Today, Russia is being outperformed by countries like Poland and Czech Republic. So it's totally rational for Ukraine to pivot to the EU rather than Russia. The United States provided a large amount of military aid to the Soviet Union during World War II, which fought against Nazi Germany, but after the war, the US Congress exempted the payment of aid that arrived in the Soviet Union before May 1945 on the grounds that it would hinder reconstruction. First of all, Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 was illegal and violated international commitments, no matter what excuse Putin makes. In 1991, the Russian leader invited the leaders of Ukraine and Belarus to Khrushchev's villa for a meeting. At the meeting, they pledged to respect and not violate each other's borders, which had been established at the time. Later, in 1994, Russia met with the UK and the US in Budapest and signed a pledge to "guarantee Ukraine's security and territorial integrity" in exchange for Ukraine handing over 1,500 nuclear warheads to Russia. However, 20 years later in 2014, Russia's Putin used an arbitrary pretext to unilaterally break the pledge and forcibly annex Crimea. Putin has illegally violated two international commitments. In the civilized world, the law requires that if a contract is terminated midway, the recipient of the goods (in this case, nuclear warheads) is obligated to return all of the goods to the other party (Ukraine).

In 2000, Russia held its first presidential election, and Putin, who pledged to "democratize Russia and double the national economy," was elected. In 2002, Putin joyfully attended the NATO conference held in Rome and requested that Russia join NATO. For Putin at the time, who made economic development his top priority, joining NATO and the EU was an urgent issue. However, since the progress of democratization had not yet met the NATO standards, Russia was treated as an associate member for the time being. It was only natural that Ukraine, seeing this, would aim to join NATO or the EU. However, after that, Putin suddenly stopped democratizing Russia and steered toward decretarism. He then turned his back on NATO, which called for democratization, and began to distance himself from it, becoming hostile and hating NATO, which persistently demanded democratization. In other words, Ukraine is a victim at the mercy of Putin's selfishness and has no responsibility. Putin's selfish behavior and selfish territorial desires are solely responsible.

So the only "coup" and "political interference" was coming directly from russia and putin. Putin wrote essay “on historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians” where he suggests as much as Ukraine is not a real country. Is it the evidence he said something in private? No. Is there an evidence you are a real person? No.
The 2014 Ukrainian coup d'état was a drama of people protesting against leaders who broke their promises to the people, and the leaders, frightened by this, abandoned their duties and fled to a foreign country. This is similar to the case of Peruvian President Fujimori. The Minsk Agreement was concluded in February 2015, a year after Russia broke the Budapest agreement, suddenly crossed the eastern border, and unilaterally annexed Crimea. At the time, the Ukrainian military was weak and did not have the military power to fight the Russian military, so it was forcibly concluded under the military threat of the Russian military. Looking at the contents of the agreement, it can be divided into a "normalization process" that includes "disarmament of forces calling for separatism" and "returning control of the border between pro-Russian forces and Russia to the Ukrainian side," and a "political process" that gives the pro-Russian forces a "special status" as a de facto autonomy. The agreement was contradictory from the beginning, and the positions of both sides were so different that neither side followed the agreement process, and the "disarmament of pro-Russian forces" was not implemented. Although the expression "special status = high degree of autonomy" was used, it did not recognize the "independence of the eastern region." Not to mention the military invasion by Russia in 2022, which was based on a unilateral pretext, the "independence of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions" is a clear violation of the Minsk Agreement by Russia. The logic of Putin's pretext of requesting military intervention from an "illegally established state" that is not recognized by the international community is itself flawed from the beginning under international law. It is exactly the same as Hitler's method of forcibly annexing Czechoslovakia, claiming that "German residents are being persecuted." All UN member states that joined the UN by pledging to abide by the UN Charter, which states that "the sovereignty of other states shall not be taken away by military force," can never tolerate such lawlessness in violation of the terms of the agreement.
By definition, a coup d'état is when members of a country’s political elite, most often military officers, seize power by force. That is not what happened in Kyiv in 2014. Yanukovych was not removed as the result of machinations of his country’s political or military elite.
If Ukraine is part of EU, then Putin failed, but Ukraine lost as well. Putin won Crimea and Crimea allows the control of the Black Sea, maritime traffic from and to Ukraine. Donbass is rich in resources. This is a gain for Russia as well. And the Ukrainian population under russian occupation is suffering. Who wants to sacrifice them? Well Ukraine used to be totally under Russian influence so getting around 80% of its land to be armed and allied to the west is actually a major victory for the west and it doesn’t stop there. The west has won Finland and Sweden to join them this not only more than doubles NATO’s border with Russia but it makes the Baltic Sea into a NATO lake which means Russia barely has any way of getting ships into Europe since Turkey(also a NATO member) closes their entry into the Mediterranean Sea. Moreover Russia has lost the last influence it had on Europe by losing its oil and gas exports. Also Russia was still undergoing recuperation from wartorned Soviet Union collapse and it has now begun a new war economy period which will definitely hurt both economically and demografically a few years from now when the war has already ended. The west has won much more than Russia and it has lost nothing while Russia lost a lot from this.

