It was delayed because of a protest about a 30ft KKK mural in 2018 that was made in response to Guston.

If Guston had just continued to go with what was popular at the time, and do his abstract paintings he would have been successful and popular in the moment; but today nobody would remember him.

Guston did some truly great art in his earlier life but his last years were very weak.

Childish art without any technique or meaning.

Guston literally says this about himself. Guston knew he was an art troll among other character flaws, especially at the end of his life, and so did his friends and art world contemporaries etc. Modern curators are giving him more praise than what he ever deserved. I could write a thesis on his b.s.
