All my gold coins , except one in my collection are pre-33. I like the designs and you can pick up some very good buys. I'll take a pre-33 over a Panda any day. Thanks for the video Numi.
Pre-33’s are my favorite, even if not the best investment. Lots of history attached to these coins. I focus on Civil War era 1861-1868 dates. True works of art in my opinion.
I don’t buy gold and silver as an investment. That’s what my 401(k), IRA, and real estate are for. I buy it because I get a warm fuzzy just by having it.
I would say high grade pre 33 coins would be a good numismatic investment for the future . A small percentage of each date is going to grade high because they were used, where as every Libertad, Queens Beast, Panda, etc. was minted then put in plastic and rarely touched. Everyone goes silly if their new mint coin grades 69 or less but a Pre 33 $10 Indian in 60 or higher is a great find. It seems like the mints in many countries are pumping out a different bullion coin every second week, maybe one day collectors will catch on to being played and turn back to coins with a bit of history.
To me, the pre - 33 gold is probably the best and most reasonable classic golden eye candy out there. I can look at these pieces all day long. Also 50 pesos Mexican gold is up there with them. Perfect Pandas, Libertads, Maple Leaf pieces, etc.are just freshly stamped gold for stackers and perfection investors. However, variety in your stack makes the world go round. Thanks for sharing the beauty of these gold pieces with us all, Numi!
One of the best videos on pre 33 gold and grading. I agree that it is likely to purchase graded pre 33 gold for the same money as a raw piece cost. I also agree the Indian full eagle is my personal favorite. Thanks for the video!
great video, ive started stacking and these videos of the old u.s gold coins, buying and selling and evolving are much appreciated. thank you. i currently have a 1914d 2.5 dollar, and have a 5 dollar on the way...i really like the designs of the liberty head. i also have a victorian half soverign, melbourne mint, and a full 1885 victorian soverign. ive recently started buying slabbed morgan dollars ms63 or above, my longterm goal is to build upto that glorious 10 dollar liberty, but my favourite coin is the lage eagle with the liberty head the head dress feathers. cheers
Pre 1933 I believe is us bullion centric around the gold confiscation order where if it got reenacted they would be exempt? Disadvantage as investment is when you sell its difficult to get close to gold spot as its not standard and so cost of selling is huge because you may be forced to auction or give far biger cut to dealer. Also not cap gains free. Nice to collect if the money is there but in uk I believe would not be great as investment. Thanks for these thought provoking videos from many angles
Investment grade double eagles ms 65 or better preferably liberty head double eagles. St. Gaudens are all fairly common. 10 dollar Indian gold coins are great for investment ms 65 or better.
Very nice coins. I have also been buying Pre-33 gold when the budget allows. I usually go for the double eagles if the premiums are right. I am also picking up American eagles and Buffalos when I can catch a low premium. Thanks for sharing!!
I picked up a nice one last year after watching an other one of your videos, a 1904 $20 graded au53 and as you say a nice piece to own and to date my only American coin. Personally I prefer Victorian sovereigns and perhaps Georgian Guineas but nothing is cast in stone or in this case minted in gold.
ok it sounds like you're saying just pass on common dates and if you're stacking for weight just stick to modern bullion which is currently cheaper / oz
Thank you. The US pre 1933 gold coins are beautiful and sound like good value but tricky picking them up here in Australia. Great Pandas, love the Panda coins. Looking forward to the 300 coin un boxing coming up.
I'm just starting out a journey of putting together a MS-60+ PRE-33 12 coin type set, got 2 pieces so far and I'm hoping to have all 12 in the next few months. The lower the premiums the better it is for me to get nice coins. just turned 30, by the time I donate this set to grandkids it should be something amazing.
I want to get a Classic Head quarter eagle. That coin was only minted five years (1834-1839). The Classic Heads are scarcer than the Liberty Heads & Indian Heads
I think that coins should be kept raw if not already graded. The bullion companies have contracts with NGC and PCGS and send in giant orders for grading. They get huge discounts on grading fees and in my opinion they also get higher grades on their coins than they should be. It’s the cost of doing buisness and greed always wins. Those grading companies probably wouldn’t thrive without those big companies and all their huge orders. So never buy a graded coin from Apmex or any company like that. Always buy the coins that are in the older holders. And if you buy pre1933 coins raw, and you like the way they look, keep them that way. You will likely only break even or lose some of your investment to the grading service. Most of the professionals that I talk to agree on this. It is. I will keep all my coins raw until there is a computer that can do the grading without biased and all coins can be graded under the same standards. People have too much emotions and in this day in age do not need to be grading coins. The technology is already here for this to happen. If a person wants to stick a CAC sticker on them than I’m ok with that. But we mit know that it is only in that persons eyes that that particular coin is appealing. Not everyone is looking for the same thing.
If I had extra cash I would be looking for Pre 1933 US gold and if things go right I will be able to start looking in a couple of months. You probably have answered the many times before but I have missed it -- You are always using NGC for grading is there a reason you use them over PCGS?