@@davidkottman3440 Russia will have its work cut out replacing the massive material losses suffered by its land army. The navy will not be priority, not for a long while. Also, Ukraine's relatively cheap missiles and drones will continue to pose a mortal danger to Russia's Black Sea fleet in the event of another conflict. Russia will have to do a thorough cost-benefit analysis. It doesn't look good for your ships.
@peabase If the war is over, Ukraine cannot continue to sink the navy ships, if Crimea is not returned to Ukraine, they have no claim on the territorial waters that they've been fighting for control of.... You're being short sighted to dismiss the importance of the Black Sea. So far, the Russian Navy has suffered less damage than the Army... the ships can & will be repositioned in peace time in preparation for the next conflict wherever it may be.
No wonder this site of hypocrisy..
Thank you! Great Madam Interviewer!
I thought no ones allowed to talk to putin, except for CNN and BBC
This is the man who did all he could to prevent Scotland becoming an independent nation because he was afraid Catalonia would leave Spain.
yes crimea is lower odds of returning IF UKR lacks appropro weapons systems and rights to fully use them against assets in RU. A coalition of the wiling should help retake southern Ukr, bcuz its' needed for Ukr's future economy to ensure shipping ease into even just the Odesa area ports! Otherwise, EU and US et al cannot conceivably invest in the rebuilding and econ expansion of Ukr postwar. THINK! Act now with a coalition to fight russia out of the southfo Ukr and other border areas
Yes, the safety & assurance of the Black Sea remaining International waters for global shipping is actually more important to the rest of the world than the occupied territory.
Barroso is a total controlling lying freak show.
Why is everyone ignoring the huge orange elephant in the room. In a few months, Ukraine will be virtually on its own.
You wish. Ukraine is supported by virtually all of Europe, and all of the Western world. It is Russia that is isolating itself.
@ Germany is already in talks with Russia. Where America leads, NATO follows. The cowardice displayed by the Americans in their recent election of a criminal Putinista, and now the Germans negotiating with the criminal in the Kremlin, disgusts and horrifies me.
@ And no - I certainly do NOT wish. However, I also do not stuff my head in the sand.
@@wordscapes5690 OK, I understand you now. Thank you.
José Manuel Barroso has come a long way since he was a maoist in his student days. There is a time for everything! 😊😊😊
There are millions of people that wished Putin did not exist.
*More than a billion. Maybe even 2 billion.
The Global South have their own priorities is not what is happening in Europe , is not western style of democracy , OK .
who nominated/ elected u spokesperson of global south? Which org represents unity of said global south?
I'll answer u: no one, there isn't any.
Conclusion: u have a strong case of supremacism whereupon u consider urself the representative/ dictator of the will of an entire half of the globe. Don't fail art school...
It will be your problem if this ends up in a nuclear conflict and the whole planet turns into a radiated wasteland.
Good luck living in the nuclear fallout, ignoranimus 🤡
Don't think the world doesn't understand the USAs and EUs autho
yeah, ok, ivan
Ukraine can be Russia both speak same language🤣
Judul berita yang sangat provokatif, suatu bentuk media framing yang sangat kuat.
senior adviser " and "non-executive chairman" of Goldman Sachs International[3] and became subject of an ethics inquiry. From wikipedia.
😂what Barroso think or say intelligent people don't trust.
Here in Portugal no one remembers this man foundly. He resigned and ran to Brussels very shortly after being elected Prime Minister because that's where the Prestige and big money was, taking everyone by surprise and forcing elections. His Socialist successor would _virtually_ bankrupt the country in short time and end up arrested. Ten years afterwards he is yet to stand trial. For many politicians, being elected Prime Minister or President is nothing but a springboard to Brussels, where you really can became millionaire in very short time without doing virtually _nothing useful._
Then they say that Ukraine is corrupt. How disgusting. 🤮
