- The fine folks at HTVRont contacted me recently to see if I'd participate in their big spring blow-out "Fans Carnival" celebrating their 5 years in business
( link here: bit.ly/3LWgPYa ),
and I said "Yeah, I will!" So here is the second video featuring HTVRont products, specifically Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) and also their Teflon Sheets used with HTV. I cut and weeded the HTV, wrapped it around two tumblers, then wrapped those cups with the teflon, pressed them both in my tumbler press, and voila -- two gorgeous, tooled-leather-patterned tumblers!! The HTV gods were quite delighted. See the HTVRont store here: ebay.to/3LYBPgN

The tumbler press: I don’t recommend this tumbler press anymore. Not because there’s anything wrong with the machine, but because the company selling it has very poor customer service. If you’re interested in a tumbler press, Mr. Nola’s Glitter is selling one, plus they’ll do lots of online demos with it, and they have great customer service! The press isn’t up on their website yet, but I believe they’re taking preorders if you email (mngcustomerservice@gmail.com). If you join their FB group, you can see the press in posts there.

I love Swirls! Mostly swirls of color, but really any swirls at all - I think they add a beauty and grace to everything. So after I started making soap a few years ago, and needing some sort of biz name that didn't sound like everyone else's version of suds-r-us, I decided on Luxinda Swirl. Luxinda is a twist on my real name, and I quickly started putting swirls of color in all of my handmade soaps.
Now I'm branching out a bit, and I want to keep adding swirls to everything I do!

Give me some ideas, gang!! How do you want me to try this HTV with the tumbler press next?? I'm ready to dive in!!
Great video! I use HTV on my tumblers for text. I experimented with one of my tester tumblers and it worked both under and over resin (not in a tumbler press, I used a small iron). I'd post a picture if RUclips would let me.
@@MariaDavidsonsondais oh excellent! Thanks for the idea!!
How about a layered design???
@@cwmagic2201 oooooh!!! Well, *that* would be interesting 🤔
hhhhmmm, what about with an alcohol ink swirl?
Not me running 🏃🏾♀️ to the garage for my messed up tumblers!!! Everybody getting tumblers for Christmas 🎉😂
I was cheering so loud!! Yes Ma’am!! I see you!
Thank you!! 😊😊🥰
WOW.....WOW......WOW....that's all I can say WOW....

OH. MY. GOODNESS! This just opened up a whole new world of possible designs! Thank you!
Thank you!!! Happy it was helpful for you 😊
Thank you! Now I can recycle all those tumblers I messed up!
Thank you!! Anything to avoid stripping a cup!
I was so excited that this worked, even on a painted tumbler! Can’t wait to try more this way! Suggestions, anyone??
I love the black one 🌹💜
Thank you!!😊
REALLY like the stainless steel and black!
Thanks!!

Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed it!! 😊
These are so pretty

That's amazing!! wow!!! I'd love to see a beach scene with ombre spray paint and some holo or shimmery HTV. Now I need a tumbler press......
Thank you!! That sounds like a beautiful cup design!
Beautiful

Love these!!

Oh Mylanta!! Those are gorgeous!!! You are always bringing us new ideas!!
Thank you!!! I doubt it’s really new, but I was surprised that I couldn’t really find videos on it. The closest I found are all the HTV with a Cricut mug press videos when that device was first released, but those were on coffee cups.
Absolutely beautiful. I don't have a tumbler press though. Will use small heat iron and heat gun. Don't have those rolly things either. I'll make something up.
That sounds like a plan - good luck!😊 Thanks for watching!
Wow amazing love them i have so any tumblers i have made mistakes on so im going to try this 👌❤️ thank you iv subscribed now ❤️

Thank you so much!! 😊
Love them both but my favorite is the unpainted one.
Thank you!!😊
love it
Thank you!!😊
I always wondered why you never used this method. I was so excited when I figured out you could use HTV on cups!!
Honestly, I never thought about it and never thought to purchase HTV (I got the tumbler press for sublimation and hadn't really thought outside that "box"). Thanks!!
That so cool
Thank you!😊
That is beautiful!
Thank you! 😊😊
So excited that this worked so well. These came out beautiful.
Thank you!!! I was pleased (can you tell? 🙄🤣🤣)
Htv is so much easier to weed. I don’t have a heat press but I wonder if I could use a heat gun or even a iron.
You could use the same pattern and spray paint over it then do a wood grain. That would be cool. That just saved a ton of time. Both turned out beautiful. They looked pretty darn prefect to me. Great job.
Thank you!!! You definitely can do this with an iron - that was something that turned up in my “research”. Let me see if I can find that video…
Here’s the iron + HTV video I watched

