Your travels across Russia especially in the far east have become a - Tour de force - videos explaining the culture, landscape, and peoples of the area. Most educational and very entertaining. "Dersu Uzala" is also the title of a 1975 film based on Arseniev's book, Soviet-produced and directed by Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. Set in the forests of Eastern Siberia at the turn of the century, it is a portrait of the friendship that grows between an aging hunter and a Russian surveyor. A romantic hymn to nature and the human spirit.

Natasha, I have a Siberian Tiger story for you: When I was living in Primorsky Krai, several of us men would meet once a week for a sauna. Each week one of us was supposed to bring the snacks. One week a fellow brought a big bowl of what I thought was beef stroganoff. It was VERY tasty. After dinner we found out that our host was a government game warden, and that day he had caught poachers who had just killed a tiger. Yes, he had served us stroganoff made with the Siberian Tiger meat!

In my opinion, your videos from the far east stick out compared to the other ones. Simply because you are be able to tell stories based on experience. That's also the reason why a lot of people decided to subscribe, to hear stories from a country that is rather mysterious for a lot of us. Did you ever notice that the video that made your channel populair is the one showing an extreme stereotype about Russia. Living in cold depressive Siberia. That picture made the video appealing, and after clicking most found out what it was actually about.
Anyways, I think we all had this city nearby that seemed a lot bigger in our younger years, in fact everything seems bigger in your younger years. Atleast I think it does? Time will tell. Russia will never feel less big though😂 based on what I know about it.

Thank you for showing us another pretty town in Russia. I found the Stone Turtle and Emerald Valley areas very interesting. These are places I would like to visit. I was sorry to hear that some of those young men were arrested for making a protest video that criticized a politician. People here in America, including me, criticize politicians all the time. For the most part it doesn't really do much good, because the politician remains in office and no reforms are made. (We think that most of them are on the side of the corporations and not the people. Over half the members of Congress are millionaires.) It seems that some of the Russian politicians are paranoid. Politicians here expect criticism. Even though there are trashy areas in Ussuriysk, such areas are common in American towns and cities. One last thought. Because I'm a parent and a grandparent, I worry about you sometimes. You take chances, and people like me don't want any harm to come to you. So be careful, because we want to see you make many more interesting videos!

You are of course right about the different situations in Russia and the USA. However, there have been some very undemocratic developments in the USA too. Who can forget the full power of the state coming down on those protesters in Lafayette Square just so a certain person could pose with a Bible? Michael Cohen, the ex-attorney of that certain person, was released early from prison, but when he published a book criticizing that person, he was rearrested and thrown back in prison for "violating his probation." A Russian-like political climate can also be easily created here in the USA if we aren't careful.

Natasha, once again you have produced a great video on life in Russia as YOU see it. I love your style of presentation. We get the good, the bad and the ugly from your own unique perspective. Your camera work has improved immensely. The slow "pans" are great. They give the viewers time to absorb the content. I love your curiosity like when you explore areas like @12:30. NOBODY on RUclips does things like that. Keep doing those type of vignettes. And the clip about the "chair" @13:30 was just hilarious!! Your "dry" sense of humor and sarcastic wit are super. I love the piece about the guy who "looks like Putin, but he actually helps people". Loved that. But you be careful Natasha. We would hate to see you go to prison for your own version of satire. Prison is not a place for a young lady as beautiful as you. Please keep up your great work making these videos about life in the "Real Russia". 👍👍💖💖💖💖💖🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Nalivkin and Barracuda are spot on! Following these guys for a year now. And btw that character is not typical only for Russia. We had a similar id*ot for prime minister in Bulgaria for the last 12 years. It is just a pity that the Nalivkin-show would be hard for English speakers to understand.

A very beautiful city, all paces have faults and issues, take the good with the bad.

You're becoming better and better with your english, and as a presenter I feel you have a future, either as a historian or documentary narrator. Wouldn't it be fun if BBC offered you a job to travel around the world making programs like this ;)

And, you keep such a straight face while talking, tongue in cheek, about Ussurihsk services placing a well designed comfortable chair and even vegetation for citizens to enjoy strolling while through the city. This episode was packed with info of past and present. Your use of irony, cynicism and humor is masterful and enlightening.

As for voting I try to pick who will do the best for that part of the government's area, local provincial country. @13:00 the rose colored glasses comment is a very good, reference to literary trend of the 1850's in England &/or the United States. "Seeing the world through rose-colored glasses" means you are optimistic. In this area, even though someone was living in a poor, trash-covered, impoverished part of Ussuriysk, Russia.... someone chose to say, "Be optimistic! Have faith!"

There was an award-winning movie about Arseniyev’s adventures in Russian Far East, by a famous zJapanese director: “Dersu Uzala”. A couple native groups in your region, the Nansai, Nivekh for example, are similar to the Ainu, natives of Sakhalin, Kurile Islands and Japan. There were even several Japanese Buddhist monks that established temples.

I liked your video, but before rushing to judgement, on the politicians, I think that the region has many problems that other places may not face. The solution of the air freshener, reminds me of London in the mid nineteenth century, The parliament was being disrupted with sewerage smells and they end up with washing the parliamentary curtains in lime (stone) to reduce the smells......Eventually the real solution was tackled and, they built a sewerage system at a huge cost. Waterborne diseases killed many people before they spent the money however. Having very cold weather probably makes the solutions much more expensive. The tortoise is widespread in the Chinese or Chinese influenced world, I saw these where temple schools produced civil servants, the tortoise there was associated with wisdom.

@@SovietMoviesExplained You are always welcome back in Singapore :) Glad to know you enjoyed our architecture and city landscape but despite our high standard of living, in such an extremely densely populated area it does get quite uncomfortable (the feeling that our country is overpopulated). Many Singaporeans do enjoy taking time off to travel in order to get away from the hectic lifestyle including myself, I really enjoy nature. I also visited Vladivostok once in the winter of 2017 when they first started e-visa for Singaporeans travelling in the Far East, a very interesting experience, beautiful scenery on Russky Island with the frozen seaside, and I booked a Russian banya sauna by the beach as well, but it was definitely too cold and windy. I'm really interested in Russian culture and history, would love to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg and also other cities like Veliky Novgorod, Vladimir, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Yakutsk etc. hopefully when the pandemic dies down. Russian architecture is also outstandingly beautiful and grandeur in my opinion (the monasteries, churches, palaces, gates of the old city etc.)
