    Excelent! Remember to consider pantograph height also. And also, the plywood will bend and form an arc. That’s not what you really want, you want a straight plywood I think? Maybe you can cut the part out and have a hinges at the connecting ends 🤔

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Год назад +1

      Hi Aaro and Eino,
      Agreed, pantographs must be added to the height as well. I am looking forward to making some layers. I will make it much easier to get a feel of it when you physically can see how the heights are. Unfortunately, this also means I may have to some drastic changes if it does not work. To me this will not be a disaster as my main objective with this layout is to experiment and learn.
      For the plywood: If it I bend it (not too much), then there is a smooth transition from horizontal to the incline. If you make it straight then you can end up with a very sudden transition from the horizontal to the incline. I did not think of hinges before - perhaps? I think both methods have pro's and con's. An additional consideration is to make the transition where the C-track connects - not in the middle of a track. The C-track are actually quite flexible at the connections. I intend to try with the bending first - we will see if that was a bad choice.
      Enjoy and thanks for the inputs ;-)

      @@ModelTrainFun one thing with the bending, or other ”non linear” ways is that accidental uncoupling does not happen so easily. I think you are running new locos mostly that have 4 powered axels? I’m sure they can climb very steep incline. This is easy to test though!
      C track connection has to be at the ”hinge spot” where the incline levels back to straight. At the start of the incline it does not matter so much. I have totally ”illegal” grades with C track 😅

    Reminds me of the first layout I tried to build. Much harder to fit a lot into a small space than build a large layout IMO. I had big problems with stopping distance when I wanted to automate. Derailment on curves/points that are on a slop. Clearances. When something went wrong getting access to be able to fix it. Had you thought about going with an aluminum structure? Less column of building material needed than wood. Allowing for more internal space. Also just a thought to construct modules that can be placed together and takes apart when not running tains. Rather than the fixed rectangle shape?

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Год назад

      Hi John,
      Thanks for the great input! I do agree that it is harder in a small space and that the challenges you mention will be something I have to see if I can get around.
      As for the material, wood is easier to work with and I did not find any aluminium structure I liked here in Abu Dhabi. I did find a garage heavy load shelf structure I was almost going to use, but it was very expensive.
      Module - I did think about it, but could not decide where to break it as it is so small. My current thought is to make it possible to disassemble in a vertical way between layers ad for the bottom layer lift the train station from the shadow station and the mountain from the structure... but not sure it will work. First time for me constructing something like this and I live in a hotel room, so this is an experiment ;-)
      Thanks for your input - I do agree I will hit the issues you mention. Enjoy ;-)

      @@ModelTrainFun wood is easier to work with. I was thinking of V Slot 2020 Aluminum for the basic frame. With my new layout I am 3D printing many of the parts. Both my own custom designs and found online like supports for a slop. This might be a good solution in places.

      @@johnhmccauley Hi John just looked up "V Slot 2020 Aluminum" - this looks pretty cool. I am guessing it is pretty easy to cut to length and assemble? Is it sturdy and can a simple frame still hold a lot of weight? Enjoy ;-)

    Hello. Congratulations on the project. I follow it with passion because I have the same measurements and I like the approach and the system. It is possible to describe the routes you use, the Marklin reference and the amount. Did you use R4 on the bottom one? Thank you and greetings from Barcelona. FXavier

      Hi Francesc, yes - this is an interesting project, but unfortunately I am not moving forward very fast. I have essentially not progressed in 9 months. Next video I make on the topic will be lessons learned with mistakes I have done. One advice to you is: if you are a beginner try to make something more simple an in one or two levels. Making levels is difficult and takes time to figure out. Enjoy ;-) Bo Jensen

      Hi Dominique, I am glad you liked the video. Are you asking for a layout application for iPad. I honestly do not know if one exists. However, if you have the CS2 there is an app for that one. For the CS3 you just access the CS3 using any web browser. Enjoy ;-)

    I really like youre channel but i have one problem i cant find anywhere what to do its that i want to use software for automation on my track but i dont know how to do that.

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Год назад +1

      Hi Linus,
      Unfortunately, I have not yet made any videos on this topic. The principle is the same as when you are using the CS3 for automation: it must be digital and you need some way to detect where the trains are (S88/contact track), a PC with automation software and a control station (e.g. Central Station 3/CS3). This video gives a short into to automation: ruclips.net/video/TwKk9C9WweE/видео.html
      Multiple softwares are available for train automation. I suggest that you download a demo version of the one(s) you find most interesting and try them out to decide which you like the most. The most popular that I know of are:
      - TrainController: www.freiwald.com/pages/traincontroller.htm
      - iTrain: www.berros.eu/en/itrain/
      - Win-Digipet: www.windigipet.de/info/en/
      - Rocrail: wiki.rocrail.net/doku.php
      The first two seem to be the most popular by non-German speakers and Rocrail is free, so also very popular. I do no know which one is the best. Try to download them and check out videos on RUclips. I have gone for TrainController, but this might not be the good choice for you.
      Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-)
