The CRAZIEST bass you've ever seen... and it was Prince's!

  • To say I was a MASSIVE Prince fan would have honestly been an understatement…
In my opinion he was one of the most talented musicians the world had ever seen.
Bass, guitar, keys, drums… he played them ALL (extremely well!) and to top it off his vocal skills were second to none and he could right hit songs like they were going out of fashion ;)
Yeah.. I was a BIG fan.
So, you can only imagine how excited I was when I was invited to actually play the last bass Prince ever ordered!
The really sad part of this story is that Prince never received this bass, as he passed away shortly after it had been ordered. And trust me, he would have LOVED it!
In this brand new video I travel to the workshop of Simon Farmer to meet the luthier behind Prince's last bass, find out more about the story behind the instrument, and put the bass through it’s paces!
As always, see you in the shed…
    Scott

guinness4life I kind of want it, but kind of don't. It's not me. it's not my tone, sound, ideas. I certainly would have trouble bringing myself to gig with it.
It would be a sensational talking point hanging out on the wall in the music room.
kind of makes me want to hit the bloke up and say "Make me a bass". I've got a mortgage to pay down first.

guinness4life ,it is already a collector's item,i think the only bassguitar,he ordered but never played,by passing away.I'm not into collecting Prince instruments,it's mostly about money and status,i like guitars to how the feel and sound. For example a Clover Basstard 5,i bought a few weeks ago.
Beautiful bass,91,5 cm scale, broad graphite neck(20 mm spacing),Bartolini Soapbar pick-ups/Bartolini act.electronics, flamed maple body in transparant yellow.
I think Prince would love this one,if he ever played/met one.

Superb craftsmanship obviously but the tone of this one leaves me as cold as the carbon fibre it's made from.

+Scott's Bass Lessons Everyone's a critic and this guy does brilliant work but I cannot say I'm a fan of the two opposing "Steely Dan" hotdog weenies. To each their own! I'd love to know more about what you thought of tone and playability outside of the amazing craftsmanship.

Great looking bass, that is. I'm usually not into those 'weird' basses, but I like the elegance of this one. I wouldn't mind adding a Gus Guitar to my collection :)

Hey Scott, really glad you took the time to showcase Simon's amazing work! I'm lucky enough to own a G3/5 & a G3/5 Midi.. worth every penny! Simon's aftercare is immense as well, a true ambassador for exceptional service. Just shows his love & care for all his instruments. Superb!

I thought that was a gus guitar from the thumbnail! I remember talking to Simon briefly at a dog training club my family ran, such a small world! I believe they also produced guitars for pendulum among many!
