Bow Hunting FERAL GOATS on an ISLAND!

- This week we're back with another catch and cook video from the Caribbean. We're hiking into a remote part of the island to do a little traditional bow hunting for feral goats. Feral goats can cause a lot of damage to the ecosystem and Matt (Alone Season 8) talks about how the landscape has changed since the goats moved in. But as destructive as they are, they're loads of fun to bow hunt and they taste great too. After the goat hunt, we head to the clear waters and grass beds just off the beach to snorkel and dive for conch. These large sea snails inhabit warm waters around the globe and are a tasty addition to any surf and turf meal. It takes a little practice to spot conchs on the sea floor because they're camouflaged and look much like the grass and sand that surrounds them. After we hunt, gather, and forage all the fixings, we head back to Matt's place to whip up some sautéed conch and wild goat tacos!
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow making, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

Spined him and quick follow up. Excellent job. Spining an animal is one of the toughest things a hunter ever has to address. I've done it and anyone who hunts for any length of time will eventually have it happen to them. Thank you for being such a great hunter and a great example for all other hunters
It is one of the toughest things. But seems like it can happen so easily. Especially with close up shots with a fast trad bow
I know little to nothing about hunting. But when I see someone taking an animal and worrying whether it was clean and rushing to end the suffering as quickly and painless as possible is it something to be respected.
What a freaking awesome adventure! This is now on my bucket list of places to visit! Thanks Clay and Liz!
Thanks Bruce
I like the little pieces of background talk at the table. You are living it. Enjoy!!!
Goat meat is so incredibly rich. Nice video, Clay! Looks like all had a blast
We did
That's the type of life we were all meant to live. Off the land & with friends and family,
Once I shot a billy that retreated to an ocean cliff and bedded in a cave 50 feet above water. I got an angle to do a follow up shot with my recurve because I didn't want to get in a cave with him alive in fear of being kicked out. After which me and a friend had to take a thin goat trail to the cave, where I climbed in and deboned the whole billy in a very claustrophobic scenerio. The best part was the boat of 30 some tourists under us who watched as they swam. Don't underestimate goats, they like some steep country. Congrats on the Ibex clay.
Now that’s an adventure!
@@clayhayeshunter you might like a visit to hawaii to do a similar trip, I wouldn't recommend doing it without someone knowledgeable on where to find animals wink wink but most everything is open by next weekend.
What a feast! Great family spirit there in Matt´s place, and nice underwater footage. Congrats on the goat!
I really enjoyed that video. Can't wait for next week 🙂
Great FUN Clay! Those shots off a steep hill are tough!
Nice quick dispatch….. good stuff.
Thanks again for putting these out. Always enjoy your videos, and always learn something.
Wow the great masters come together for these. Wonderful hunters in this part of the world
I went there is 1990 for two weeks of snorkeling. The coral was insane. The fish were plentiful. We dove all over the island. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Looks like I should book a trip there soon.
Very cool!
Awesome hunting and gathering! That meal looked amazing! Take care Clay and family and friends!
It WAS amazing!
That’s would make some nice curry goat
Love the family atmosphere!
That meal looked absolutely nuts
It was. Great time, good folks!
It would be interesting to explore the bow making possibilities of the materials the island has to offer. Wood. Horns. Something for shafts. Etc. Great video. Seems like a cool experience.
Good fodder for next year
Well, that looks like another awesome trip! Also, gotta love the old headbanger Guns-N-Roses tee. Lol
When you nailed the first shot, I was literally like, HOLY!!
food looked amazing cant wait for the next video thank you
I was there years ago. Left dreaming about a black powder hunt with an old flint lock, and 1700s clothing, for goats. There were plenty of them. Deer too. Guy should setup a hunting service there, with a beach cookout of curried goat afterwards. I would go for it!
Always enjoy watching your adventures Clay, that video actually made me hungry
Youre so lucky. Thanks for the adventure
Good job at rushing to the goat after the shot 👏 great video
KA video!! Thanks for your hard work and sharing!!
Thanks Randy
That looks like paradise to me and I’m an old mountain guy love the videos brother keep’em coming
It’s pretty dang close. Were already planning to take the boys back next year.
Awesome video bro. It was a huge honor to hang out with you two and get to hunt together. Thanks for sharing some great adventures.
