*Great air pump **MyBest.Tools** Faster than my old plug in pump and twice as handy without having to drag the cord around. And it works with my existing Ryobi drills battery.*
Great product!! I purchased one to keep in truck for emergencies. I needed today to air up a home gas line to test it and forgot to bring large compressor I usually use. I thought, save a trip to shop and try the ryobi, may take 15-20 minutes. Man, was I blown away, it pressurised the entire system in 2 minutes to 40 lbs. Well done ryobi, don't need the old bulky anymore. I've become a ryobi addict
This unit is MUCH faster with a high capacity battery. Works great, and fits in the glove box. Filled up a commercial mower tire from 5 to 20 psi in 1.5 minutes.
I bought one of these to top up and maintain our car's tires. First negative was the dial/indicator being 10 psi off. Otherwise, at first it seemed OK. Near the end of that "5 min. duty cycle" it can get pretty hot to hold. If you go beyond it, it becomes extremely hot and begins to smoke as the smell of burnt plastic wafts around you. Finally after a year or so mine died. So I got the P739 1ga. compressor for $99 instead. While not for the trunk of the car, it seems much better for my use around the house/garage. This hand-held unit only performed as well as seen here for a while. It went downhill after a few months of seldom being used. It came to where the 5+ minute run was required to just do a 5psi bump in pressure to top off. So imagine that thing vibrating in your hands, holding on that trigger, its hot, and you are stooped over for 5 min at a time and run around the vehicle this way for 4 tires. Not fun. Also, for me to add up to 5psi on 4 tires is several standard 18v batteries. At least 2. Better than going to a gas station - you bet. But I'd never buy one again once I learned more about 12v tire inflators and Ryobi's own small compressor.
Depends on the tool and how often you use it. I have several ryobi, Milwaukee, and makita..there is a difference but every once in a while ryobi comes out with a tool that punches up at the competition for half the price like their brad nailers, and narrow crown staplers. But with their newer brushless hp line their pricing isn’t as attractive as it use to be. I always try to buy the best brand on a sale, but sometimes when you need a tool you just need it and ryobi has a very expansive line for sure.
I've been pretty happy with all the Ryobi tools i've bought. I'm actually really impressed with how long the batteries hold a charge. I've had some that have been sitting for over a year that still worked a decent amount without even being charged first
I picked one up yesterday, now they have a digital gauge. I picked it up for my mountain bike, its been getting a lot of flats, those 29 inch tires take a lot of air and I got tired of buying CO2 cartridges! Some other ones shut down when it reaches the desired pressure You can use a bungee cord to hold the trigger...
My first thought when I saw that flat tire was that you were going to burn the unit up running it for 10 minutes straight. Holy crap, you are the first RUclipsr that actually read the manual before making another trip back to Home Depot! I've had that inflator for a couple of years now and I really like it. I wanted this one over the larger model because it is so small and convenient. I actually use mine quite a bit and it has held up really - but I read the instruction manual first. If you haven't already done so, I suggest that you check the pressure gauge for accuracy because they are notoriously inaccurate. I got lucky and mine is spot on.
I read the manual and it scared me because I've had my Ryobi sealed in the box for 2 years in the trunk of my car. It says not to keep it in your vehicle. (I drove across the USA 2 yrs ago and that's why I bought it.) I think it will be OK after seeing your video. I previously had an inflator that plugged into the car. It caught fire after running it for several minutes. Glad it didn't blow up.
I'm keen to use this on a water bike where it only needs to inflate to 7.5PSI, I previously injured my back (twice) using the supplied dual-stroke hand pump (the up stroke seems to place undue pressure on one's lower back, especially when pumping to above 5.5PSI).
Even with a 50/50 run cycle of 5 on 5 off it would have been just fine to went ahead and ran it the 6 minutes to fully fill that tire. It’s when you get to running double or more time like 10 minutes plus that the motor will burn up. I wouldn’t suggest pushing any farther than 7 minutes myself but it would have definitely been fine for this 6 minute fill.
Where it really shines is for 4x4 guys that are constantly going up and down in pressures to deal with specific terrains. If I'm on the highway I want up to 40psi in my ATs for the ride and fuel economy. If I'm in sloppy mud or sand I may take that down as far as 15psi or so. Sometimes even less. This tool is awesome for that. You dont have to have a dedicated compressor set up in your truck. You can just have this in your tool bag.
I just bought it at Home Depot for $ 20 (without batteries), as I had some batteries for it, it was my perfect purchase, I only use it to rectify the air pressure of my tires and without the need to connect it for easier use .
Same here! Mine was delivered yesterday by FedEx. It was a great deal! I have another inflator that I mainly use for my car tires when they get a bit low, but they're tethered to the car interior outlets. This inflator is so portable. I think this will be much easier. I agree with you 100%!
I just pick up one of their brad nailers, two 4ah batteries, and got a work light for free. Now I'm seeing how many awesome tools they make for their 18v system! I'm blown away. I'm a die-hard Makita guy, but I'm about to diversify
It's a light duty pump....soccer balls, "topping off" tires, bike tires, etc..its a huge strain to fill an entire flat tire but glad u were able to show it can do the trick. Good job
The problem with this pump is the plastic piston. The manual claims not to run it longer than 5 minutes.i burned mine out by using a spring clamp and filling pickup truck tires. The next model up with the digital display you can set and walk away is a hell of an improvement
I really like the tool. No need to plug into the vehicle lighter socket for power. It should have a trigger lock switch. A few times when I picked it up and accidently triggered power I got startled from the sudden noise of it.
@@MrRayMac1963 my single (and old) 2aH battery was plenty for refilling my 215/65R16 tires! I aired down to about 24 PSI from 35 PSI and back up. I do understand that with larger tires or repeated fill ups you would want a higher capacity battery.
Only problem i found with mine is if you go longer than the 5 minutes your risking blowing a hole in hose at motor outlet. Motor gets real hot if ran too long. Pressure is good. If like me you do blow hose, its easy enough to take it apart and cut damaged hose off and replace and secure with hose clamp. Back in business. Thumbs up!
My Fiat 500 doesn’t come with a spare. I can see where if I were having frequent flats but waiting to get tires for payday I could just keep this in my car. I love Ryobi tools
Is it me or did your tire still look like it needed more air? The gauge said 40psi but the tire looked half flat. I agree with the other commenter, it does need a trigger lock but the trigger is so sensitive, a simple Velcro strap would do the trick. Nice review, thanks!
I'm thinking bout getting one but it's kinda big to ride around on my fat tire ebike but the unit itself look and works pretty good judging from this video tho..I'll run into my local home Depot and get a closer look and decide if I'll pick up one..
I was a bit dubious when I bought it. There are a few things I’d change, and the gauge on something like this will always be an estimate, but on the whole it’s fantastic!
Wait until Christmas to buy the 4ah batteries. Buy a couple double packs for approx $50.00. Then start buying more Ryobi tools. I like all the ones I own and Ryobi never changes the battery style like all the other brands do.
Ryobi opted for no ball bearings on connecting rod and main gear hub, as seen on other YT videos showing 737 repairs. Similar analog or digital gauge inflators sold under Avid, MasterWorks, HyperTough and PowerFist, etc brand names have ball bearings and li-ion battery with charger included at around $50. Ryobi quality has slipped from early days of making Craftsman drills for Sears with prices often as high as pro brands like Makita. These inflators do better with some white lithium grease on plastic main gear to reduce wear and heat. Don't run pump more than five minutes without cool down period or it can be damaged by overheating. If gear starts jumping teeth, reverse wires on motor to run it backwards. This puts compression stroke on different teeth, and adds extra life to pump.
They make a different one that will fill a flat tire from flat better that’s just for 20 psi or less, have been filling a 5 psi loss tire per day for weeks and this is amazing but upgrading the battery is s must if you want it to do more

