What can shame do to help the current situation and as a South African man I believe we should stand up and be fearless to protect the community as I believe that these guys who are doing these things also need help in many different ways be it employment or anything but believe you me when I tell you that these are also human beings who also have things like anxiety and if we as a society become fearful of them it works in their favours

Oh my gosh, this brings back so many traumatic memories 😭 .
It was the 16th of June 2020, just around 7pm.
Outside our gate, we were held at gunpoint. They ddnt want the car but rather our belongings, My boyfriend said we should surrender. I was so confused why put a gun on our heads. The trauma. I am so scared to even be alone in the toilet. One of the other guys even put his hands in my underwears. Saying he is looking for something nice,
I even had to relocate from Thembisa to Nelspruit. I never felt safe at that place since the incident

I was not hijacked myself but I witnessed my friend being hijacked at gunpoint Infront of the house where I stayed. It was my first time seeing a gun I didn't know whether to scream or run, I just stood against the wall frozen. Fortunately he wasn't harmed they dumped him somewhere and they found the car in some dump in Soweto.

I don't know if these story bring me awareness or trauma. My family was hi jacked right inside of our family home at the time. They came inside the house and asked for a car back in 2013. I was not even at home when it happened but the trauma it brought. To this day I have never been the same. And this year in the beginning of the year I witnessed a hi jacking. They hi jacked a car that I was next to. It all happened so fast, i saw it a few seconds before it all started happening. I saw this car walk towards the driver and by the time he was a fee steps away, his hand was already in the gun in his pants. By the time gun shots were fired... i had already lost feeling of my legs and everything. Till this day the trauma I live with. I am always fearful to a point that this week I was thinking that I need to go for counselling or ask for prayer in church. I realised that this thing can happen to anyone at anytime, no one is safe. And I wish both ladies strength and healing.

You are both beautiful and strong Queens. The SAPS has been disappointing people for years and it continues to do it daily.
Funny how we are told to report rape but we hardly receive help.
What Thabile is saying is completely true, as a rape survivor and having kept it to myself for years, I have been angry at God for nor protecting me, angry at myself and wishing I could change a lot about that day. However, since I've opened about it am getting better each and everyday.

I was also hijacked with my brother in Durban. Umbilo. They drove off with us in the backseat sandwiched between 2 of the guys. The 3rd one driving.
Yoh I have never been so scared in my life. I thought I was going to be raped and killed and there was nothing my brother could have done. They hit both of us. I only realised when we got help that my lip was split open.
They took everything from us and even asked my brother for his bank card pin codes.
Luckily for us they decided to dump us somewhere enroute to Emlazi and we had to walk to get help.
The car was found that same night in Umlazi with all doors open. They think they must have ran off on foot when they realized there was a helicopter now tracking the car.
I was so traumatized 😫. Attending therapy sessions at campus helped me a great deal.

The funny thing is I was nervous that whole afternoon for some reason and part of it was due to the fact that we had gone to DUT to drop off my sister before we headed my way.
I was more worried around her res as she had mentioned that a lot of hijackings happen around there.
What I didn't know was the vicinity of my res was no safer as well. That same night we were hijacked.

@@trevdoncabe9610 and thank you. It's been years since it happened. I'm not so triggered anymore when driving around at night.
It still there at the back of my mind but I can handle it. I'm so grateful to have survived that whole ordeal.
I still wonder if those guys are still alive with the kind of lifestyle they live.

@@kiri1517 I’m glad to hear you have found healing and you’re no longer easily triggered. I can imagine how the whole experience can be traumatic. Listening to the two guests, plus your experience cha South Africa is not safe and the sad part is that cops are involved. I’ll simply reduce driving at night ‘cause it seems like these monsters mostly go for the hunt when the sun goes down.
All the best and never stop being grateful to your God.

Desmond Tutu advocated against the death penalty i think that's why they won't bring it back. After the old man dies it should be put in effect. A rapist doesn't need rehabilitation. They should perish.

Wow. I had a similar incident. I will never forget. I was waiting for a friend outside her flat on the road, we going to dinner at Suncoast casino with friends. I was smoking, so my window was slightly open. Suddenly this guy puts a gun thru the window and asked me to open the door. I did that immediately, rather calm. Oprah's voice came into my head, an episode about hijacking I had seen. She never never let them take you to point B. But with a gun pointed at me I had no choice. I get out n go to passenger side, second guy gets in with me. Main guy drives. I am a hip hop fan, so CD carries on playing. They keep asking me questions, where u from, do u work etc. I answer all these questions calmly for some reason. Praying in my head, I am from a very religious background. Their first words were, as I had immediately reached for the ignition, don't "uzolimala". I then opened and was told to move to back seat with one guy, the other then drove my car to some town ship, from town. All that way I am praying I my head. They stopped at ATM and told me to get money. One guy comes with me. With the gun. Luckily all I had was 150 bucks. Month end. I took it out and gave it to them. Thought they would let me go, they kept driving. Out of town, now we on highway towards airport. Now I am worried and I start crying. Asking them to drop me off on the side. Eventually we reach a township, they tell me to get off, they drive away. They took my money, but gave me 10 bucks after I cried n said I must call my mom to fetch me. I then called tracker n then my friends, who came to fetch me in an hour. When they came, only then I started crying. Iyo I will never forget. Car was found next day by tracker. With scratches etc. But it was fine, I drove it for another 6 months n then sold it. I will never forget. Main thing that made me calm is the fact that they said relax sis we won't rape you cos we have girlfriends. I relaxed from there shem. Cos that was my fear. We get to umlazi, I get off, luckily by a place where I can call. Called tracker first, then my mom n then my friend whom I was with for dinner. Only then did I start crying shem. I could have died or been raped or disappeared. God had a diff plan. They dropped me off middle of no where. I found a phone, called my friends n then mom. Friends came to get me. We went straight back to casino cos I Def needed a serious drink lol. My mom came to get me, they found my car same night, tracker. But I sold it after a month. I was done. Ya neh, I always say that if I survived that? I can survive anything.

Please please get help. Trauma can literally make you sick. Anxiety, depression or other mental illness, chronic illnesses, autoimmune disease.. Find a therapist that you like, that is professional and you feel safe with. Now a days, if you're scared to leave your house, you can have sessions via zoom (internet).
Running away from the triggers, pain or memories is something you can't do. It won't go anywhere, I'm sorry, but that's how it is. Slowly going through it, talking to a therapist who lovingly guides you through it, research online, join a group of people who underwent similar experience, healing yourself, with love and understanding, is something you can do. I'm so sorry this happened to the both of you. All the best xx

Why didn't the husband call the tracking company after the 1st call because clearly there was something fishy. Also surely there was a tracking app he could have seen that strange route the car was driving, to confirm that there was something fishy.

Gino, even if you have to see 10 therapists before you find the one to work with you, do it, love. I know that in our culture we don't hold therapy in high regard. I understand you wanting to laugh it off. But sweetheart, it was a trauma which at some point in your life could force you to your knees.
I pray for all us women, the world over. Xxx