Likewise

H Clay. Not totally related... but really nice interview in Traditional Bowhunter magazine April/May 2022 issue. Keep all the videos and experiences coming! : ) Blessing. Rick
Thanks Rick
Hey bud! I've been watching some old videos with Billy Molls. Your boys would love the bush plane stuff in his videos. Lots of good landings and take offs!
Cool!
Island taco's my favorite yummy 😋🤤
Mine too!
Right on brother! Praise The LORD! That was classic. Your blessed with the bow and arrow. Greatest land stealth hunter I ever seen. Mountain lion on that mountain goat for real! LOVE how you keep it old school. GOD is good. Bless The Lord!
Well this is just exactly what life is supposed to be. Damn I now know what needs doing.
Thanks a lot buddy
Go for it!
Another awesome video!
Looks like you had an awesome time!
We absolutely did
I think I need to go do this.
Wife said she's out. Looks like solo trip 😅.
Great job filming diving shots 👍
Haha, this would be great for her too. She can hit the beach while you hunt!
@@clayhayeshunter 😁👍she said as long as someone brings her drinks she's in 🤘
Magic place Clay
This was a great video. You were able to shoot a goat easily. And find seafood. much easier back at home for deer . Yeah that must be fun to hunt food easily. To bad the price of traveling is so expensive.
Super jealous man! Looked like a wicked trip!
It was!
Great video! I’m going to have to find a farm around here that has goat to try before hunting a wild one. I’m intrigued
What an awsome video!
good shot clay
My wife was raised on St Croix
She says there used to be lots of Mangoose.
Her family raised goats and they even had a half deer half goat that could jump over people
Half deer half goat?
When they gonna give you you’re own TV show 😂
Beautiful place and a great time! Looks like an amazing experience!
I like the idea on hunting in this video
great video!!
Great trip
Hell of a shot. That angle is tricky. He didn't suffer dead is dead.
Amazing trip ,they do whitetail hunting too? So exotic for a new Englander like myself
Yep, the deer are small.
I loved watching this, a really nice variety of content. I've got to ask though, how do you guys get a good seal with the mask having facial hair? The last couple of times I've been I've spent as long emptying my mask as I have with my face underwater
Awesome episode! The weekly uploads have become something my kids and I look forward to. I first saw untamed few years back and been watching ever since . Been a fan of the alone series since it’s beginning, and it is great to see Matt again. If you ever want to come to NewBrunswick, Canada for some episodes. I will be honoured to guide you on some catch and cooks . Stripped bass , black bear and diving for scallops is our spring season . There is bounty to be had in every season though. Throwing that out there . You and your family are living the dream and it’s a joy to watch . Thanks buddy
Thanks much
Good job
Wow! Really nice!
Muy buenisimo muy rico que bueno saludos de BsAs
12:15 you guys had an old goat walking right behind you and you had no idea!
That was a spread of food ,,,,,Big crew to boot ......Goat hunting looked like fun ,,,,,,Were they smelling you ? they scampered off pretty fast
Awesome video. What mask and fins did you use ?
These have been some of your best videos. Keep up the good work Clay. BTW where are those boys?
This one was for just Liz and I. I think we’ll go back next year and take them along.
Looks like a good source of horn to learn to make horn bows
Good shot
The " H " in Conch is silent like the " P " in swimming. ( Capt. John, Naples )
😆
Love it!
Great video. Looks amazing. I’d say that was a good kill, I bet after the initial impact he barely felt a thing. Looked to me like you severed the chord and the back end was completely out of action. You got down there and finished the job. Those conch look amazing, I hear they’re over fished in many places though? Beautiful though, those squid and Ray were stunning. You’re a truly fortunate man, in so many ways ❤
Going there this weekend I would love to try and fish to you got any suggestions
Looks like a fine vacation to me! I am enjoying every minute of it Clay! Keep shootin them videos!
Were those brown things squid? Can you shoot them too or are they different than the calamari we eat?
Yep, I speared a couple. They were fantastic eating.
Excellent adventure on a beautiful island.
Great fun.keep it up👍
Hey Clay...if possible...i would love to see you hunt a wild cow in Hawaii.
Did they introduce whitetail or are they native like keys deer?
The french introduced them in the 1600's for hunting.
Fantastic adventure Clay, I hope you show that beautiful pavilion in it’s entirety so we can see it all. It looks amazing.
It’s a nice place!