Mine just quit on me--after 5 years, so it was well worth the $20. I replaced it with the next model up ($58) with a digital gauge and no "trigger" thing--dial in the desired PSI, push a button, and walk away.
Mostly this inflator is good but not sure how accurate the gauge is. Worst thing about it is the trigger. It doesn't have a lock or some type of guard, so it gets activated quite often if placed in a crate along with other items, and the vehicle encounters a rut or speed bump. Everyone in the car gets a scare whenever that happens. The only way around it is to remove the battery before driving out, but that exposes the battery contacts and needlessly becomes a safety hazard.
Damn, no wonder all my high pressure tire inflators died or broke on me. I kinda knew it was getting hot, but didn't really think about how I probably should let them cool down instead of just running them all the way to full pressure.
i have one it works well but don't trust the gauge on them they are wrong. i have even pumped up a 1952 john deere mt rear tractor tire. It will do the job but takes forever. I believe these are mainly made for bicycle tires and lawn mower. but overall i love my ryobi tire pump.
I think the soft trigger is kind of nice, because I've had some inflators where I have to hold for the 5+ minutes and just end up with a sore grip after that much time from having to hold it tight. I think I'll pick up the updated model of this! Thanks!
I really like this for my ATV kit. Im guessing it should inflate an ATV tire in under 5 minutes. Everything else I found takes 10 - 20 minutes and is really expensive. We distribute these at my job in bulk and I’ve always wandered about them. Thanks good vid. However I think I will pass on the purchase.. there should be a leave-on feature or something... I can just imagine being pre-irritated, on the side of the road on a hot day and having to crouch down and hold the trigger for 5-10 minutes depending if I’m driving the truck ..
My inflator pressure gauge was reading 10lb too high which meant, until I realised and checked independently, I was under inflating my tires....Don't trust it, is my advice.....
There is a better inflator that Ryobi makes. You set the psi then turn it on and walk away and it automatically shuts off at that psi. Plus it’s way faster and it’s not that much more than this one.
It has actually held up very well. I don't put it under many hardcore cases like the one is this video. However lots of low car tire fill ups, bike tire fill ups, basketballs, footballs, dolly tires, etc. I have found that the older model like mine with analog gauge is in fact off at least a pound or so, but cannot speak how accurate the newer digital gauges are.
My guess would be then they would have to install a temp safety sensor that shuts down the unit, this makes for more complexity thus the price going up, when it's just intended for soccer balls and topping up tires.
I ended up putting a piece of duct tape across trigger to hold on. Only problem with that is "DONT FORGET IT"! It will melt the rubber hose where it attaches to pump motor. Easily fixed though.
Rip off. I bought air inflator for $36 (teaser rate) just to find it with no battery, then bought battery separately for $94, then I come home and find that battery with low charge and no way to charge it. I’m not buying the charger I’m returning it all and buying plain old air compressor for a fraction. Of what I paid

