You find Manus’s pendant in the modern time. He is so desperate to retrieve it that he pulls you into the past when Artorias and his companions were alive. Artorias had been sent to slay Manus and stop the disaster consuming the city of Oolacile but he failed and was wounded and being corrupted by the Abyss. His last act was to shield Sif and make it outside where he succumbed to madness. You find him there, kill him, and then complete his mission and slay Manus for good which prevents the spread of the Abyss. You then are sent back to the present. So all the world knows is that Artorias was sent, the Abyss stopped spreading, and he died after taking serious injuries so he got the credit. The only ones who knew the truth were some of the Gods and their loyal followers who had interest in allowing the lie to remain.

Before the DLC came out, we assumed Knight Artorias’ story was one of a legendary warrior who successfully fought the abyss.
When we get taken back in time by Manus, we discover that Artorias has been corrupted by the abyss, and that his entire legend was built on a lie.
So it’s up to us to do what he failed to do. Kill Manus, and save the princess.
It’s convoluted, but that’s the point.

He assumes you have played it basically but very simple.
    1) The place you go to was the city(past) he talked about being allowed to prosper. The city of the light, the city that made things that are useful for the Gods.(this is incredibly relevant, though I think half the people playing the game might never find it. Dark Souls has no problems with you never finding massive areas.)
    2) The abyss appeared in the city.(past)
    3) Artorius was sent and failed.(past)
    4) We find the amulet in our time(present). In a place of learning. We go to a place and across time Manus, looking for the amulet, drags us back. Back to the time of Artorius. In our time it's just a forest. Most traces of the city long gone.
    5) We kill Artorius who is overcome by the Abyss.
    6) We safe Dusk. The princess. And then we go back. Back to our time. We disappear essentially.
    7) The myth is that Artorius saved Dusk. We go back to our time. And all those years later. Dusk finds us again. Recognizing that, unlike what the myths and legends say, it wasn't Artorius that saved her.
The rest, the Ringed City, the City under Firelink shrine and how it got submerged. All of that is simply tied to the "Zeus" of the world. Gwyn. Fearing men. Fearing the dark. It explains why Ulysyl was allowed to grow. Why certain knights of Gwyn were involved. Why Artorius was there.
Dark Souls is a story about cycles. Light follows Dark. Dark follows Light. Do you use your body as fuel to feed the light? Extending the age of the Gods? Or do you let the fire fade. The age of Dark. The age of men.
Fun fact: If you save the dog in the past before facing him in the present he recognizes you.

You're saying that the video is confusing to follow but the problem is like you said you never played Dark Souls you're learning about a Side Story without actually learning about the main story.

Kinda like what happened with Warhammer; he went in with ZERO prior knowledge, made a bunch of assumptions, and got all hurt when he was corrected, saying the comments "attacked" him. Trust me, guys a soy boy

All that is confusing is very clear if you have played the game he skipped the obvious parts, you kill him as the boss so you are different people. He failed you kill him go back in time and actually do the big thing he is known for. You make his legend

I fully understand being confused about the lore in the early part of the video but how tf did you get the pkayer character and artorias confused? It shows us fighting him after he was corrupted. Vaati literally says that we killed artorias when we were there, how does that translate to us being artorias? I really dont think being new to dark souls explains your level of confusion here 😂

The video probably for people who has played the game but have a little confusion about the story, that's why you're confused(they skipped some part that are probably obvious).
We as the chosen undead(title for mc like tarnished), traveled the world hundreds of years after what transpired within oolacile with manus and artorias.
During our journey, we obtain an unknown broken pendant by chance and just casually pocket it(who knows, it might come in handy).
Coincidentally, Manus, the father of the abyss is actually the owner of that pendant and since he treasures it dearly, he used his power to seek it across space and time.
Ohh, look! What are the chances? Some random hand just dragged us to the past due to random pendant we picked up(that's why your parents taught you not to pocket random things).
Luckily, we don't actually just get dragged in Manus lair for some reason and instead arrive outside oolacile where we would start our journey to find a way back to our time until the first obstacle that is artorias.
After cheesing artorias(definitely didn't die more than 10 times), we continue until we found the one who kidnapped us, Manus and beat him up, saving a princess in the process.
This is the most important part.
Since we are from a different time, spreading our existence might be a problem since it might disturb space time or whatever. So it was decided that artorias will be the one that beat manus, and dying due to his wound from the battle.
I believe the stuff i didn't talked about has be mentioned in the video

I am sure someone else explained it, but the Dark Souls dlc has you go back in time through Manus' attempt to retrieve his pendant. There you fight the corrupted Artorias and Manus, but everyone in modern times thinks that Artorias was the one to kill Manus. You finish the job, but next to no one knows the truth. Artorias' failure stems from the fact that he was not human, he did not have a dark soul, and was thus corrupted by the Abyss.

Artorias was his own person. We as the players mearly took his mantle and finished his legend. Once sent back to our time you obviously still play as yourself, the slayer of Artorias and all his final achievements in life. Basically leaving his legacy in tact.

The player and Artorias are two completely different people. The DS1 DLC where Artorias shows up involves the player time traveling to the past. If you never did the DLC and saved Sif in the past they would not have recognized you in the future, but if you did the fight becomes way more heartbreaking.

There's a lot of time travel in dark souls that you don't realize you're doing. Especially in Dark Souls 3

I think Vaati's earlier videos are a bit confusing because he works around what he assumes you should already know by playing the game and that is especially confusing to non-players.

    You are not Artorius.
In the DLC on your way to fight Manis, you come across Seff, Who is being attacked by the abyss?
He is a dog who is a very loyal companion of Artorius.
When you save him, he becomes an ally summon in your fight against Manis.
After you defeat, the final boss of the DLC, your actions are attributed to Artorius in the history books. This does not make you Artorius.
As an added bonus for defeating the DLC, if you did it before the fight against Seff.
You were treated to a cut scene that wasn’t there before, he will pin you down, sniff you and recognize you as the ally that fought alongside him against Manis.
But sadly, you need a ring that is in Artorius’s grave in order to enter the four Kings boss area.
And the Doggo will do anything to protect their masters grave.

Copyright, can't keep it even though it's fair use, the RUclips system gets abused by the copyright holders.
