  • Part 1 of our virtual tour of "Stitched: Contemporary Quilt Art from the International Quilt Festival," an exhibition opened February 1, 2020 at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts in Spring, Texas, located in Northwest Houston.
    About the exhibition:
The Pearl has assembled a unique grouping of exquisite quilts on loan from the International Quilt Festival Collection. Karey Bresenhan and Nancy O'Bryant Puentes, founders of Quilts, Inc. and the Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange, Texas, have been building their corporate collection of quilts for more than three decades. Most of their collection of studio art quilts were purchased from exhibitions at the annual Houston International Quilt Festival, which was started by Bresenhan in 1974 and is produced by Quilts, Inc. The festival quickly became an international destination for quilters of all kinds and is now one of the largest and most important gatherings for quilters in the world.
For the first time ever, select works from this collection have been made available for a national touring exhibition through Dr. Sandra Sider, Curator for the Texas Quilt Museum. The artists range from the most famous names in contemporary quilt art to emerging artists at the time of purchase whose innovative work was irresistible to the collectors. Themes and styles in this exhibition include narration, color abstraction, landscapes, the cosmos, and antique quilt homage.
