Such Soviet mosaics are my love 💙 It is sad that nowadays Soviet art is treated so badly as if it is something bad... That the government doesn't care about it at all, and it is obvious in my hometown, for example. I do not know why now we all try to get rid of the Soviet past, as it is still an important period of our history. And the art of that period is really beautiful, it is so unique.
You should really do something about this otherwise your great cultural artifacts will be lost in no time. I really want to see the paintings of the Soviet era when I come to russia. If you want we can both do something about this.
I enjoy watching videos of Russia and Soviet Union, my husband and I have watched a sold and Bankrupt channel also very much appreciative of Soviet Unions History Art Mosaics The amazing metro underground beautiful art. I may not like your president government but the people of Russia and the old Soviet Union have a lot to be proud off. Take care of your historic places . Thanks for sharing I will continue to watch your travels across your country especially the trains . Blessings for the Holiday Season for you and your family
What do you think the government should do? Now these buildings with mosaics are private property. Do you want the government to nationalize it in order to have the right to reconstruct and protect it?
@@ДедМазай-ц6щ I actually never thought of this fact, you are right... I think they should somehow force the owners of the buildings give the acess to the mosaics.
That happens here in the USA, too. There are certain kinds of architecture, such as Brutalist, which people find ugly, and many monuments to the confederacy or to subjugation of Native Americans, or Blacks which people find offensive that are being taken down now. But many parts of American cities are boring and ugly and need all the art and interesting architecture that they can get.
Russia offers some outstanding and unique buildings that have stood the test of time, along with it's fascinating history. @@chadsimmons6347 it's not that simple. Huge companies just crush or buy their competitors today and Eastern Europe + Russia is geographically in the periphery in the global economy and all their companies are only 1-3 decades old. Even if Russia ran something objectively better than idk McDonald's they would never replace them. It's even possible the US and EU would engage in protectionism like they do against Xiaomi, Huawei and other big Chinese corporations.

I find your videos very interesting and even a bit nostalgic, especially when you visit the less glamorous locations. I worked in Russia in 2004 and 2005, in 3 of the closed "atomic cities"- Novouralsk, Seversk, and Zelenogorsk (the one close to Krasnoyarsk). We would fly from Moscow to Yekaterinburg, Tomsk, or Krasnoyarsk, respectively and then drive to our destinations passing through many small cities and villages along the way. Our handlers also took us on many excursions on weekends. Russia is a huge, interesting, and largely unknown place as far as Americans are concerned and your videos are a valuable source of information for us. Thank you so much for producing them. That was a great video of such a great historical town. Here in Denver, a building that dates to 1920 is considered ancient. It's nice to see such truly ancient buildings and to hear the history. Thanks.
Haha We still have a few that date from the 1800s, like the Molly Brown house and Richthofen Castle. Did you see her Vladivostok video? Part of that town looks a lot like Capitol Hill to me.
Exactly, a lot of "ancient" towns to us here in the USA are pretty much mostly mining towns if you aren't counting the first settlements (Jamestown, Williamsburg, etc), even then, very few original buildings by comparison have survived. There are other older cities like New Orleans (early 1700s) and Savannah (1730s), but nothing that really retains the kind of architecture you'd see in Europe.
@@provenancemachining Well, unless you count the ancestral Pueblo cities like Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, but those are deserted cities, so they aren't the same, and of course, the architecture is different, but they date from the same time period as the Golden Gate she showed us in this video