I have used small snowflakes out of htv on tumblers, but never even considered this😳😳😳thank you so much for this video can’t wait to try this🥰
Thank you!!! Ooh, I bet that’s lovely! ❄️
These turned out gorgeous! Good job!
Thank you very much! 😊
Wow! I have been wanting to try this as I have some cool patterned HTV. Thanks for testing this for me 🤣
My pleasure!! Thank you for watching!!
htvront has been my first option when i started and has never dissapointed me i just love it htv or permanent or removable i love it
I agree - I really enjoy using their products!
I wanted to suggest this but was afraid you would think it was nuts 🤣 you have seen me use an actual iron to apply iron on a tumbler press is way safer and easier. Also I am pretty sure you could use the laminator to use some of the htv on papers for the other channel, or try it anyways I've again ironed on paper I'd think a laminator would work 🤷♀️
Oh, please suggest! 😁 Hmmm, I had not thought of the laminator! Great idea!! Thank you! 😊
They are beautiful!!! I am definitely going to try that! TY for sharing 🙂
Thanks very much!!😊😊
I have been trying to figure this out for over a year!!! Thank you for being so experimental and showing your results. This gives me so many ideas!! :) I could never figure it out, and now it clicks and makes so much sense!! Thank you!!

Wow!!! Those came out absolutely gorgeous! I am in absolutely love with the black and silver one. 😍
Thank you!! 😊 Isn’t it pretty? Can’t believe I never thought to try this before 🤦♀️
THANK YOU! I have been searching and searching for someone to try on a tumbler press! 💕

Love these! Been toying with getting a tumbler press and expanding to do subs but love this better! This sealed the deal!
Thank you!!! Hope you enjoy your tumbler press 😁
They are gorgeous! 😍

Awesome! I love the green and gold one. Being down here in Baylor Bear territory that one would be popular for sure!
Thank you!!! Lol!! I was going to do a navy blue and white decal the other day and thought, “nah, I don’t live in Penn State territory anymore” 🤣 I wonder if there is any color combo left that isn’t a school’s colors 🤔
This is such a great idea thank you. Beautiful tumblers

Those tumblers turned out so awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!!😊
When you use HTV the clear carrier sheet that's on it shouldn't touch any or part of the same design cause the HTV will stick to the carrier sheet if at all possible can get it seamless like the black one you did is gorgeous they are beautiful I've been working with HTV for years love it and there's so many colors, designs, patterns I love watching your videos you explain things like no one else to help people like me that's just starting out making tumblers there or only a few like you that explains things if everyone could be like you that's why they called tutorials to help teach others and you Luxinda do just that..........
Thank you so much!!! I will pay better attention to the seam trimming - thanks for the tip!
I've used HTV on tumblers but have been meaning to test out a wrap with my press for a while and haven't gotten to it. Thanks for doing it, now I can just plan some pretties!! lol Thanks for doing the hard part! lol
Oh, definitely! I have an upcoming video in which I test if pressed on full-wrap glitter HTV will pull up a spray paint base. That should be tomorrow or Sunday's video.
@@Luxinda awesome! I watch all of your videos (some under a different name lol), so I am sure I will see it!
Absolutely stunning and beautiful I love them both