Very nice! Went to FL for a hog hunt and I am addicted. Off the bat got a 300lber.
You're making me want to be there.
Awsome.......
Enjoy hunting idol keep safe
Hey, you should ask your friend what fish are good to eat on saint thomas! I definitely don’t want to get that fish disease
I thought we had a good handle on that.
Awesome
Hey Clay, I have a stave i’m working on that has one side deflexed and one side straight, will that still work out alright and if so is there anything special I should do for it?
I usually get the bow floor tillered, then clamp the stave into a backset form and heat the limbs to make them match.
Thanks, now I am hungry! xD
🌮 I’m in
Awesome video!!! How did you finish off the goat? Did he put up a fight? I have wild goats and a mountain lion ate all the females. If it didn’t I’d have tons and they would destroy everything. I wasn’t ready to butcher any at that time myself. Great to see Matt in his element too! Amazing food! Thanks for sharing!
Probably a knife, he hit it in the spine so it probably couldnt move very well to resist, thats why you always carry a sharp hunting knife, to put them down quickly if this happens.
You did very well to even hit him with such a steep angle Clay..👏 great shot and great video, you can't beat fire pot cooked back straps 😋😋😋
@@puregameplay7916 thanks, I was actually wondering where he knifed him. Did he go for the throat? Or the heart?
@@SarahBEtv Ive always wondered what would be best myself if I ever wounded an animal. I had an experience recently where I was pheasant hunting and saw some people sitting in their truck at the side of the road. They drove away when they saw me, and I spotted a blood spot in the snow so I followed the trail. I didnt see it till I was 5 feet away, but there was a baby doe with a hole in its ass, laying on the ground slowly dying. Probably the worst shot ive ever seen taken on an animal, not only were they poaching out of season, but took a shot at a BABY doe that was running away. All I had on me was my brown bess flintlock loaded with 1 1/2 ounces of #6 birdshot, and really didnt feel like blasting the doe in the back of the head with that, so I pulled out my bowie knife and saw it start to rise to run off, I DOVE on the thing and held it down. I realized at that point that if I sliced its throat, it would have made a huge mess and I would have been covered in blood, so I wresteled it to its right side, and then as cleanly as I could I stuck the knife in where I thought its heart was. Must have got lucky cause it died pretty fast after that. Entire situation was traumatizing for me and I had nightmares for a few nights after. Definitely not the way you want to end an animal, and ESPECIALLY when its a poor little baby :( Who the fuck poaches a BABY doe out of season? I called the game warden after and let a local landowner know. Apparently they've seen those people around a few times and thought they might be poaching, so an investigation has been launched.
Id say your best bet is to ALWAYS make sure you have a good shot placement, because theres a WORLD of difference between shooting an animal, and having to put a knife in its heart to end its suffering.
Id prefer to never have to do that again in my life.
@@puregameplay7916 wow! Thanks for sharing that! You are a brave and kind soul! I read a few accounts of humans who were attacked by lions and lived, and they both said they felt no pain while it was happening because they went into shock or a dream state where they could see it but not feel it. Hopefully animals have that same grace before death!
awesome
I just wanna know how that goat tasted man! Looks like your buddy knew what was up with them goats.
It was awesome! No rank old billy goat taste at all.
@@clayhayeshunter how did it compare with deer? I know they eat a lot of the same things.
We didn’t know they were feral, if we did we would’ve had a feast!
And the goats? Where have you been?
birria chivo! I can totally recommend it.
👍👍
audio cuts out from 0:40 to 0:50
Hey! I have a question.
My recurve's draw weight is about 43 lbs at my 27" inch draw length. What arrow weight do you recommend for hunting deers with this setup under 20 yards?
What kind of arrows?
Carbon arrows. Does it make any difference though?
I’d stay around 500 grains or so. Sharp cut on contact two blade broadheads.
@@clayhayeshunter My current arrow is Gold tip traditional 500 spine 28" with 200 grains (50 grain insert+150 grain point). Total weight is 460 grain. My bow is very much near 'center shot' and I can't put any more weight in the front. Do you think it's gonna be enough? Or should I just go for aluminum arrows?
If adding more weight makes your arrows to weak, shorten your arrows or go up a spine to stiffen them up
Do goats have sinew
Yes
West coast of puerto rico we have a small island also call islande cabras or goats island ppl die there so many holes and caves.and on the south part of puerto rico many ferral monkeys too