@@SamsRussianAdventures Pretty much every city she has shown looks like a dump compared to american cities. Even moscow was kind of run down. I can only imagine how many rubles your corrupt leaders are stealing from the people that live in your country.
It couldn't be the capital of Russia as there was no such country till the 17th century. Vladimir was in fact a capital of Vladimir-Suzdal principality, which was a part of Rus.
I like that you show the mediaeval history AND the recent history of the town too. The gate and cathedral are fascinating, but it's important to remember that many people actually live in the kruschovkas
but do not demolish them, they have not yet been decommissioned and the next 30 years may exist. And new buildings are being built everywhere and quite quickly
As someone who has travelled through Russia since 1992, I really like the variety of scenes you show in your films about Russia and its cities - like this one from Vladimir. All towns tell their own stories, and you bring them to life by showing us how they look today. That is much appreciated. My interest was people’s stories, their personal experiences, especially during the Great Patriotic War and the time that followed. Until now, I have used the material to write two novels, in which the scene is set at locations in Russia from Moscow to Vladivostok. Such a vast country, such a fantastic landscape, so many stories still to be told.
As much as I like the rustic exterior of the Golden Gate (gives me “Andrei Rublev” vibes), it really deserves better preservation :/ The footage of the city miniature with the narration is very creative, loved it!
With the POSSIBLE exception of his 12/21/21 video, this guy has lots of GREAT Russia content. If ya'll like Natasha's videos, you'll definitely like at least half of his, they cover a little more than Natasha's and are a bit longer, certainly worth checking out if you're into videos about Russia. No, I don't work for him before anyone asks. 😅
Sam has an alternative video that shows Vladimir in a far more flattering light. It is called "Yeah Russia and the misleading portrayal of a Russian town". I think it's fair to check it out. Vladimir comes across as far more modern than portrayed here, almost astonishingly so. I like Natasha's videos a lot, but it's possible that in her brief visit she missed important parts of the city's story that a tourist could easily miss. It happens all the time and I don't believe it is intentional. I could imagine someone getting a bad impression of San Francisco for example if they experienced the drug addicts in the Tenderloin, the rundown shops there, and the urinating homeless in BART stations, compared to the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, and many other positive aspects of the city. I am an American and have no stake in anything here.
The cathedral is just stunning! It seems that no matter how run down the city or town is in Russia, the cathedrals and big orthodox churches are really looked after and kept in great condition.
Yes! Lots of money is pumped into the restoration of churches. Though Vladimir is not so run down, Natasha just highlighted the run down areas of the city.
@@SamsRussianAdventures Ah yes, when I rewatched the video I thought "run down" was maybe not the right phrase. I was perhaps thinking of the drabness or blandness of the old soviet architecture in some residential areas. I guess in other areas everything can look a bit grey on rainy days.
@@donaldperson948 This is a common assumption, and I do not know how it is everywhere, but from the Russians Ukrainians and other Slavic people I have known, they say that often times the Orthodox community takes great pride in their local church. There is a story I was told where the local congregation wanted to have a beautiful church but they were a very poor town. Since they did not have much money many people donated their own time over a number of years to build and decorate the church. When it was finished it stood out in the small town since it was the nicest building in the area. But then they would sometimes hear visitors say careless and cynical things such as this and were understandably hurt by it. It was their church, built by their hands, a symbol of their community that they were proud of.
@@mrmadmaxalot Thanks for your insight. It is heart warming to see people are prepared to give what little they have to show off these beautiful churches at their best. It benefits everyone whether you are a church goer or not..
Nice - If you try walking the dark alleys in a large American city, you would have a big chance of getting mugged or worse. Glad those folks living there are able to do so without fear. - Looks like a great city.

