    Numi - that's a lovely coin. Yesterday, in Perth Australia, I picked up my GB 1853 Sov PCGS PR DCAM 64 from Eric E. This is a truly beautiful coin as well. It compliments my GB 1825 Sov PSGS PR DCAM 63 I bought earlier last year. Dr Gary

    Gorgeous acquisition! Well done. I agree that this was a very special video. You are quite the professional and you already know what to do. I would hope with your relationship with NGC and NCS that they would take good care of you especially with all of the free advertising you give them in every video you produce.

    I really enjoyed your video, thank you. Despite being nearly 48, I'm very new to the hobby, and as yet, know very little, so your explanation of what exactly 'Proof Coins' are was very helpful. My first love is photography, so originally I just purchased some very cheap coins to take some pictures of, but my interest was sparked and now I want to carry on collecting. I don't have a lot to spend on my hobby, but that doesn't matter to me. I just like collecting coins at the moment! Kind regards.

    A second in silver dip would turn your coin into a fantastic PR65/6. What is really rare in older British proofs is a lack of hairlines due to cleaning. Yours is completely free of those, as the hairlines, as you stated, are die polishing lines.

    Great video, and fascinating to see how your collection evolved into this high premium ultra special area of coins. These coins stay with the holder for life often I am sure. I would advise not to conserve it. It's stunning as is and it's history travels with it imo would not conserve anything prior to 1980s and effectively modern proofs. None of my business of course, thanks for sharing!

    Why do you pay so much for coins without provenance?
    All the coin dealers / expert I know that collect, don't buy any coins for themself without it having old provenance, before 1970.

    • @Numistacker
      @Numistacker  4 года назад

      It has provenance of sorts as it was part of an established collection the GKW Roberts collection and clearly if it could be traced it goes back a long way.

    • @monetanova2605
      @monetanova2605 4 года назад

      @@Numistacker GKW Roberts collection is not provenance, he is a modern collector. When looking for provenance the coin needs to be linked to a person that died long time ago and collection sold long after their deaths or the coin need to be illustrated in an auction catalogue, some people accept old sale tickets too.
      I don't want to bash what you buy, but more people in the big game start ask for provenance on coins. Ancient coins with provenance goes many times over than a coin with no provenance. We see now in the big game, that coins from Virgil Brand, Ernst Otto Horn, Hohenkubin++ fetch premiums and it's increasing. I believe this will keep on going.
      Maybe one don't need to set a pedigree before 1970, like I have done. But I can guarantee you that in the future, people will ask more and more, I think a amateur collector like you, should focus on provenance at least before year 2000. I also want to note that British museum don't display old coins without provenance before 1970.
