- Maid of Honor - Automatic Aluminum Donut Maker by Sears, Robuck and Co.
Recipe #1, called "Best" [not my submission] Donuts.
Yes, the word "Best" is in quotes!
Not enough chew and moistness for my buds.
Here is the recipe from the box, but I do not recommend it. It's nothing special and i would not call it "best":
Ingredients
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 tsp melted shortening [fat]
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 cup milk.
Method
Beat eggs and sugar together.
Add cooled shortening.
Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Mix thoroughly and put into Donut Maker.
French fry at 375°.
[I found I needed to add more milk to make the batter flow]
Thank you thrift store.
Sorry, not for yeasted donuts. Those require a different process, including sitting and rising time. This process entails making a batter that flows and pouring it right into the oil. The beauty of this donut maker tool is the simple way it creates the round donut shapes for you. It's a little magical, in its own way.
So, this is for cake donuts, including those that have potato. Can also be used for French donuts (w/eggs).
Have fun.
just scroed this unit at the goodwill! brandnew!!!!

I wish they still sold this donut maker. I've been looking everywhere!
@Yukiba - I see many varieties of these aluminum donut makers sold all the time on eBay. Do a search for "vintage donut maker". I just did a search and found over a dozen being sold. Good luck.
I have a Maid of Honor 9 inch pan my neighbor gave me. I didn't know they made doughnut droppers.
Nope. This donut maker is designed just to make ring shapes. That's what is ingenious about it.
Not sure why you'd have that problem. Not sure if it's the batter or the design of the maker, or the combo of the two. I'd suggest calling the Belshaw company to get some clues. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I started yesterday to make donuts with my new Belshaw donut cutter, because your video inspired me so much. I made 60 donuts and they all look like balls, not like a ring.
I`m sure, that i`ve made a mistake with the batter. Did this ever happend to you and what was the reason?
Yes, I have posted the recipe in one my comments below. However, I don't think the recipe is good. Nothing special about it. I would recommend trying different things, use Google to sniff out possibilities, and follow your nose.
Hello! Is it possible to make donut balls with this type of donut maker?
kkrr13 I don't think so. I prefer hand cut doughnut recipes. Two different size biscuit cutters can be used to Make the doughnut shape if you don't have a doughnut cutter.
Hi, who can help me to get that donut maker. I'm Indonesian stay in Jakarta. I really whant to buy but I can not found it in Indonesia (Jakarta).
This kind of thing is sold on eBay or Amazon.
For eBay, search for "vintage donut maker".
I have seen variations made by different companies. Some are made of plastic and some are made of aluminum. Mine is made of aluminum.
If you want something new, on Amazon, search for "norpro donut maker".
You will also find them if you search "Pancake & Donut Batter Dispenser".
You want to make sure that your batter is thin enough to flow easily.
Have fun.
mrtgrizzly Honestly best doughnut is just a box cake mix. Unless you are making yeast

If you are saying that ho-made yeast-ed donuts are better, my taste buds would agree with you !
mrtgrizzly If I am going to make it all from scratch I go yeast all the way. If my family or son wants cake doughnuts I usually just mix up cake batter from a box or muffin mix from a box and use your machine to drop the batter into the hot oil. That gets a nice flavorful light fluffy doughnut. Tastes like doughnut shop doughnuts. Out in California one of the most famous places to get doughnuts is called, M&M. What they do is just take a basic blueberry muffin mix and fry it. Makes a great doughnut. I think it is the emulsifiers and batter conditioners they put in the Box mixes. ;-)

Now I think I understand what you are saying. You are saying that using a mix from a box can turn out to be pretty good, in some cases. I have not heard of M&M. Must be Southern Cal, as I'm only familiar with the offerings of the Bay Area.
Thanks the sharing and for the tip. Next time in SoCal, I'll hunt it down.
i never seen it in bakeshop in indonesia? is it sale for online?
Yes.
Yes, you can find them on eBay or ETSY. Do a search for "maid of honor donut maker" and you'll find them for
sale. Many others are for sale if you search "vintage aluminum donut
maker". I have a feeling this new version is essentially the same
thing: "Norpro 3168 Donut Maker". Also on eBay for $10.
I am not clear what your question is. What do you mean by "box"?
I bought the donut maker itself in a thrift store, and it happened to come with a box. I'm lucky, because it seems to be several decades old and appeared unused. You can find these things (and similar ones) for sale on Ebay. They may or may not come with a box. If that doesn't answer your question, please rephrase your question and I'll try again.
Did u use the recipe from the box to make the ones we see in the video?
There are 5 recipes on the box.
I think this recipe was called "BEST DONUTS".
And I didn't think it was "best."
Ok. Gonna get that donut
maker! ;) But will look for other recipes! Thanks
Is this more of a heavy duty dispenser? I bought a cheap norpro one and it works ok, but want something a little better. Don't want to invest more money if it's about the same. Thank you
+natasha maldonado I am not sure if it is more heavy duty. It's made of aluminum and sturdy, just like many things from the '50s and '60s. Not likely to break. You can find them on eBay all the time.
Thank you for your quick response!
can I get the donut recipe ...
It's in the description section for the video. Have fun.
mrtgrizzly sorry i dont see it
No problem.
