactions to your work
Thank you, Deadpool
Beautiful boots! Wear in good health!
Thank you 🙏
You must have bought these from thenobleshoe. I have purchased from Kostas before. Will do so again.
Billy Wayne it was from me indeed!
Kostas. Nice write up on your visit to the Carlos Santos factory!
@@brandonweinert7954 Glad you enjoyed it!!
Great shoes to start & even better how you enhance the beauty of them ..... my only fear would be getting any polish / wax on the suede 😬
Yeah you need to be careful. I found applying polish with your fingers will help for control
Great shine Preston! I love Carlos Santos especially for lace up designs. However, I feel that buying them as an alternative to the Galways from E.G. is not a great idea. Sure C.S. is about 1/4 of the price, but unless you're buying it on an extreme discount to get a "feel" for the style, I think those boots serve only as a $400 setback. But I respect your decision. As another Carlos Santos customer I can certainly say those boots will serve you well in the meantime.
Fantastic x
Thanks!
Well done! That's a fascinating pair of boots. Makes me wonder if I can find something like those in used shoes listings.
Preston is a g.

HELLO, PRESTON!! Those are very unique boots, kind of pretty. I'd enjoy seeing a fashion show, with how different outfits work with all your various shoes and boots! I like how the toe area is a touch darker than the body of the boot. Very nice, Preston! 🎩
Thanks for watching, Angela! Great to hear from you!
Your parents did a Fantastic job raising you 👌🏻
Thank you! I’m going to let them know haha
Amazing job 🔝👏👍💖
Thanks, Enzo
I’ll probably be the only one commenting on the packaging (marketing nerd here), but that box was lovely, and the way everything was placed also beautiful. I’m just not sure what the bubble wrap was for. Unboxing something should of good quality be an experience in and of itself. Well done, Carlos Santos branding/marketing people.
Great comment! I loved the packaging too! I think the bubble wrap was to ensure that the boots didn’t rub together while in shipment.
@@TheElegantOxford Got it! I think "wood wool" could have done the same and looked more refined :) But yes indeed, that packaging was fantastic :D (Glad I'm not the only one noticing these things, haha)
@@eleanor.shadow very late to the party Leonor! (I am kostas from the Noble shoe). The bubble wrap inside is indeed just so the shoes don’t move and scratch during transport, and eliminate space and friction. It’s not the most elegant, but I plan to overhaul it in 2021 😌
@@MisiuAcademy Thanks for replying, Kostas! Great news on the overhaul, I'm sure you'll come up with a super elegant (and eco-friendly) alternative :D Best wishes for 2021!
@@eleanor.shadow the plan is to use recycled paper/cardboard! So I mitigate all kinds of plastic. Have a good week you too!
Amazing you make it so easy
Eventually it becomes easier as you practice haha
Hey Preston. Love your videos!
I've learned so much from you, and shoe shinning is becoming a bit of an obsession for me now lol.
I notice you apply renovateur on the vamp and tounge, let it sit, then buff. Have you had any problems with white residue ocurring along the crease of the vamp after walking around for a bit following a polish?
I'm following your techniques, and taking extra care not to get any hard waxes along the creases on the vamp, yet I still get white residue from only using renovateur.
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
I have the same problem!
You might be using too much renovator. It should absorb into the leather and leave no residue. Make sure to brush vigorously and longer than you think
So you don’t strip the factory finish before shining new shoes?
It depends on the pair but usually not
Excellent video, Preston!!! Beautiful shine!
Great video as always! Thanks for sharing quality content.
I so however believe that it is not a good idea to Mirror Shine shoes straight out of the box and before a few wears. The leather 's pores on new shoes will be very open since they haven't received any conditioning yet (or barely any).
Applying shoe cream is always a good idea, it hydrates the shoe, but shoe wax and especially mirror shine wax is not made to penetrate the shoe but rather stay on the surface to protect the leather. By applying was too early you it may penetrate the leather and damage the shoe.
Cheers!