The gold double eagles cost about the same as krugerands but are much more interesting designs, so are a good choice for gold bullion investors and maybe in the future may come back in favour as a collectors coin
Nice group of gold...will say that if the consignor thinks the grades on his labels are correct they may be disappointed. Few cleaned coins too. If they want a real assessment on each coin, I can email you what I would grade them....but I imagine they are all getting graded. In any event, lovely gold.
BTW speaking of lack of opportunities? Lower income people get totally screwed over if they want to own some gold ...EVERY sub one ounce coin or bar has a massive premium attached to them then to rub salt in the wounds? If one lives in various stages like California? They charge sales tax of from 7.5% maybe up to 10% dependant on the county but for ALL gold purchased in California you pay sales tax UNLESS the purchase of over $1500 minimum ...generally meaning an ounce or more (maybe it even has to be "monitized" to qualify even then? Which is yet ANOTHER premium) ...How is this okay? Just because someone has less income they have to pay like 30% MORE to participate in owning precious metals??? Angers me personally
i always find graded coins are always more expensive than non graded, at least if you get a low grading on your coins at least you know they are not fakes...
Im thinking of getting a small collection of pre 33 gold coins to add to my collection. Just as soon as i get my sovereign addiction Sorry collection in order
In a bull market, the pre 33 coins dry up FAST and the premiums sky rocket. The Saint Gaudens* especially. At least thats what I saw about 10/12 years ago
The pre 33vis like the sovereigns you get in the UK. Having a pre 33 coin in high grade doesn’t make a difference because they look great in either grade. If you hate the double eagle, I’ll take it.
The end ? Gold is breaking out to upside fear is growing at least in USA metals are defensive let me know how long you in Florida want to send you something
It seems that RUclips erased my previous channel because they seem to frown on people openly voicing the truth, so my replies to these videos have been removed along with my channel but these are my coins and brother Numi is the best, ive been following him for years now. ITS NICE TO BE BACK AGAIN. Those coins graded well, one Indian head was actually a fake. The pandas graded 69
I'm a little ignorant to the importance of pre 33. Whats the significance? Also that first Indian head you showed the 1915 looks very suspicious. The dirt in the letters is way too randomly placed to be natural. Some letters perfectly clean some completely filled? I smell a rat! The last $20 liberty head is stunning. Why don't modern British bullion coins have that beautiful lustre? They just look over shiny to me, it's a shame really in my opinion
That’s an interesting point I think modern coin presses have taken us backward in that respect.. we do need to get back to more old fashioned engraving though
In a nutshell prior to 1933 gold was money in the US and afterwards not. On April 5, 1933 President Franklin Roosevelt signed executive order 6102. With that order US circulating gold coin was taken out of circulation. Americans were forbidden to keep anything but a small amount of gold coins and were forced to sell their gold coins back to the banks for $20.67/oz. Subsequently it was illegal for Americans to buy or hold gold coins for investment until 1974. Some people now are of the opinion that since the pre 1933 coins survived the gold seizure they will now be considered “numismatic” and collectors will be allowed to keep them if in the future there is another gold “nationalization”.
Damn Numistacker has been spying on me. I just got two qtr eagles today from Apmex thru Ebay 15% off one liberty head one indian head. Idk what the prices were a few years ago but they are not too much more than a sovereign now. Mine are in nice condition. Better than some of the coins he shows in the video.
All my gold coins , except one in my collection are pre-33. I like the designs and you can pick up some very good buys. I'll take a pre-33 over a Panda any day. Thanks for the video Numi.
I like both myself and both are good in their own ways
Pre-33’s are my favorite, even if not the best investment. Lots of history attached to these coins. I focus on Civil War era 1861-1868 dates. True works of art in my opinion.

Some of the new ones are fun to collect. Raw, not slabbed.Modern coin grading is silly

So you should re-do this video and see how that comes out.?
is +/- $100 over a gold eagle/buffalo for a AU pre-33 coin a fair value? I have not idea what historical premiums have been on pre-33 double eagles
Investment grade double eagles ms 65 or better preferably liberty head double eagles. St. Gaudens are all fairly common. 10 dollar Indian gold coins are great for investment ms 65 or better.
Pre 33 has become a new obsession for me. I’ve been flipping parts of my coin collection to get the pre33’s before gold alone becomes unobtainium.
Very nice coins. I have also been buying Pre-33 gold when the budget allows. I usually go for the double eagles if the premiums are right. I am also picking up American eagles and Buffalos when I can catch a low premium. Thanks for sharing!!
I'm not sure what your concern is with how 'late' the coin was minted.
I picked up a nice one last year after watching an other one of your videos, a 1904 $20 graded au53 and as you say a nice piece to own and to date my only American coin. Pre 33 gold rules and yes it is bullion unless its a key date or an exceptional grade. I buy bullion grade pre 33 gold all day.
In a bull market, the pre 33 coins dry up FAST and the premiums sky rocket. The Saint Gaudens* especially. At least thats what I saw about 10/12 years ago
All I stack are pre 1933 . I’m not even thinking about thinking about buying rounds or bars 😊
Most likely to increase the incuse indian heads, $1 gold, $3, Classic Heads and No Mottos as well as some later dates.