Russia was never called Kyevian Rus. It was period of history, not more. This period named as Kyevian Rus was presented russian historics for time when capital of the rusland located in Kiev. This is not name of country this is a historical period that was created in modern time as name of historical period but not for country. Kyevian Rus never existed. @@SamsRussianAdventures yes and it was cut together in an even more Interesting thoughtful way. She keep stepping up Her game. But all the 'competing' channels from the young Russian ladies are generally getting better. An exception maybe arguably Mr Bald... who I feel has gone off the boil. I'm sure I've read many comments praising Natasha for he nice soothing voice Narration. But I very distinctly noticed a change in her diction or pronunciation and unfortunately found it more difficult to follow. Maybe there were more anglicised historical terms, even some transliteration from the russian. Either that or I'm just exhausted and my brains slowed down.
@@johnrhodes3350 I didn't notice the change in her voice but her editing was great and she must of put a lot of work into this video. I think maybe people are just getting tired of the Bald scenario. he's getting predictable.
@@johnrhodes3350 She has e beautiful timbre and it has its fluctuations - depending on her mood variations. One could find some different nuances through her vlogs. For instance the Moscow video (ruclips.net/video/q7k5kUHNLAs/видео.html) - considering a huge, colourful, historical and architecturally rich city - there she has a certain tensity and firmness in the narrative's vocal imprint, based on contextual aspects... But that's a common effect of emotional and environment influenced impression to the speech outcome. It's more or less tuned by the general impressions, the emotional background, the interaction with people and so on. Such an emotionally powered intensity in her voice - I'd say - is also vivid in the second Vladivostok video (ruclips.net/video/pXAS-xv-aKwa/видео.htmlnd) on the contrary to the first one (definitely one of my personally favourite ones - though she herself mentions somewhere, that she doesn't like it... (I think because of some particular negative impressions, she alludes a couple of times)ruclips.net/video/RgobeaklsVg/видео.html) ... where she sounds more traquillised as in (again one of my other favourite ones) the fishing vlog ( ruclips.net/video/EonfMc9hoqQ/видео.html) or in now the latest/this one. In any way and aspect the narration voice is definitely an important hook to the content as well as the image appearance. In both categories, I'd say, she's a beautiful event on her own within the whole sono-visual presentation. Apart from that, she successfully develops the informative aspects and functions of her channel as well as the aesthetic ones - since it all considers landscapes, views, different close-ups, places and generally an interesting exploration - aesthetics play a significant role and I reckon, that she has definitely a passion for it... That I believe is a very strong motivational fuel for her as a creator, as well as for me and definitely a huge amount of the viewers....
Since we're talking about Natasha, I'd like to say that in the early part of this video, she looked more like Anna Gunn (from Breaking Bad, etc.) than usual. It must have been the lighting!

I once drove from Moscow to Yekaterinburg. And I was driving thru Vladimir. The weather was just a s bad. And honestly it didn't impress me. Maybe I'll visit it during summer sometime.
Sorry about the bad weather 😞. I assume Suzdal'd be up next? Both Vladimir & Suzdal are part of the "Golden ring" of historical cities in Central Russia. Also 2 of 3 Russian epic heroes "bogatyri" originate in Vladimir: Ilya Murometz (of Murom) comes from the city of Murom (obviously) which is in Vladimirskaya oblast (Vladimir admin. district) and Dobrynya Nikitich is based on a real relative of one of Vladimir's princes. Apart from that Vladimir houses a notoriously famous prison - Vladimirskij central, where political prisoners as well as most notorious gang members. There is even a blatnaya song of the same name 😅. Additionally since 18th century there was a transfer facility - prisoners sentenced to go to Siberia were sorted here and sent out in groups (they mostly walked there in chains, that's why the highway to Vladimir has a bad rep, since many died on their way. In Soviet times they even renamed part of the highway that began in Moscow into "The highway of Enthusiasts" - extremely ironic 🤦🏻♀️)
This town reminded me of so many towns in Poland including my home town. I'm sure I would feel right at home in Vladimir if I ever got there. Cheers from Canada.

When you get tired of your geographic tour could you comment on Russian History ? Ivan the terrible , Peter the Great etc
As much as I like the rustic exterior of the Golden Gate (gives me “Andrei Rublev” vibes), it really deserves better preservation :/ The footage of the city miniature with the narration is very creative, loved it!
It’s pretty well maintained. Being a UNESCO heritage site it won’t be allowed to be altered.

@@Daveaaaaa I think that this video has a very clever lean towards that angle. All leading up to the finale.

She has e beautiful timbre and it has its fluctuations - depending on her mood variations.