Ok genial
Mongolian yak hair eh? Nice but does it compare favorably with say, the perineal fur of the snow leopard? The downy ear tufts of the endangered spotted owl? Let’s not start cutting corners now Preston. Your boots deserve only the best :). (You got a Nice pair there :) great video. )
😂🤣😂
Yak brush??? Wow!!! How do you decide to use that vs pig or horse? Thanks
I like your channel, super information that you share. A question I have for a mirror shine will neutral wax be fine for both black & brown shoes??
Hi, I found that wraping the cloth over several fingers while polishing works much better than just one or two fingers. Please try it out.
I’ll try it! Thanks!
Preston, what the best way to look after the suede on these boots please.
A suede care kit would work fine. A suede eraser and brush.
Beautiful work, as always Preston
I have a question were did you get those “boot trees” I can’t find any. The only ones I can find are short made just for shoes. Those taller ones would make conditioning the “shanks” of boots much easier.
Thanks
These are the boss boot tree by woodlore.com
What exact products did you use on these cap-toe boots? I am interested in duplicating the same with my Thursday Boots in the color Brandy.
Just purchased the same field boot from Kostas but had the leather grain rather than suede.
How often would you use Renovateur please.
As often as needed. If the shoe looks dull or dry use it.
Hi
Can you please tell me from where you got these shoe trees- thanks
Not to speak for Preston, however Woodlore has boot trees like that
Willi six U R 100% right. I unsubscribed already 👍🏿
How are these wearing? What are your thoughts on the suede quality, doesn't seem to have the rich texture you sometimes see on suede but perhaps is the lighting. I'm considering these bit there are so many options.
Mil gracias
Love them! Have worn them a lot so far and they are totally worth it! The suede is great!
綺麗ですね‼️
Make a video on double monkstrap brother
Great idea!
gloves for applying neutral wax polish? why not wear gloves for saphir cream also?
I wear gloves if I am handling my daughter a lot that day. I don’t like washing my hands over and over.
How will you protect the suede when cleaning these boots. Surely getting polish on it would be bad?
It would be bad yes. Just use your fingers to apply the polish for maximum control
Hey Preston! I love your videos.
On a pair of boots like these, with both calf skin and suede, I've had this impression that the waterproofing spray for suede shouldn't come in contact with the calf. Am I wrong about this? If not - what method do you employ treat the suede?
I didn’t treat the suede since my pants will be over the shaft all day. But yes, avoid waterproof spray on the calf.
Nice
Have a pair of chromexel AE Higgins Mill boots. Is there a way to subtly alter the existing brown color toward #8 shell cordovan without changing the chromexel texture?
I’m not too sure. Haven’t dealt with CXL often but maybe some burgundy cream would help
@@TheElegantOxford Thanks!
Show us how to die or repaint a book binder shoe like a burgandy Johnston & Murphy captoe
I'm looking for souls that slides on the dance floor. Leather is the only thing that works for me, and that is very hard to find these days.
It’s less common now. It’s more common in higher ended Goodyear welted shoes
@@TheElegantOxford the farmers supplies store has some leather soul cowboys boots, probably be the next thing I buy. My pairs of Oxford came from the second hand store for about $7. Size 13 is also hard to find.
Music turned creepy at the end. Ghosts.
Boo 👻
Could you do a video shining doc martens?
That’s coming up!
Can you do a similar video with your Thursday boots. A lot of the shoes you use see very classic an easier to get that shine than say a more rugged boot. I just cat imagine how you get similar on the likes of the Thursday boot. Leather just seems different or am I wrong
I do have a pair of Thursday Captains but I never shine mirror shine them. I just use leather conditioner once a month and that’s it. It’s my beater boot
@@TheElegantOxford thanks , can u mirror shine cheaper shoes or only the really going quality leather ones ?
If it’s made of any type of leather, you can mirror shine it
@@TheElegantOxford thanks
So this time you applied wax first and then only cold water and friction or you kept on adding wax?