Thank you!!
Thank you. These look amazing. I have a mug press attachment for my vevor heat press, but thought I could only use it to sublimate and I don’t do that. Can’t wait to htv all the cups.
Oh, definitely!!!
Oh well done clever lady. They turned out beautiful. What about doing one on a woodgrain done with alcohol ink?
Thank you!!! I was actually wondering about pressing onto some sort of alcohol ink base 🤔 Definitely have to try that!
They are beautiful!! Love the design and the sparkle!!! I’m glad it worked out, great idea to try your heat press. 💖✨💖✨💖
Thank you so much 🤗
Awesome!! You can do it with a heat gun also but the press works way better.
Thank you!! Yes, I saw someone awhile back (Everything Tumbler Tutorials maybe?) add an HTV name onto a tumbler with her heat gun. It didn’t seem particularly easy, but it did open the door to having a lot more vinyl prints and designs available.
I’m sooo excited for this! I’ve been wondering how HTV would work with a tumbler and was to chicken to try!!!!
😁😁😁Happy to help!
WOW, they are gorgeous, wish you shipped to denmark...... but i can chose wich one they are soooo pretty! awesome job
Thank you so much!!
Beautiful. I just started a week ago, and you have given me great insight. I am going to try this.... Thank you.
Thank you so much!!😊😁
Great tutorial! The tumblers are simply stunning- I’ve gotta try this soon. Have a stock pile of tumblers I need to sell.
Thank you!! Go for it!😊
So are they sublimation tumblers
No, they are stainless steel double-wall tumblers, used mostly for resin projects. But in this case I pressed HTV (heat transfer vinyl) onto them. There is no sublimation involved.
I love this i was wondering for a long time if it would work. Thank you🎉
Thanks! Hope it helps 😊
Beautiful cups I need a cup press now lol I've been wanting to try this thank you for sharing how it works
Thank you!!! They’re pretty fun 😊

Loved your video.. but what did you spray on the cups after the resin??
Thank you! I mist the resin with 99% isopropyl alcohol to pop any bubbles.
@@Luxinda thank you. I love your video. Do you have a video of how you prepared the cup with the paint? Would love to learn how to do that