Sam you're not pretty like her lol
@Sam - maybe you should buy some ads on Natasha's channel - she showed how Vladimir is - like most towns that were built up during the Soviet times - a bunch of boring five-story bland apartment buildings.
Russia would be so much nicer if they just double the maintenance budget of everything.
yeah dude its sad that the gov. only improves Moscow... and maybe SPB too
@@hereandthere4751 well, Moscow and St. Pete earn the money they spend on improvements. Its just that their mayors decide to bet on tourism and a more comfortable environment is a big difference.
Luckily, other cities began to realise that it makes thr difference and launched their own restoration programs (Rybinsk and Tula are good examples)
@@SovietMoviesExplained oh ok then thanks for the info) I just watched NFKRZ's latest video thus my comment was made haha.

I think Vladimir is a nice town; i would like to visit it one day. Thanks for the video. Your country is actually beautiful but few of us have visited it. Cheers from Sydney
Had you heard of Vladimir before this video?
Many years ago I took Russian history but I confess little of that is in my memory. That said, we know people who have lived and was schooled in Russia. I think it is often a misunderstood country that should be explored more by travellers
Natasha, you always manage to find beauty in the midst of poverty and decay, such as the lovely flower at 6:30. But, isn't walking at 10 pm "through the dark alleys of the fading city" (14:07) rather dangerous? In an American city of 350 thousand, it would be considered absolutely crazy for a young lady such as yourself to do this, especially if you are alone. Maybe Russian cities are safer, but please, be careful, we appreciate your videos and we do not want to lose you!
There are a lot of videos on the Kings and Generals channel about Kievan Rus fighting each other, the Vikings and the Mongol invasions. This made this video more interesting for me personally.Nice to see it nowadays.Beautiful cathedral.
Yes! I knew what she was talking about because of those very videos!
It has taken a while a popular youtuber has visited our town. I have actually been making content about this area for 4 years (I'm from England) but it has been a genuine battle to get anybody interested. Natasha's video is outstanding, as a matter of fact, I believe this is her best video yet. However please don't think that Vladimir is so gloomy. It was drizzling and dark in the video as well as she did not have time to film any kind of contemporary neighbourhoods. Great content! Thank you for giving a glimpse into parts of Russia that are often overlooked. As an American this is really eye-opening for me. Thank you!

It inspired me that this monument could survive during the revolution period and now we know how about its value of the past. For me Russia is a huge country with enormous things in history. I love Russia territoire.
Have you thought about visiting Vladimir? The golden gate is not a religious symbol.
This is a really great video. Very enjoyable. And the fact that you scooped Bald and Bankrupt on a Soviet mosaic is outstanding journalism. :D
@P F - You are right. B & B would have traveled from Vladivostok to Vladimir just to show us that mosaic! And I probably would have watched the whole thing just to see it!
ive been to vladimir, its a very gorgeous quaint town with excellent tourist infrastructure. it was so nice how you could just walk to everything so easily and it was all like "in a line" from the train station. also the train station area was very nice. overall, very charming city
I’m glad you liked Vladimir. When did you visit?
@@SamsRussianAdventures this past summer
I don't know another woman with such distinct high cheekbones, a natural born photo model.
The more she shows me of Russia, the more I want to visit. But, still, it feels like a poor, struggling country full of lovely people.
This video may portray Vladimir as poor but only because they ancient and poor are the most entertaining and this really does not paint a true picture of the town.
@@GARRY3754 of course, but then the same can be said for any country and people. I think that Natasha is an excellent film maker and the plan of this video was excellent, from the model of the town and the historical facts to the poor problems of living in Russia and leading to the finale! She is very clever and a great film maker!
Is there some story behind the mosaic? Is it about Russian lore or mythology or something?
Vladimir and with that historical buildings look like a living museum.
Another great video. 👍

Your videos are always fascinating and unique ... I usually 'binge-watch' them, they are so interesting. I must say, as a pro-filmmaker, not the least of your presentations is the quality of your voice - your narration - is so naturally soothing you could market it for V/O's (voice overs). Always a pleasure, Natasha ... you're the best.
I love this walk in the rain. Thanks for the tour!
🇺🇸 Hi Natasha! I live in Cleveland, Ohio U.S.A. and we had the same situation with trees during the widening of one of our streets ( Clark ave.) In the Tremont area of the Southside of our city. People had planted trees years ago and they we're being removed for the widening of the street. The Tremont area is a very ethnic part of my city where my parents grew up including a strong Russian heritage with a big beautiful Russian Orthodox church, St. Theodosius on Starkweather Ave. that can be seen for miles in our city. I love your videos and find them very informative and look forward to seeing many more. 👍 🇺🇸