I would add tiny layers in between but extremely small
Nice job as usual Preston! Did you treat the suede at all?
No, It’s was fine. Will be covered by my pant leg most of the time.
I have a question. So did you put the layers of wax on first and then used the ice water once you were done or were you doing a combination of both? I’m new to shoe shining and am trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks
A combination of both!
Hi, I am interested in getting a cedar boot trees for my boots as the ones you show in this video, but can’t find them. Can you please advice. Thanks
👏👏👏👏👍
Hello!
I stumbled upon a sale off a pair of dark brown Oxford Allen Edmond "Park Avenue" shoes which caught my eye.
Now the thing is that the right shoe was on display and when the left shoe was brought out for fitting, there is a noticeable difference in coloration between the two.
Would this be something that can be somewhat swiftly remidiated by colored shoecreams and waxes or will I have to stick it out for a long time until they gradually become more similar because of similar exposure to light?
(they are heavily discounted but I don't want to go months being annoyed by the difference in appearance.
Cheers and thanks in advance!
It depends how different they are but usually, dark brown is easy to match with cream. Chose a high pigment cream like Saphir to make it easier.
Great boors! Mirror shine is like an elusive thing for me. I have tried and can’t get. I’ll try this technique.
Keep trying! You’ll get it!
Thank you for the great video's. Because of your channel my wife is angry with me ! reason: I just purchase 3 pairs of AE shoes. I just have one ? what is the difference between polish and wax? or is there a difference? thanks for all of your info on L.P.C.'s(leather personal carriers)
Charlie
Cream is to add pigment and nourish the leather while wax is used for a higher shine and to protect the shoe from dust and water.
Any advice on getting a good mirror shine on old tan coloured brogues? I recently did my partners, but the toe caps keep getting darker, but not that shinier.
Try less water. It sounds like the leather is over saturated
This is a honest question: Do you have a separate closet or room just for your shoes?
No, just my normal closer. I don’t have a lot of shoes either. Like 15 pairs at most
Have you worn them yet? How do they feel?
Can you tell me which wax polish did you use? Thanks
I used Saphir pate de lux in neutral
is the bottom sole the same as what Thursday Boots puts on their Captain and President range?
Same style as they're both studded dainite rubber soles but if I recall Thursday is not technically dainite. It may be another company's or a maybe in-house.
It’s not. There have been reports of them flaking off and breaking in chunks, as well as pictures. Definitely not the same quality as Dainite.
Thursday Boots don’t use dainite but an in house brand. It’s not as good but mine has held up great
Why didn't you apply cream polish?
Not necessary on this pair. They just needed conditioner but no pigment.
my shoes color was fully damaged.. how can i get parmanent color like before...
Depends on why it lost color but permanent dye is the best way
@@TheElegantOxford i used a liquied shiner..after apply the liquied shoes color was fully damaged..
Is that faux toecap?
Can you provide more info regarding the Mongolian Yak brush? Brand name etc
Sure! It’s by the Hanger Project. I believe Kirby still sells them.
@@TheElegantOxford Thanks, which one do you prefer horse or yak?
Horse overall. It does it all.
@@TheElegantOxford Thanks :-)
Where do you buy the shoe tree ?
These are the boss boot tree by woodlore
Is it all right to use regular shoe tree for the boots ? Because I can't find the boot one in my country
Preston, you must have been a shoe in an earlier lifetime!
Haha maybe 👞
How are these boots holding up over the years?
Holding up great! Still a great boot that I wear often.
@@TheElegantOxford Awesome I just ordered a pair!
So now you're supposed to wear them?
Wore them all day yesterday!
Do you work on ladies shoes Preston?
It depends on the job but yes!
You need to do a video while working on a ladies shoe
I sent you an email....
Will check it!
I noticed you switched brushes
Yes, the first brush was a pig bristle brush which is stiffer and the second brush was the yak hair brush!
@@TheElegantOxford do you still use the one from the box that the guy left with your Dad?
Yes I do! Everyday
:)