same thing happens in other smaller countries, when it comes to European parliament for instance, nobody wishes to be a member of their own parliament but wishes to go to Strasbourg or wherever the European parliament is located.
One thing must be considered, in the occupied land in ukraine will never be a place to live, probably no mans land
Maybe, many towns & cities in Europe looked the same way in 1945.
Did he tell Europeans to stop buying Russian oil and gas after Putin said he wanted to destroy Ukraine? Why is he quoting the Bible? Has he not heard of the separation of religion and politics?
Barroso is a liar
1)oil prices down
2)economic sanctions
rusia kaput
This man is crazy, he just talking nonsense
Yes Putin is correct 🎉
He is lying
Long live Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 and Russian 🇷🇺 Friendship Ilham Aliyev ❤ and Vladimir Putin ❤️
Because of the large number of times Barroso claims to have met Putin, it becomes even more clear and concerning his continued lack of insight and underestimation of Putin and his capabilities...scary as old José is not alone in his arrogance among European leaders...
He is a traitor to his own country so he is probably ready to betray EU too.
@@puraLusaHe is not a traitor to our country.
Incompetent, definately, but not a traitor.
You Cheganos use the term "traitor" at anything.
Shitty social media "politiquing" based on visceral emotions, not real political choice based on reflection about facts.
He does not strike me as arrogant. Putin does.
@DebsLaRue he is a sell out not arrogant.
@@DebsLaRue He does not come across as arrogant but he certainly is grandiose in the sense of, just like the other stooges that currently run the EU, that they could dictate to a military superpower how their new globalist world order that they want to impose on the world is going to be played out in Ukraine and just expect due to their superiority this old power would just accept and shut up. Whatever one thinks of Putin it is obvious that he is no pushover and Barroso after meeting him 25 times, as he claims, should have seen that much. I truly think that it was his arrogance over a supposed superiority of the EU and US that led him to completely underestimate Putin and now we are close to a nuclear confrontation...
Another PROPAGANDA.... STOP YOUR PROPAGANDA
😂😃this ex eu official ranting stupidly😂😂" north korea military is now in europe fighting againist european country we got to fight that" 😂😂😃 I think 30 nato morons are fighting againist one Russia to conduct regime change to install thier puppet at Moscow
WONT HAPPEN
👏👏👏🔝🔝
Barroso is incredibly erudite.
Did Putin also tell him :))
Maybe the "Ukraine in NATO" was also mentioned, was a mistake that got us into this mess. He forgot that.
Why NATO is threat for Russia?
There was no plan for Ukraine to join NATO. There were talks for Georgia and Ukraine to join in 2008 but ultimately both were denied out of fear of angering Russia. Now look what happened to Georgia and Ukraine afterwards.
@@simonhauk1372 yeah if only NATO didn't do coups there...
@@ytrewq-c2p there was no coup, there were two major revolutions in Ukraine.

Another lies.
Putin is whatever you think but not stupid. He would never say something like that to this weirdo.
Explain this military adventure that has led to an economic disaster for Russia, to say nothing of the eye-watering military losses. It bears reminding that this was and is a war of choice for Russia.
Stupid is as stupid does.
he was head of eu for years, making deals with russian gas.
Comming from a guy who was a comunist, it's funny as hell.. 😊😅😅

what did he say that was false or communist?
@andresilvasophisma
Hitler was a Socialist. Fact...
Coming from someone on the internet it must be true. No reasoning also.
Simply BS
It is men like this that brought us to this place in history where nuclear war is becoming more of a reality. The incompetence of Western leaders is extremely concerning...

Ukraine is created by European comission, are you serious, Barosso?
He's describing Putin's words, not his.
Always remember Putin doesn't speak English 😂😂. Delusional
Actually he does....he spoke with Angela Merkel, Donald Trump,& others in English captured on video at a summit meeting during Trump's first term. He prefers Russian & German, but his English skills are competent.
He’s not telling the truth, these people lie so much that they have lost any semblance of reality. Seek the truth.