I just finished reading the book ‘Russka’ by Edward Rutherfurd, it mentions this history when Russia was Kievan Rus and Vladimir was the capital. I recommend this amazing work of historical fiction for anyone interested in Russian history from 180 to 1990s!
*"Kievan Rus" there was no such state, it was just Russia with capitals in Ladoga, Novgorod, Kyiv, Vladimir, Tver, and Moscow!*
You are so smart, wise and charm, i wish you happiness and the best
Не было никогда государства Киевская Русь, это название было придумано историками в середине 19 века как обозначение периода. Была просто Русь, фактически не государство в современном смысле, а династический союз 13 княжеств
Yes I would like to visit Vladimir, I´m from city called Ústí nad Labem in Czech republic and we have here a hotel from comunist era called "Vladimir" (дружба городов)...
Во Владимире есть улица, названная в честь вашего города - Усти-на-Лабе. При СССР были города-побратимы.
good videos ,,,this is how people learn about Russia thank you
Nice trip through Vladimir. A video you might want to do in the future is to do a comparison between Krushavska flats and the Brezhnevski flat.
And as Christmas/New Years approaches to talk about the traditional holiday film ирония судьбы или с лёгким паром (Irony of Fate or Enjoy Your Bath). This film is a wonderful love story and goes a long way to explain Soviet-style housing being similar in almost all large cities.
Lovely videos! As a tourism student myself, I would love to see you attending local events and some form of parties, if it's possible! Your channel awakened my interest towards other Russian cities than St.Petersburg and Moscow :) Love from Finland!

Your camera work in this one is wonderful. Lots of interesting shots
I love the wooden houses in Russia, although for locals they are probably a symbol of poverty. It's something we don't have here in central Europe.
If the wooden house is properly maintained and cared for, they are much warmer and healthier in our climate.
But, yes, it deteriorates quicker, if the owner doesn't have money 😔
As time goes on Yeah Russia feels more like proper journalism and less like a RUclipsr's random travelogue. A well-balanced look at a place I've only read about and mentions if not actually covers problems faced by the people living within it.
"Vladimir" means "posses the world."
Vladimir Putin be like: Oh yeah I know I am destined to
... *possess
Actually means Ruler of Peace, or Famous Ruler.

Woman you have no fear, even I as a man would not dare to go to a dark alley at night. Still, I strongly advise not to do it because what if they were selling drugs there and someone comes up with a camera? They'd absolutely kill that person. Still, Russia seems to be pretty safe for you to be able to walk alone and visit all those places by yourself.
...perhaps this is real freedom?
Really enjoyed this video, it makes me feel like I'm right there in Vladimir now as well. I haven't been able to travel out of my country for leisure since the pandemic, so this was as good as it gets. You mentioned that Vladimir made you sad even before watching the video from the local guy. What was it that made you sad?
Poor wooden barracks in the city centre, outskirts with apartment blocks, old buses, no embankment, people’s salary. Such a great and important city could be more developed.
@@NatashasAdventures these are the things that you learned from watching the video from the local guy. Did you not see that there are new buildings everywhere? Soviet era houses are everywhere and in every town but a drive around Vladimir would show you how many new buildings have also been built. You saw yourself that the railway runs parallel to the river. It seems that you made up your mind about the town from watching the local guys video which made me sad. The town is a work in progress.
Thank you for the tour and comments. Sincerely hope that the financial resources to restore the historical gems of this city and other eventually are available.
the financial resources are not for the historical gems... For war or corruption only...
Yes, Vladimir’s historic heritage is well maintained and the city is not as poor as implied in this video. It’s the same as showing a castle in England and then a nearby council estate.
