    That guitar is so beautiful.

Actually it was Jeff Levin who had made the Bass (Sardonyx now defunct) version of this guitar that prince had bought at Matt Umanov's Lower Manhattan's guitar store. Prince then took it to Dave Rusan and had him copy it to a guitar version. Dave mentions that himself.

And he (Jeff) got the inspiration from a Gibson madolin.

Dave Rusan is a gentleman and an artist, there are many copies of these guitars but his has heart and soul put into it and you can always see and hear the difference in any art work when the craftsman has put his heart into it.

Ever since I first saw that bass back around 80 or 81, I was utterly fascinated by it and though I was only 5 years old, I was also already an enormous fan of Prince. I actually had 2 cardboard cutout guitars that I made myself to pretend play when I was in kindergarten and 1st grade. One was of this bass and the other being the Explorer style guitar that my other hero, Dez Dickerson played. I even colored it half black and half red like his. I was deep into it lol. I played with those things until the sweat from my hands made them fall apart about a year later. I've wondered many times where that bass was and I knew he had it still because I saw it last in his my name is Prince video in 93 94. I'm so fn happy that it's still around and in pristine condition. The only change to it that I can see is the pickups aren't the originals. Past that you can see Andre Cymone getting down on it in most of any footage of the pre Revolution band. I hate that I can probably never own one of those because not only has no one reproduced it,but even if they did I doubt one will ever come in left handed. Still I'm grateful someone has it. Now, if we could just track down the black Batman cloud guitar, 1 of only 2 ever made, that was given to a person during a call in contest. It's not been found as of yet I don't think.

Few people have ever been so famous and gifted that, just by having the slightest brief one time connection to them your life is changed significantly. Prince truly was an incredible artist and I am very grateful to have had my time on this planet co-existing with his.
He was by far the most influencial musician of my lifetime.
    RIP Prince Rodgers Nelson.

Over the top comment. He was just another human doing a job. Nothing more. This stupid belief that prince was some sort of god like individual is just pure rubbish

    • @joemonroe1106

@@phil4977 ah...never said he was a god, just "an incredible artist". Many people became well known, had big hits, and were more successful just from having the opportunity to work with or for Prince. People who otherwise would have remained just ordinary folks..doing a job. And its a long list.
You may not share my admiration or appreciation for the guys talent, but it doesn't matter. What exact impact have you created in history? Musical or otherwise...likely zero.
Guys out "doing a job" are everywhere. Creative musicians like Prince aren't.
He had an impact on millions all around the world and that is not just a "guy doing a job".

@@phil4977 So now we agree,... he was an incredible artist.
And for the record... being addicted to pain killers is a private issue. Matters not one bit with regard to his music, which is what my first comment was solely about.
Pain pill addiction happens to many dealing with severe chronic pain.
Not a valid reason to negate anybody's creativity and talent.
Your opinion of the man won't change one bit of what he accomplished musically or the impact he made in other peoples lives and in musical history. Which was my point from the start.
      Case dismissed.

Breaking an iconic guitar is a very Prince thing to do. One of the things that set him apart from other musicians was that he was forever seeking and evolving, never giving in or becoming overly attached to nostalgia or sentiment. Even his 'Piano and a Mic' shows near the end of his life were far removed from anything he'd done previously in his career. I think that's why he reached out to Dave Rusan to build the Cloud Guitar, because Dave understood that much like a hammer or a handsaw is to a carpenter, a guitar is the same to a pure musician...simply a tool for making music(see Dave's comments at around 1:52). Respect and RIP to the Purple One.

@@catboyzee Your right about Prince,he saw guitars just as tools, allthough his Hohner Madcat was copied different times( i believe Roger Sadowski,NY,made around 5-7 copies of the Madcat),but he was a kind of sentimental on his guitars. He threw different times, his guitars into the audiance, but they were all taking back out of the audience by roadies. Not nice,if you were the lucky one to recieve it.
