    the gunmoney 1689 is absolutely amazing ! wouldn't believe its a geniune coin if it wasn't graded by a tpg, the surface, the quality of the strike, just too good ! A true beautifull coin i would be glad to own, congratulation to the owner !
    good video as always !

      Hey, that is my coin. Yes, it's a really nice result. I'm considering parting with it, but I'm not sure though as it's got such an amazing story behind it.

    Hey numi,
    You say you have to be careful buying raw coins because you never know if they have been cleaned.
    My view is the people who bought these obviously liked them, were proud and happy enough to package them up and send them for grading. Are you telling me that now the so called experts at ngc have now condemned them as cleaned and the owners are going to be disappointed with the grades?
    I don't understand why people do this.
    Pointing out a fake is fair enough, but please guys, enjoy your coins, don't let these snake oil salesmen ruin your hobby.
    If you like a coin buy it and keep it raw.
    Snap up all the slabbed coins with the dreaded cleaned designation for a fraction of the price of an MS equivalent and break it out of its hideous plastic coffin and enjoy owning it!

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 лет назад +3

      AG Smith yes most of what you say I agree with. Buy the coin not the slab for sure. Lots of these coins are lovely in or out of a slab. The problem seems to be that so many old coins have been cleaned at some stage in their life and it seems unpredictable as to whether the grading companies will pick up on a particular coins historical cleaning or not.

      I am afraid to say, that sometimes NGC have got it wrong as regards a coin being cleaned. And I have to say that it depends who examined the coin in the first case. Knowing if a coin has been cleaned or not, does takes years of knowledge, and understanding coins. You have to take into account signs of old cleaning, Where is was cleaned, then over the years another toning appears, but you can still see it has been cleaned. Then you got hairlines where its been wiped, but an average collector cannot see the hairlines, only under light. Then you get the people who dipped the coin, which are all signs of cleaning. Then of course you get coins, which any average collector can tell that its been buffed, Most times the slabbing companies do get it about right, but I have seen some very bad blunders done by slabbing companies, and what does annoy me is when a coin is graded returned, taken out of the holder then sent to the slabbing company again, and gets a higher grade, it then becomes a racket, and its a case of big bucks talking.

    Interesting results.
    You should not beat yourself up for not seeing cleaned or fake coins.
    It is not your job, it must be the responsibility of the owner, period.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 лет назад +1

      You are absolutely right but I can’t help but feel guilty or personally responsible in someway and perhaps I should have done a better job.

    • @akeman21
      @akeman21 6 лет назад +1

      Sure, but let's assume you turn down a coin as you think cleaned. The owner send it in him self and get it graded. You end up in an impossible situation if you start pre grading your self.

      Many attempts to clean coins are painfully obvious. Gold in 20 -24 kt. show cleaning marks easily. Worn and harder coins sometimes take a stare at 100x.

    Belize is a good place to dive. The Blue Hole is 406 feet deep, not 130 feet. It's a strange dive because you can't get near the bottom.

  • @philippayne4951
    @philippayne4951 5 лет назад

    This is another point about coins being cleaned, and where is this going to lead. For example do they consider gently washing a gold sovereign in soap and water, rinsing in water then just dabbing not rubbing until dry. Do they consider this cleaning.? Providing, no hair lines given or signs of rubbing, I would of thought not. Of course any forms of Abrasive in any form is out of the question, and would never be allowed for grading. if patina is visible or any form of luster, leave well alone.

    Hello Numistacker, you are mixing two coins as one. In Nepal you have Mohar (which is almost always silwer or bullion) and in India you have Mohur which is always gold. They are completely two different types, only they names are similiar.

    I would say that its correct to show the head of the Queen, with the picture of Westminter on the front of the slab, because the Monarch being head of state takes priority, and design is reverse. I would not send it back, because its correct as shown, and we would have done the same thing at the Royal mint. This is why the slabbing company have done it correctly, I am sure they would not reverse it.

    NGC is honest and not generous with their slabbing. Many American coins pre 1933 will not grade out due to amateur preservation and cleaning.

    I had an issue with a specific auction house losing my pedigree documents where I included original auction house tags from a Bowers sale from the early 80s. The coins came from a specific famous collection and the auction house conveniently lost the tags.

    I clean some of my own coins before I sleeve them. I spray some windex and very lightly rub with my thumb for 30 seconds on each side, then rinse well and let dry. I have yet to put any scratch marks or take away any real toning. I don't suggest anyone else does it as i'm sure it will take away some value. Just my own personal collection.

    I have a Struck on the day 2018 sovereign, will getting this graded increase the value? sorry if this sounds like a silly question I'm a total noob but if you don't ask you never learn.......Also I have a error with this coin, the royal mint has emailed me to say the error is with hand signed coa and only effected a very small number of people, the said they would put this in writing to me, and are asking I send the coa back to them and they will send me the correct hand signed one, its interesting is it worth keeping my hand on the original coa?

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 лет назад

      The market in these coins is way too thin and unpredictable to be sure if grading will add value to this coin. I have graded all of my own strike on the day coins but not in order to add value at this stage just in order to have them correctly designated.

    Why do people go spend money to get your coins graded? It’s easy to grade coins and the tools are fairly cheap if needed. If a coin is ms-65 then it’s ms-65 whether it’s ngc, anacs, or any company that says otherwise.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  6 лет назад +5

      Over 80,000,000 coins have been graded maybe more overall across all companies. Why? I suspect it’s to ease commerce and make it easier for buyers and sellers. Grading standards are very different across the grading companies and one man’s MS 65 is not the same as another man’s MS 65. As far as I can see only PCG ass and NGC are trusted and even then not fully trusted to get it right all the time. If I was buying your MS 65 coin and there was a big difference between the price of an MS 65 coin and MS 64 coin then clearly I would not want to take your word for the fact that the coin is an MS 65 I would definitely want to have it independently verified.