OMG so excited to see this. make think it would work to do makes me want to go get a tumbler press. I was wondering though... do you think putting glitter then resin til smooth then doing the HTV would work as well? I guess it would depend on the heat temp that the resin could handle. These are so gorgeous!! Thank you and Happy Easter.
Thank you!! Well, we'll be finding out soon, because that's my next test - LOL! I'm hoping that because the press is only for 15 seconds, then pause, then 15 seconds, that there won't be enough time for the heat to really affect the resin. And KS Resin is rated to 450-degrees F, soooooo it should work. 🤞
@@Luxinda I was thinking that most resins are good for like up to 400 degrees.
❤❤❤
😊😊
Love these tumblers. What did you paint them with?
@@judyvinson779 the green one was spray painted with a dark green Rustoleum matte paint. I think the name of it was forest green or hunter green. The silver tumbler wasn’t painted at all, it was straight out of the box then cleaned off with some rubbing alcohol.
WhTs the name of your heat press? Tumblers turned out Gorgeous As Always you Explain everything so Good it’s so easy to understand I Loved when you said “Hot Damn” I Cracked up Laughing I Love Watching you and your videos❤️‼️❤️‼️‼️
Thank you!! 😁😁 Regarding the tumbler press... I don’t recommend this specific tumbler press anymore. Not because there’s anything wrong with the machine, but because the company selling it has very poor customer service. @@Luxinda Thank You I sent them an email asking about the heat press
I wonder if you should have placed vinyl and removed transfer tape before pressing. Place Teflon wrap and then press?
I think that might be pretty difficult to do -- while I was able to pull the excess HTV off during weeding, it stretched and tore quite a lot -- it's very firmly stuck to the backing and doesn't really want to release until it's heated. I might have been able to do that if I'd wrapped it on then used a heat gun on it to try and release the backing, and then wrapped it in something like parchment paper and pressed it. I can tell you that the Teflon sheet directly on the HTV during pressing will transfer the texture of the Teflon sheet onto the HTV. The vinyl goes from being flat and shiny to being matte and textured. Which can be really cool looking, but maybe not desired every time.
Where can I get a design like this to try? I love the black and silver.
Tooled Leather artwork: etsy.me/38RDKpg
Thank you for this video. Love the pattern and love how these turned out, and that glitter… 🤩. Do you think this would work on a tumbler using shrink wrap in toaster oven as that’s how I would sublimate? I’ll have to experiment too.
Thank you!!! I honestly don’t know, because I’ve never sublimated with the oven method, and my hands are so useless, I’m not sure I could wrap anything tightly enough for that. I have seen folks wrap on HTV plus some protective sheet like Teflon or parchment then use a hand iron. If you do experiment with the oven method, please let me know how it goes!!
@@Luxinda I will definitely. Thanks Cindy
didnt know HTV works on tumblers, how was it after washing? oh and will it also work on ceramic or glass mugs?
It sticks great when heat pressed onto a painted tumbler, then I covered the entire cup with a coat of epoxy resin. So the cup washes fine in that situation. I’m sure it will also heat press onto mugs and glass fine, although I’m not sure in those situations how it would hold up to repeated washings with no protective layer over it.
Question: does it feel "raised"? Can you use HTV that would be used for fabric? How did you fix the seam on the green one? why did that part lift? was it the overlap? I didn't see you sand the cups. Was that a necessary step or just skip doing it and stay shiny? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks.
Donna
Yes, the HTV does feel slightly raised, but that disappears under resin. This is the same HTV that is used on fabric. Those extra bits on the seam were vinyl from the overlap, and because they came off the backing, they were easy to just press down (they stuck fine). But, yes, I'd have less trouble if I did a better job of trimming everything first so there's no overlap. I did not sand the black on steel one, because I didn't want scuff marks. But the green one had been sanded before I sprayed it green. No worries 😊 Thanks for watching!!!
I wonder if you can do it in a confection oven
I’m not sure if even wrapping it up tightly with tape like a full-wrap sublimation tumbler would provide enough pressure, but maybe. You can do it with an iron, though.
Ok, now the question, can you do this on a tumbler that already has resin on it?? So over a glitter/resin base?
I'm working on that video right now 😊
Next experiment: can you put glitter on the cup first and then put the HTV on it!
Ooooooh!! 🤔🤔🤔🤔
What kind of glitter did you use? I love the sparkle
Isn’t it beautiful!✨✨The glitter is called Brite from Peachy Olive Glitter peachyoliveglitters.com/products/brite
Do you think having resin as a base and then putting heat transfer paper would mess up the resin base? I haven’t found anything saying not to do this but I still don’t know
It definitely could mess up the resin. I recently was trying to repair a tumbler by heating the resin to see if I could soften it and press out a lump. What happened instead is the resin completely cracked like glass -- it pretty much ruined that layer of resin because air got in under the crack and the resin started to pull away from the tumbler. So if you have a layer of resin then try to heat press something onto it, that sort of cracking could happen. There might be a lower heat setting that would let you get away with pressing without cracking the resin, but I honestly don't know what that setting would be, and if it's too low to properly set the heat transfer paper. Of course, it could also work just fine, but you'll need to do some experimenting to find out. If you do give it a try, please come back and let us know what happened.
This should work on using on sublimation tumblers that I messed up 😂
Definitely!!
Hi! Just did a few. Question....do you spray seal before epoxy? I used glitter vinyl, pain in the butt. So wondering if these should be sealed to prevent fisheyes etc
Hi! I would say it’s always safer to go ahead and seal if you aren’t sure. Especially if fisheyes might occur. I haven’t worked specifically with glitter htv, but it certainly sounds like a good idea to spray a layer of clear over the cup. In general, spray sealing can’t hurt and just makes the whole project take a little longer. Let me know what happens 😊
May I ask why you painted that tumbler first?
Most folks spray paint their tumblers to achieve a certain base color. You can also paint on a base with a brush if you don’t have spray or bad weather prevents using any at the time. Or you can leave the stainless showing, which gives a different look to the tumbler.
Those tumblers look like they have multi colored lights on them! What’s giving that effect?
That amazing sparkle in the reveal shot at the end is because I added a squirt of Marabu glitter alcohol ink and a dash of "Brite" glitter from Peachy Olive Glitters to the layer of resin I applied to both cups.
Try peeling while still warm to hot. Less chance of it taking paint with it
Thank you - I appreciate the tip!!!
With HTV do you still feel the layer of vinyl on tumblers/glass?
If you heat press HTV onto a tumbler or coffee mug or whatever and don’t do anything else, yes you will feel the edges. If you resin over the whole thing (and that may require a couple layers of resin), then no, the surface will be smooth.
I haven't tried resin yet, do you have to wear a mask to do this procedure?
That’s another one of those personal choice situations. Some people do wear a respirator, some people don’t. I happen to wear one, but you should do your own research by going to the website if the specific epoxy resin you’re using and read their MSDS (material safety data sheets) about the potential dangers, then you can decide if a respirator is the way to go.
Does anyone know how it works without the resin? Like the washing ?
In theory, heat pressing vinyl onto a tumbler or onto ceramic or glass should all be finished and not needing a further coat of anything. I’m not convinced of the durability of this particular glitter vinyl, but regular (sold-color) HTV should stay on. How many washings it will endure, I can’t say, but it’s supposed to be durable. I mean it gets pressed onto fabric then run through a clothes washer and dryer. I would just advise testing it after heat pressing to see how much wear and tear it can withstand.