No
Best $40 I ever spent no more paying $5 to air up a single tire but mine has a digital gauge on it
Picked it up today for 20 bucks.
How accurate is your pressure gauge? Mine seems to read about 8 psi high. Wasn't sure if that was normal or I should exchange it.
Will hmmm I actually haven't tested it against another pressure gauge. I will have to get a base line to see if mine is off
The newer model (I have) has a digital pressure gage - more accurate then the dial gage (I had).
Does this one say it can be used on car tires?
What about trying to inflate a road bike tire that requires 100 psi.
a trigger lock would be nice so you don't have to hold it forever
My inflator pressure gauge was reading 10lb too high which meant, until I realised and checked independently, I was under inflating my tires....Don't trust it, is my advice.....
Milwaukee has an m12 version of this available now
why does your tire still look like it needs a lot more air at 40 lbs?
How is it now
Love how he says Ryobi 🤣
I want to get one to inflate my bike tires at the trail. I'm tired of pumping.
you pedal bike...why not pump ?
You don't need an automatic tire inflator for a bike. Just use a foot peddle.
Not sure if just me?
WHY does the the house get so Freakin HOT, after the 1st 10lbs of use?
Mine is about two years old and the hose has started to leak right at the plastic housing of the unit. arrgghhh!
You need to spend some time in the tool section at Home Depot. Milwaukee and Dewalt make much better air pumps then that.
@Johnny Tramain Probably more expensive Johnny
I saw this at Home Depot today and figured I'd check some reviews before considering it - it seems as useless as I initially thought.
How much ? Do you have to hold the trgger ?
Yes you do but use a rubber band to hd the trigger down without use of your hand.
This tool needs a trigger guard or lock ..... To stop the trigger from being pushed while it's in a box with other tools

I have the updated one with the digital gauge and it is accurate.
Your opening slate is misspelled.... LOL...

My guess would be then they would have to install a temp safety sensor that shuts down the unit, this makes for more complexity thus the price going up, when it's just intended for soccer balls and topping up tires.
NO sound?
Mine is about 10 lbs off so you had probably 30 psi
set up easy
You need to spellcheck you lead-in banner. Or get mum to check it for you.

I ended up putting a piece of duct tape across trigger to hold on. Only problem with that is "DONT FORGET IT"! It will melt the rubber hose where it attaches to pump motor. Easily fixed though.
